Hey man I was thinking of building this design aswell then I stumbled across your video when you look at the finished shopping board from a birds eye veiw like as you're about to cut something what are the measurements of the brick and mortar?
Very nice job. Only thing is brick layers don't line up the joints anymore let alone stager them correctly. They do a horrible job you do a perfect job. Thanks
Very Nice! 1- Thanks for the tip on the router bit, I'm gonna buy one and try it out. and 2- Every cutting board i've ever made contained Walnut and then a variety of other species. Again, very nice
Do you have thoughts on spraying the board with water after your initial sanding to raise the grain? Then sanding again to get the fuzzies off? And then applying your final coats of oil....
Just curious... did you plane it with a router because you don't have a regular planer, or because the router is better for some reason? Similar question for sanding... orbit sander better than a drum sander or do you not have a drum sander?
I have a planer, but you don't want to run an end grain board through it because there's a risk of it blowing apart (damaging the board, planer, or both). There are ways to lower the risk, (gluing on support boards, super shallow passes, helical cutterhead) but doing it with a router sled is much safer for both the board and the board builder.
I took some pictures from your video and went out and showed the shop 🏬 owner he also makes wood 🪵 stuff 🚪🪑🪟🪞but he refused saying it is very difficult not working always. He said it is very difficult, we cannot do such a thing. ☹️
Great job. I might just try my hand at this, now that I suddenly seem to have a lot of free time on my hands. Oh, and thanks for not adding an overly loud disco techno party soundtrack and making a huge mess out of it. I've never understood why that's a thing.
Next time clean and sand out the burnt marks on the finger grips before you put the mineral oil on it. Believe me I forgot on one of my cutting boards and lost the sell because of that burnt mark!
Hi there - what type of bit are you using in the router when you are smithing down the tops of the boards? I like that idea with the jig you have created. Beats buying a drum sander or chance jointing them through a planer
Thanks! The board ended up about 15 3/4" x 9 1/8". The bricks are about 1 1/8" x 1 7/8". The mortar strips are 1/4" thick, and the finished board is 1 7/16" thick.
Very good video presentation, and excellent end-grain cutting board!
Thank you!

Brandon, I built this board from your video about 2 years ago and it turned out great. About to build my second! Thank you!!!
I'm glad you found it helpful!

Beautiful. Great idea for those of us who don’t own a planer!
If I had know this I wouldn’t have bought a planer.
Excuse me what is the name of that tool

I like the idea of using the router like a planer! 👍
No crappy music, no incessant babbling, no annoying wives/girlfriends, kids or pets.
Good job all around, nice board.
Great job. I want to do something like this when I get the equipment for it.
I am going to make one of these for my mate he is a huge Pink Floyd fan.

Excellent planing jig
Oh yea, strip dimensions? Just curious to make a ratio.
Please tell me the L W H of hard maple and walnut, please.
Do you have the measurements to make this? Pretty cool looking
Awesome job!
New challenge: 45° herringbone pattern with contrasting perimeter
Cookie sheet genius.
Thank you

What kind of flattening bit did you use? How many flutes? Thanks
I use this one: geni.us/0ibEA25
Hoe big did you cut your second strips, the ones with the bit of dark walnut in
BEAUTIFUL!! LOVE THIS!!
Nice video!!
May i know what was that liquid you we’re putting?
Echt gute arbeit , gefällt mir sehr gut...
can I learn the both wood material?
which tree are you using for this?
Black font with white border can be seen on any color, would make it much easier to read
Love your job wish you gave the dimension on the cutting board
has anyone mentioned the Rent-A Spouse ad in the newspaper around 2:05??
Haha. Catchy name for a handyman service.

Thats what I do. I didn't film that part in this video, but I've showed it in the more recent ones.
This cutting board gives me astigmatism
Nice work.... and no goofy music too. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
what type of wood is that?Exellent job.
Walnut and hard maple.
Trabalho incrível, parabéns. Saudações aqui do Brasil.
Wow ! It is prefectly made !
Thanks!
Excellent work. What routing bit size and type did you use to do the flattening? You made very quick work of flattening it.
What are the dimensions of the boards before gluing?
👏👏Esta precioso. Mucho trabajó.
I just started and was wondering where to find those find types of wood? Big box stores don't really carry anything like that
Search your area for a hardwood supplier. I'm in the Houston TX area, and buy my lumber from Houston Hardwoods.

Nice Job
Lovely work, made even better if you'd sanded the burn marks out of the finger grips
I did to the extent I had the ability at the time.
mineral oil and glue? Is that even safe for a cutting table or will that get into the food?
Perfectly safe. The glue is rated food safe and the mineral oil is for human ingestion. Many tens of thousands of boards are made this way every year.
@@brandonthebuildertx thanks for the helpful answer 👍
Which mill did you use for milling cutter? 3.33sec
I use a Whiteside 6220.
Brandon Hartman - Woodworking ok, thanks man!
Строгание фрезером -это конечно круто.
I am curious. What part of the Houston Clear Lake area is your shop? I recognized the contractor section of the local Citizen newspaper.
North of Clear Lake near the bay.
master piece very good job......
Great work! What are the original dimensions of the blanks?
Nice work 👍. I prefer it without the fillet 😅
Great build, very geometricly satisfing!! Well done sir
Excellent work!
Nice work. Is that some special food grade glue?
This board was made with Titebond 3. It's rated food safe, as is Titebind 2 which I use more often now.

What type of router bit do you use to make the recess at the end
It's a 1/2" core box bit.

What kinda but did you use for your router to plane the top?
I use this one geni.us/0ibEA25
So wondfeaul and Beautifaul work. Iliik it 👍💯❤
Normal wood glue? any chance of the glue damaging food? thanks
I used Titebond 3 on this one, but mostly use Titebond 2 now. Both are rated safe for food contact once they're cured.

Mineral oil.

What liquid?
It's finished in food grade mineral oil.
Thank you
Great work, you might want to look into using Coconut Oil for your boards...
coconut oil is NOT recommended! can go rancid
That’s super nice! Do you have rough detentions of the board and of the wood strips before glueing?

Walnut.
