I bought the Kaweco sport brass on your recommendation and I must've gotten lucky as well. I love it. Writes well, posts well, love the weight. I'm a newbie to fountain pens so not overly discerning but I am really enjoying it. I also have you to thank (blame) for introducing me to The Superior Labor with your pen roll. My Jibun is now housed in a fab cover and I own a gorgeous leather wallet/pen case and a couple of accessories. Your videos are good for my heart and bad for my credit card! Keep 'em coming!

Your take on nature reminds me of Thoreau's experiences in his book "On Walden Pond." When I was young I used to have similar experiences; I spent a lot of time in the woods. As to your comments on Kaweco; I have both plastic and aluminum "sport" models, and I have had excellent luck with the nibs. I also have a Kaweco Dia2 "retro" design. I replaced the steel nib with a gold one & found that they both write about the same. If you can call keeping a diary "journaling" I do that; I began in 1995. Once in awhile I go back a few years and read some on the entries. It's always amazing to see how much one quickly forgets.
Currently I'm working on my Pappy's letters to Mom during his time in the army, which was from 1939 until the mid-50s.He fought in WWII and later, Korea as a combat engineer. He wrote over 650 letters, which Mom saved. I found them after he died in 2012, and have finally got them all transcribed. I found a county newspaper archive in Utah that has articles that mention not only him, but buddies that he mentions in his letters, and am trying to integrate the articles into his letters. It consumes an immense amount of time, but I have an insight into my parents that few people can claim. Eventually I'll get around to--if I live long enough--transcribing my letters from my Marine Corps days, which Mom also saved.

I had that very 'mental health' place when I lived in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. It was on the C&O Canal, a place called the 'Billy Goat Trail' It was a 3 Km/2 M hike along the Potomac River which brought me peace and solace, I tried to do this hike, north and south, at least weekly, twice weekly in the warm months. It gave me time to work out the issues of the day, clear my head, or just enjoy nature. I miss that special place, I saw that look in your eyes and that smile on your face and I know what that means! I truly do!

Getting out into nature is always such a positive thing for mental health and self and soul. I’ve always had good luck with fine Kaweco sports. It’s the bold ones that I’ve found tend to have more hard starts and inconsistencies. Thanks for sharing another moment of bliss with all of us.

It's great to see you so joyous. I love the wild, and spent most of my youth away from towns and cities. I'm sure than hill was there forty-eight years ago, but I climbed a hundred hills, or more, and don't remember that one. There were fewer people to bother you back then, and walking away from the city could mean getting into trouble, if you didn't know what you were doing.
Of all the states I've spent a good deal of time in, Arizona and New Mexico are my favorites. There's something almost spiritual about the desert, especially at night, far away from cities. It's like you can feel, and even hear, ancient people still moving and talking in the darkness, just beyond sight, and right at the limit of sound.
Anyway, I do prefer soft gold nibs, but when I'm just writing in a journal, or writing fiction, gold of steel really doesn't matter. There are a lot of gold nibs that are just as hard as any steel nib, and a fair number of soft gold nibs, and flex gold nibs, that simply aren't very good. And there are steel nibs as smooth as it's possible to get, even if they don't flex.
    .

To me, if it has helped you that much and has soothed your soul to that extent it is longer a "hill". It becomes a Spirit Mound with all of the connotations and meanings. I'm so glad you have found your piece of heaven.

What a view! And what a beautiful mental health hill! I live by the tail end of Chief Sealth trail in Seattle, a multipurpose city trail popular for bike rides and walks. Not far from our house is a horse farm and they keep their goats, sheep and baby cows on leash by the side of the road. I gave the animals names and loved visiting them during lunch while working from home, especially if I’m having a hard day. It brings so much joy to see them and makes it a little easier to carry on with the days.

I loved this! It was just ALL of the topics! 😄 I’m so glad you finally got to climb your hill again. I hope it stays open. 🙏🏻 I got my green Kaweco Sport last week and the ink came in a could of days ago. It turns out the BB nib was baby’s bottomed and I don’t have the proper filing sand papers to correct it. But I DO have a manicure set with 2 grits of filers and 2 super fine buffers. After watching a few more videos on techniques on nib correction, I went at it. About 15 minutes later, my pen WORKED!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 It was a weird victory moment for me. Anyway, I hope you are well. Have a great day. Much love! 💙💙💙

You make me miss living in Tucson. I loved driving through the mountains from Star Valley to Tucson everyday to work. I guess I didn’t appreciate the beauty of the desert. The heat just ruins it for me though. We lived there for 2 years and I at least have the memories. Thank you for sharing.

