Your Midori 5-year Diary is awesome! I did a Happiness Project "One Sentence Journal" for 5 years 2012 - 2016 and it is such a treasure. I was very consistent with it. When I look at it now it brings me instantly back to the day(s) .... an almost time traveling experience which is priceless because of all the entries and experiences with loved ones including my cat Meena .... no longer here in physical form and my Dad and my Mother-in-law. The experience is so hard to convey but these type journals are extremely valuable to me and I recommend them highly.... I look in mine often just to be transported for little glimpses of memory which the journal entries actually bring more than you'd think one sentence would be capable of storing!!!!💜 The ability to see and compare the same day each year is also so much fun! I'm wishing you the very best with your move!!!!! It has been 30 years since I last moved lol but I still remember it!!!
Moving is difficult. But I love it. I love the new beginnings. I love the opportunity to edit my life and my possessions. I don't love the temporary feeling. I moved during grad school one year and spent almost a whole summer in a great house, living out of boxes because I was so rarely in my house. I've been in my current house for 10 years, and in this town for 16 years. Both set records for my life, including childhood. Amazing to realize I've lived in this house and this town longer than I've lived anywhere in my entire life! I get ready to move from time to time, but I don't seem to actually move.
Having moved about 20 times in the last 20 years, I am palpitating just thinking about anyone relocating houses. Good luck with yours and thank you for sharing how these systems have worked for you! ---- PS: Until Hobonichi, I threw away every planner I have at the end of each year since the 1990s 😳
Oh my goodness! That’s so much moving. I hope you get to settle in a little longer (assuming that’s what you want). Do you regret tossing them out? Or are you glad you did?
This August marked one year of daily journaling for me, and I want to keep the habit for the rest of my life! Journaling makes days feel more tangible for me, otherwise I feel like time just slips through my fingers and I don't know if it's been a week, a month, half a year... The magic of journaling is real!
Moving is said to be one of the most stressful things so it's not surprising that you can't wait for it to be finished. It's an exciting time for you though I'm sure! I wish you all the best in your new house together, may it be filled with all the happy vibes and good memories. 💗
The 5-year journal is incredible. I asked for one for Christmas last year and got one, and I’m looking forward to reviewing personal growth especially since the turmoil of the last 18 months. I feel you on the skipping days - I find myself going back and filling in missed days when things get really busy, especially when traveling.
Good luck with your move. I’m in the 5th year of my first 5 year diary and I have loved doing it. Will definitely start another one. So much fun to go thru and read back what life has happened.
I find moving so stressful and though I keep going, my innver voice just keeps pleading to staaahhhp. It is a good moment to get rid of stuff that's really not needed anymore, you're right. Love the 5-year-journal and have been thinking of getting one for a while now, cause I just can't make myself stick to a full-on everyday journaling like you do. I admire you for it, tho. ; ). Hope you'll get everything done quickly, so you can settle in!
Can’t tell if you Midori 5 year is a B6 or A5. I looked them up online and they had different sizes. Yours seems to fit comfortably in the hand. Good luck with the move. Moving is my #1 stressful thing. 😬
I know all too well about “the purge.” I gave away boxes of books that I should have searched through because some that I still wanted slipped through the cracks. I repurchased some of them and have more to go. I’m stuck in the Hobonichi Techo A6. It’s easier to carry but I do like the bigger A5. This was an enjoyable video, as usual. You really know how to present.
So awesome! I've been really obsessed at looking at journaling vlogs as well as journal prompts, and I really find your content to be among the very best. I've started journaling again this March intermittently (after a break of 8 years) then regularly every day since summer this year. I'm finding the long-term results of journaling to be really positive and has really benefited my mental health overall, in addition to being a huge fan of fountain pens and cursive.
Congrats on finding a groove that helps you! I likewise picked it back up during the pandemic when my career was nearly crushed by the gathering restrictions, and it has proven to be very cathartic for my stress management and well being. And a great excuse to use fun fountain pen ink colors 🤩
Oh, Alicia! All the luck and courage for packing and moving (but that is so exciting in the end!). When I saw your Hobonichi Weeks 2022 tiger pattern I gasped - I received mine a month ago! The fabric is so pretty, I cannot wait to use it (or actually maybe I can wait because I feel like time is flying by without us noticing 🙈🤣)
