      I'm for death penalty. Sadly England in 1960s capital punishment was abolished. It was the most stupid things United Kingdom and Europe has ever done. I live in Lithuania where like in almost all Europe where are no capital punishment at all. And that’s the worst thing that makes me angry while living in Europe. The death penalty is the most appropriate, the best punishment to be imposed for murder, treason, terrorism and rape. A great examples are India, Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei where are capital punishment for a lot of crimes. And it’s just amazing, adorable. Such countries like Japan, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei are an example. I sincerely hope that for crimes such as murder and treason Europe will recover the wonderful and amazing capital punishment.

    Comparing Ruth Ellis with this other woman who shot her lover and got off is pointless.
    Ruth Ellis opened admitted she intended to kill Blakely and at the time the punishment for murder was death and no other sentence could be handed down.

It’s so annoying listening to the same thing every time a woman chooses to commit a crime. Women are never held accountable they instead blame a man. Either their dad , brother , husband , BF etc

    • @TonyWeaving
      @TonyWeaving 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I am against the death penalty full stop. 2 wrongs don't make a right. The BBC made a documentary in the early 1980s about a man whom was tried, convicted of murder and sentenced to death. The documentary is called 14 days in May. I recommend people watch it. It was so sad seeing him with his family for the last time his last meal etc etc. Then a feed hours after the execution was carried out new evidence came to light to prove his innocence. The death penalty should NEVER be re introduced and should be banned the world over. If you get life that what it should be LIFE without Parole.

    • @Viking1080
      @Viking1080 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Quite the opposite. It was clearly a first degree murder. There was not any real doubt of her guilt and she filled all requirements for the death penalty. More so she seems to have been hellbent on having a lethal date with mr Pierrepoint and went out of her way to ensure that and refusing every opportunity to avoid the gallows. Basically: Justice, according to the laws at the time. was served and her sentence was just. Arguably it was an assisted suicide

    • @jamesross1799
      @jamesross1799 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But she was guilty of murder wich carried the death penalty. So technically the sentence was just for a murder charge. Unfortunately she hanged herself when she said "it is obvious i intended to kill him "

Alot of people stay because of fear..the fear of the abuser finding out ur plans, the punishment if u get caught..these situations are dangerous and scary and hard to get out of, period. Some stay for the stability and some because they just dont want to be alone. There is no way u can truly understand it without having been that situation urself..its a whole other world of pure hell and darkness that i wouldn't wish on anyone.

      Throughout history, there are people with harsher lives out there (me included, I've been abused to bleed by my own mother and cheated by my husband and my own bestfriend since childhood, I got severe depression for years) and they don't choose murder. Especially when they have children or elderly (or even cats and dogs) who needed them very much. Misery doesn't give you the right to kill someone unless it was self defense or punishment.

    The emotions roused after Ellis’ execution involve the economic, social, and financial inequity of her situation, not only bc she was a mother. It’s also easy for me to get upset about this case, when there were at least 3 gross miscarriages of justice....one was the horrible abuse Ellis suffered, the other was her “friend” who incited her to murder by providing a gun with the constant “encouragement” to an extremely vulnerable, desperate woman, and the social position of the man she murdered....but the problem was, Ellis didn’t do murder to protect herself from another future beating. _She did it in cold blood. That’s why she was executed._ We can’t look back and apply Battered Woman Syndrome-the definition and use as a criminal defense-which was a few decades down the road, however perfectly Ellis fit the definition. I believe she would not have lost her life if she had committed murder in the middle of another beating, as happened to the woman with higher social status disingenuously stated here, but bc she hadn’t done that, the judge had no choice: death was the only legal possibility at that time.

      Not what happened with the other woman of higher social status (Elvia Blakely). If you go back and rewatch the video around 32:00, it says that Blakely's claim that she was attempting to commit suicide when her husband physically stood in front of the gun and was thus "accidentally" killed was the ostensible legal reason why she was acquitted, not because she killed her lover in self-defense.

    Yes, and if Ruth had decided to focus her attention on being a devoted mother instead of chasing after men, she could have avoided the death penalty and all the drama that led up to it. Clearly, Ruth was the one who needed to be reminded that she was a mother.

      Yes, but look where she got that from? Her own mom wouldn't protect her daughters when their father raped and abused them. Their dad RAPED AND ABUSED his girls, mom turned a blind eye. For years. He even had a child with Muriel it seems and they pretended it was the child of their dad and mum! Come on now!!

      They have left a lot of information out of this production. Such as, for example, the sexual abuse that Ruth and her sister Muriel had endured for years at the hands of their father. Ruth's sister Muriel even gave birth to a baby boy by her father. That kind of horrific childhood, if it had been made public, could have provided Ruth with some leniency during the trial. Because she seemed to be carrying around the scars from that childhood trauma for the rest of her life, and the trauma certainly contributed to the poor choices she made. She also tended to pick men just as abusive as her father, which is often the case with victims of abuse.

The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, commonly referred to as the Old Bailey after the street on which it stands, is a criminal court building in central London, one of several that house the Crown Court of England and Wales. The street outside follows the route of the ancient wall around the City of London, which was part of the fortification's bailey, hence the metonymic name. Hope this helps answer your question.

    I'm always in two minds about the Ellis case. On one hand, she was a woman who made bad choices because she wanted The Good Life. On the other, she was a conniver who was desperate to hold on to the only person who could give her the life she thought she wanted, David Blakely. She used her feminine whiles and also some pretty clever deceit to make sure he stayed with her. The night she shot him in front of the Magdala public house, there were many witnesses. She made no effort to hide herself or what she intended to do. She told the police she intended to kill him. It was an "if I can't have him, no one can" situation. If a man had done what she did, he would have been hanged without thought. But because Ruth Ellis was a woman, somehow the law had to change for her? No. She got what she deserved.

    If her thinking was an eye for an eye wouldn't his death be in taken for the life of the baby he took when he punched her in the stomach causing a miscarriage? I'm not for the death penalty but I have to say at least she was honest and knew what she did. If the other woman did the same crime and lied that it was an accident, that is not right obviously. Particularly, if the jury believed her because of her class and she had the money for a better defense. So there could be the same crime but different sentences. That is not right and another reason the death penalty is not a moral choice or justice. No justice system is infallible and innocent people get found guilty and guilty people found innocent. It isn't right to murder someone for a murder or other crime. Two wrongs don't make a right. Especially, in cases where the person is innocent or when some people lie and get away with the crime. And even more important given prejudice of some kind is a factor in that happening far too often.