It has that way about it. It’s enchanting and beautiful, allows you to stay, but makes it hard. The summers are painful, and tiring. But it sure is beautiful. That must have been a big commute, although beautiful over there.

I love your channel. You offer such great content in regards to fountain pens and ink. I journal in a Hobonichi Cousin. It’s actually a memory keeping type journal and I stick a lot in it. You inspired me to the Leuchtturm pocket and I am using it to write, write, WRITE! Lol! However, when looking for a Chic Sparrow cover, I completely ordered wrong😢 On Leuchtturm’s site, they call this pocket size an A6. It’s listed as a “pocket” (A6). So, I ordered an A6 Chic Sparrow. It’s way too big. I thought the pocket size would be too close a fit, but I see that is not the case. Live and learn.

Thank you for sharing this. I've had terrible experiences with Kawecos, but my 9 yo daughter was happy to use them. Every TWSBI Eco I have is awesome. I have a mental health pond. it is beautiful there, with bullfrogs, ducks, and a great blue heron who you can see at dawn and dusk. There are ginormous lilac trees, willows, and maples surrounding it. It's in an area that has been inaccessible to the public due to the pandemic for months, and I miss it terribly. It's supposed to re-open at the end of the month.

I've had almost 100% great luck with Kaweco and nibs: 2 Sports and 2 Lilliputs wrote amazingly right out of the box. I got a replacement double broad nib which writes so juicy but is prone to requiring a "sweet spot". Your videos are inspiring me to look at a metal sport this time. I love the rugged durability and patina. My only hesitancy is not being able to eye-dropper a metal pen, I really enjoyed that with my
    plastic Sports.

Melanie Boetel that’s so great! They’re such a fun pen, it’s wonderful to hear others with good experiences. The brass has been so wonderful. I really do appreciate the toss in a bag and go anywhere ability. It is a bummer one can’t eye dropper it - but, the brass is so nice!!!

There aren't really hills within a short drive, but I happen to live almost right next to the American River Trail. I've been going there to clear my head lately. It runs along 35 miles of river, so I can go to a different entrance every day if I want. And just half a mile from my apartment there's a quiet spot just off the trail, overlooking the river, where there's just enough space to set up a music stand and play. That's rapidly turning into my mental health place.

I wanted a BB nib so badly, but was put off the Kaweco BB specifically, due to near universal condemnation amongst reviewers. Then I read one glowingly positive comment and decided to risk $14 on a replacement Kaweco BB nib (to fit into my Karas). It's great. So I bought a Frosted Sport (BB). The nib is great. Not crazy about the flimsy plastic pen body, though. So there's another data point for anyone who might be interested. Good luck, "anybody", deciding what to do.

    • @adventuredenali
      @adventuredenali  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ichiro Fakename great! Those nibs don’t have a particular outstanding reputation! But when you get a good one, it’s great!!

    • @humanfirst11

I could never like the plastic sport, the plastic feels cheap and lightweight, the nib (M) is just ok, I would probably like either the Kaweco Special or the Supra, but both of these are really expensive and there are better pens out there at this price range. I have ordered a Perkeo in Jungle Green (F), hoping that that will be a better writer.

You are a rare find, indeed. So enjoyable to watch. I have 3 TWSBI ECOs - I like them better than the 580 ALR. My next pen, as I wait for the day I buy a Pelikan M400, just might be that little Kaweco that you like so much. It may be hard to find a Mental Health hill here in NYC, but I could use one.

Many do not realize that the mask is more for you to not spread your breath on others and if you know you are not sick you are reassuring others that you are fine most of the time! Keep videoing and stay safe & happy. Remember the best mental health hill is laughter!!!! For me? I love laughing but I'm enjoying my kayaking better right now in my life. Best wishes!!!

I have stayed away from the Kaweco for that very reason, and they are a bit expensive to bother taking the risk, I would rather buy a Lamy instead. They are cheaper and I really enjoy them.