I'm curious how your thought process when journalling varies from typewriter diary to leuchtturm A5 to other journals. Do you keep some more focused on certain types of thoughts than others ? By the way, I feel you with the move. We moved in August from one state to another but our house in the new state is in the middle of a major renovation. We cannot move in. So we are comfortably camped in a suites hotel, indefinitely. I know that feeling of yearning for a quiet evening on my own sofa, watching you on TH-cam, listening to an audiobook, knitting or writing. It will happen for us both. Just stay zen. I'll do the same.
Good luck packing! We moved into our forever home in July, and it is SUCH a good feeling to be unpacked and moved in, I really hope for you that you can have that feeling soon! I wish for you both to have a painless move, and to be feeling home and able to have your quiet couch-snuggles and decompress in your new home very, very soon. Thank you for sharing your types of journals. I love hearing what works for other people.
Good luck with the move! I love A5 rings. My current journal is on Tomoe River paper in a small ringed binder, I print a pale grey 0.5mm grid, 2 up, double sided on A4 then cut the pages int 2 and punch. It really does ‘bring me joy’.
I’m starting the 5 year hobonichi next year for the first time; I’m pretty excited about it! I’m gonna do my best to write something each day. We’ll see how that goes, haha 😛. I got the same planner for 2022! Also my first use of that next year lol I’m so excited. I’m gonna have an all in hobonichi year I’ve decided, cousins and all. We’ll see how it goes
I need to catch up with my 5 year journal! I ordered my new weeks just this week. I went for the Japanese theatre masks but almost got the green tiger one!
Best wishes to you Alicia and Brian on your new move. Did you give up on your pocket? Would love to consider an A5 from your shop. Thank you for sharing your inspiration always X
So Happy for yourself and Brian, it will be lovely to see you settled in your new Home. Been following you for a wee while and really enjoyed all of your content. I wish You, Brian Fig and Bean much joy in your New Home.
Gaahhhh moving! My partner and I are going to be moving across the country soon-ish. With two cats. I'm looking forward to the move, but not to the moving. It's really inspiring to see all of the journals you're keeping. I have four books that I use regularly: A5 dot grid for work notes; A5 lined for my primary journal (those are both Midori MD notebooks right now, but I switch it up); an A6 Hobonichi Techo (English) for quick creative journaling, and sometimes ink swatching and stamping - lots of color; and an A6 Hobonichi 5-year Techo, which I am not being very faithful to, unfortunately. I really want to write in it every day, but I never think of it before I go to bed. Maybe I should try writing in it first thing in the morning. Hmm..... Anyway. Thanks for another great video - I'm always happy to see that you've posted something new, and I always enjoy watching. Best of luck with your move! I hope it all goes smoothly and faster than you expect. :)
I tried to write in my 3-year Midori journal at night but that lasted about a month. Now I do it first thing in the morning with my coffee, and I am very consistent. There is a lesson there that surely should apply to other things I take on, but I'll be damned if I'm going to learn it.
@@edreilly6674 Haha, I love it. Maybe it's because you paired the journaling with coffee, so it hitches a ride with your strong desire to have the coffee. :-D
I started my first journal last summer in July, a copper Leuchtturm A5. Started my second this year in April, a Rhodia A5 softcover. It should be finished this month. #3 is back to Leuchhturm. I got a Red Dot with a blue cover. Rhodia paper worked very well with the fountain pen ink. Even the worst bleeder from my Leuchtturm didn’t do it in the Rhodia, but I liked doodling and drawing more in the Leuchtturm. Just a bit more tooth for pencil. I wish I had the foresight to buy old typewriters back when people were practically tossing them out. I’d really like an old Remington, Underwood, or Smith Corona.
Urgh moving is the worst. I have done enough of it. I bought my house and said to my wife: “I am not moving ever again. When I die, board up the house and inter me here.”
I love the idea of the 5 year journal but I just can't keep it up 😢. What kind of entries do you do in your typewriter journal? I'm asking beacuse I like the idea but I can't have two diaries at the same time...one always get left behind. Oh and hope the move goes well and fast!
Hi, will you mind sharing your email id to send you the details about an old sheaffer pen of mine which having some issues. I want to send the details with its picture of nib and feed and would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

The ferret certainly lends more vim to the video. Cheers.

It’s a difference size completely, I wouldn’t know how to classify it, haha. Closer to an A5, but narrower. And thank you!

Honestly nothing different from my daily journal. I just sit down and the typewriter sort of takes over and I just type!

I like the idea of a typewriting journal. What kinds of things are you dreaming up for it?

You remind me of Jo Marsh from Little Women.
Ooh thank you so much!

Stalogy is nice but they get monotonous. Too smooth and too many pages for me to use it as my main diary.
