It was sad when he said that the color of the scrubs seem to signal for some people a degree of humanity that his skin color does not. No one should have to live or feel like this.

This message is for everyone who is reading it: The Lord Jesus came down from heaven, sent by God the Father, to teach us how to live, and to die/pay for our sins on the cross. Then God raised Him from the dead on the third day. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father. Now, God commands everyone who is reading this message to repent (turn away from your sinful ways), and to put their faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. Don’t die in your sins: Repent, and put your faith in Jesus. The Lord Jesus came to save, not to condemn. The Lord is coming soon. (John 3:17)

Unfortunately, it is so. I've been in situation with police before with a bunch of white guys. They defended me because somehow, someway they smelled marijuana and since I was the only black guy in the car, they wanted to search me, have my ID... mind u I was in the back seat with 2 other dudes.
It's funny how much they apologized after the encounter. The driver was in tears. They were like dude u don't deserve this. They were even sadder that I didn't think it was a big deal because that's MY normal

Most of what he stated seems to be in reference to randoms on the street and not the police. Would it be safe to say most of the issue/anxieties are within his mind? It almost like he feels the NEED to impress or bring comfort to the minds of ignorant racist non black people. Sometimes, When u hate being black, that's when u usually go out of your way to PROVE to idiots that you're not what they perceive u to be. Had he not gave AF about non blacks ACCEPTING him, he wouldn't be doing stuff like riding bikes in medical scrubs

Stopped by a store to return items, sweaty and fresh from playing tennis. Got turned down by the store clerk, got talked down to by an older White male attendant who - shockingly - threatened to call security. From a distance, a well-dressed White female shopper recognizes me and says a big cheerful "Hello Dr. 'insert my name' ! ", and comes over to chat with me. The store clerk's countenance changes and he is now a lot quieter, almost embarrassed. With a calm smile, I ask for the manager. This time, the matter is quickly resolved in my favor. I walked out, certain about what single factor helped to humanize and dignify me to the point of being treated better.

TRUE STORY!! I wrote a paper on this EXACT matter 25 years ago! I cant recall the tile but it had "scrubs" in it, something like "Is it me or the scrubs". I have it saved in my email somewhere. For some reason I had the foresight to save it. I was an ER/Psych tech at a hospital and wrote the paper as I was a student at the time as well, I was in my late 20's (it was the subject I chose for an English assignment). It describes how people would cross the street to avoid me at night without scrubs yet would cross to be on my side with scrubs...thats just a small example of my paper to show parity. I'm more amazed that over 20 years later a young man in scrubs came to the exact same conclusion AND also wrote a paper. I will definitely find the paper I wrote. I'm also AMAZED that I even stumbled on the story (though its 3 years later). Still, Synchronicity is REAL. I needed this. Thank you for the nudge Universe. I cherish this moment.

People would offer to let me cut them in line when I’d go to Chipotle for lunch, bus drivers were much nicer and more patient when I boarded the bus, and although people already hold doors open for me, they’d throw in a nod and a smile. As a brown skinned young woman, I had clearly noticed that if I just walked into a place well dressed, I got a better treatment than if I was in jeans or casual clothing. Upscale stores especially were even more obvious! I’m a well educated professional woman but store clerks can’t tell the difference! Their inherent bias is what they go by. it’s sad that anyone must endure the discrimination. No doubt African Americans have it worse, sadly. Kudos to this brave young man!!

There were less than 100 Black students out the 10k students. Any racial incidents were swept under the rug but the quality of education was 2nd to none. Wearing these shirts has SAVED MY LIFE, several times, when confronted by police while jogging at night. I attest this is 💯 percent true. While wearing scrubs, people smiled at me and said hello, and no one followed me around stores. I realized the difference in treatment and was astounded. I am a black woman. I left my profession of nursing years ago but still had my scrubs (I suppose I held on to them as a thing of pride). It happened that I needed to do laundry and my scrubs (all white) were the only clean clothes I had, so I wore a pair the whole day. As I went about I noticed the elevated treatment from EVERYONE that was not given wearing regular clothes in those same places. After that day I deliberately wore my scrubs a few more times to confirm the difference in treatment of being very respected and trusted in uniform versus being treated like a criminal or almost being discarded in regular clothes. There wasn't even any conversation about profession just simply the fact that I wore white scrubs, and as the gentleman suggested, the scrubs I wore trumped the color of my skin and also trumped my poverty level. All this occurred in Georgia USA.
