A friend just offered me his tv for free because it has this problem and even has the replacement parts for it. Thanks to this excellent instructional video, I am convinced I will buy a new TV with a warranty, thank you , that is all.
lol yep. I am able to do everything in this video, but man the hassle of ordering an led replacement that fits while it sits in pieces in the shop for a week ... i'll just buy a new 80" hdtv on amazon for 50 bucks instead. maybe ill get one free when i buy a toaster
You definitely make it look easy lol, as a serious DIY man myself I’m feeling a bit hesitant giving this a go lol, but I guess my tvs already semi broken lol
Yes and for those interested..... the hard way to do this is by only using a tennis ball and an eyelash as your primary work tools and..... of course being blindfolded whilst perched on the roof of your car....during a hurricane GL 🙄
Appreciate the video. By the time I get the gear and will probably break a bunch of stuff while taking it apart, I should probably just buy a new one. But man…serious props to you for doing this, you make it look easy!
@@pkfutureceo I ended up buying another one. I still have it and thinking about letting aTV repair person look at it for an estimate. I took one apart before trying to fix an issue but ended up recycling it. I'm 0-2 right now. 😂
Good vid .. very professional 👍🏻👍🏻 do you know if this method is the same for most smart tv’s ?? Mine is a 50inch LG.. its not long had full replacement of stripes n thinking this be better than another £150 a year or so after..
Disassembled my tcl the weekend, ive repaired the older thicker bezel types before, was the difference between £428 for tv or £34 for a new l.e.d strip. Since its not that old went for the strip, not that I have much spare time. But figured keeping the old strip & replacing the leds with my smd gear, since this was the only replacement available to buy at the time might be a good idea. Usually if you replace individual components from mass-produced items, its much better quality & may last longer.
Yo, i just opened my TV a few days ago, only one led was dead, how i am supposed to know the type of smd leds ? My led needs 6V and the dimensions 3x3mm. Regards.
Kinda reminds me of replacing the digitizer on an old android (before they started gluing the screens down.) I used to buy the replacement parts on Amazon for $20 and do all my own phone repairs. If you're pretty handy and pay attention well, you should be able to do this! 💪😎
Im trying to test my leds individually with my meter in diode mode, ive scratched off the top layer of insulation for the test points. I cant get any of them to light up, and they all read open. Should i get a led tester or did something on the led driver over voltage and actually kill all of them?Im trying to test my leds individually with my meter in diode mode, ive scratched off the top layer of insulation for the test points. I got to the point where I needed to remove the old LED (4:45) but didn't have the tool you used so I used a small screwdrive to get it off. What remains doesn't look look like at 4:48 but its shiny with a raised square on the left -'ive side and a raised vertical rectangle on the right +'ive side separated by a shiny groove. This matches the back of the new LED. I tried using Anders Products liquid wire to make the connection but that didn't work so I guess I need to find some liquid solder. BUT, I'm afraid that I remove more of the old LED than I should have. Or less. If I removed more is there a way to recover from the error? Also, where did you buy you wire cutter? Thanks.
its ok to remove more of the old led. but the reason why I cut of the top is I don't need to heat up the old strip to get the new led on. If you remove the old led there should be two pads that you can use to connect the new led to. You can use any small wire cutters here is a link for the wire cutters www.ebay.ca/itm/133954224997?hash=item1f304b4365:g:FV8AAOSwdS1hJ7H3
@@NewsonsElectronics I'm so relieved. I thought I'd have to try and find the actual replacement strips. Thank you for the link to the wire cutters. I think the wire glue I'm using is too runny for this kind of application. Can you recommend a liquid solder. The searches I've done come back with vague non-electronic application results.
Hi. I have n LG 65in 65UF8600 3DTV. I am nearly certain I have a few cracks which have formed in one or more diffusion layers on the TV. I have soft glowining curved lines about 6-8in long in 4 spots. They become sharper when I compress the screen. TV was never struck. I think plastic just shrunk and cracked due to constant on use. I can't find diffusion material anywhere. Any ideas? I'm sure there's different materials, I'm guessing it' the thickest of multiple layers. Is it special because it's a 3DTV? Thanks!
I don't want to sound like I'm talking down on you, but repairs like this are pretty easy. I used to fix similarly broken PlayStation Vita consoles in highschool and sell them, if I could do it as a 14 year old, you can do it too. it just looks intimidating because the unnecessary specialty tools like the LED tester and soldering iron. Just buy an entire new led strip for like $20 and it cuts out both those tools. Give it a try your TV is already broken. Who knows, you night even pick up a new hobby.
Sometimes the tv is too old and you cant find the strips online, and so replacing individual leds is the only option. That's the situation I'm in with my 10 year old philips tv that I'm fixing right now.
do you have a recommendation for what LEDs I should use both of your links above are outdated. I believe the strips in my tv are the exact same as yours.
THANKS FOR VIDEO! Friend brought me same TV , same problem but I think different issue: 1. I did not check LED's like you did. 2. I don't see 65V at the connector between +VLED1 and -VLED1 or +VLED2 and -VLED2 on top of the power supply and I see 65 V at the 56uF 100V capacitors ( C8107, C8108 ) beside the connector. Looks like something does not switch power from the PS to the connector.
Just seen comments 😂😂 looks tough but why not.. its already broke n been replaced fir me so just learn a thing or two or been told you can use the leds else where 🤷🏼♂️
I think its the backlight issue but I cant do this myself. I was told over the phone to just forget about repairing it Its a 55 inch Hisence smart Roku Tv but after 2 years 2 months it blnks on and off. Why wont the factory reset work? TV looks brand newI guess they dont make them smart just low quality. I have a LG led tv that is 14 yrs old works well. Its not a smart tv and its small but still works. Why are Hisence for $600 I expected tv to last at least 5 to 6 years. I hear the same from others, very few actually have a good one for 5 years I dont know Im in a rush to buy a tv now low on $ just LG is small for my living room. I dont know now what brands to trust but I do need a smart TV
Mal...
F this...I'm going for projectors now instead of TVs since an issue this simple of a backlight is so expensive and time consuming to fix...many native 1080p projectors are cheap now plus you can adjust the screen to anything it doesn't use up any space

you can use normal solder and iron, just tack it on.
