Interesting choices. I agree with some disagree with a few but I like how unique your list was. Biggest surprise was the Byrds at number one. Im a big fan too. They tend to be a bit underrated these days but their mix of folk and rock was the start of an entire genre. I actually prefer their first lps in mono. To me they just hit harder in mono. I think all rock pre 1966 should be heard in mono! Just my opinion. Im not gonna nitpick everyone has their favorites and their reasons. But for me nothing can touch the Velvets they were and still are to me the best US band ever. The one I can never understand is the Beach Boys. Granted they were an excellent singles band. But for my money they never released a good lp. Not even Pet Sounds is good all the way through. Two great songs and whatever for the rest. Anyway enjoyed the video.
I love the Byrds and not only their early albums. I didn’t care for Velvet Underground until the 80s. Really not many liked Velvet Underground in the 60s. I generally prefer stereo but mono is preferred up to 65 or 66. But I’m perfectly fine with most stereo versions.

Hard to argue with any of your picks. Love the Doors! I’ve really been getting into the Butthole Surfers lately and the Cramps too! I have to thank you for turning me onto Redd Kross I love those guys and the albums you showed are among the ones I picked up at your recommendation.
I actually just picked up L7 Hungry for Stink basically after watching this killer Rock Doc about Lollapalooza and their song Andres. If you haven’t seen that Lollapalooza doc It’s on Prime Check it out Pretty awesome! Peace ✌️👽
One thing to note is that most of the great music Richie showcases bubbled up from the underground during the oppressive Reagan years.
WAR, Weather Report? Heck yea! Mysterious Traveler my personal fav....R.E.M. UH HUH.....I was hoping you’d pull the Dead out...Rich 😮no Canned Heat?? Great list though, good description of each....
Canned Heat and Steppenwolf got heavy consideration.
I'm going to do a video based on this video.
KISS at #1.
Rinyl Vichie how ya been? So...I have to go with Historically speaking for the Greatest
U.S band..... The Beach Boys Created a sound that really has never been duplicated at the level
The Beach Boys achieved.....Also another in my top 5..CCR...Just a Great band (as I'm sure you know).
I would have put the Doors a bit higher and (I know your not big on these guys) But Chicago deserves to be
close to the top 5......Great band! Anyhow fly low, beat the radar and all that Crap!!! Out!
I’m big on the Doors. Chicago not so much. I agree with about the Beach Boys. I actually had them at 2 but moved them to 3 right before filming. Three all time ain’t bad.
@@vinylrichie007 Not at all!! Good job Vinyl...
Would have had Paul Revere and the Raiders in there, agree with you on the Byrds at No1. Hard to condense it down to 25 bands.
@@blastmatic I like Paul Revere and the Raiders but I think I would include the Monkees before them. Is that crazy?
Yea a Vinyl Richie video that starts off with Slayer! Hell 👍! L7 this is going to be a list that goes back and forth. Metallica! REM only got one record shown, yea. That was Digital Gramaphone #1. He didn’t have Doors at all on his list. He told me I just got zonked. We like Pumpkins. There are the Doors 🚪 of perception, man! Other than Heroin, I still can’t click with Velvet Underground. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
A lot of people don’t get the Velvet Underground. I didn’t like them until the 80s. I like REM but no way are they #1. Part of these type of lists is generational.
MC5 & Funkadelic are the only 2 I thought you'd include but didn't
Parliament/Funkadelic would be 26 or 27. I really like the first MC5 but not a big fan of Back In The USA. I haven’t any of their other albums. A couple of them recorded with GG Allin though.
@@vinylrichie007 I think their best is High Time, give that a listen again if you haven't recently VR!!
Good to see The Cramps in there.
I imagine that your will be unlike some of the others videos I will likely watch on this topic. Because I am so predictable, VU would be #1 for me (probably).
@@EmbryonicRobot a bit unlike some of the others. Mazzy and I had the same #1.
Fun list.
1. Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band
2. The Stooges
3. Television
4. The Velvet Underground
5. The Feelies
6. Big Star
7. Funkadelic
8. Hüsker Dü
9. Dinosaur Jr.
10. R.E.M.
11. Talking Heads
12. Fugazi
13. X
14. Nirvana
15. Sleater-Kinney
16. Blue Cheer
17. MC5
18. Metallica
19. Ramones
20. Mission of Burma
21. DIO
22. Melvins
23. Sparks
24. Slayer
25. Creedence Clearwater Revival
26. Sly & the Family Stone
27. The Temptations
28. The Gun Club
29. Bad Brains
30. Misfits
Bubblin': Cramps, Black Flag, Love, Pere Ubu, Kyuss, Sleep, Van Halen, ZZ Top.
Forgot The Pixies and Little Feat. Oh yes and Steely Dan.
Of those I think Little Feat rate the highest.
Yeah... I'd agree. Maybe Crickets?
Steely Dan, Sly and Family Stone, velvet underground, Funkadelic, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Wu tang, REM, RHCP, Booker T and MGs, Talking Heads, Blondie, Pixis, Allman Bros, Doors, Earth Wind & Fire, Ramones, black crowes, little fear (with Lowell), Santana, Wilco, Flying Buritto Bros, the Jazz Messengers, public enemy, beach boys (non surf stuff) Television/Modern Lovers
That is a great list of bands. I would have included Black Crowes if I had them on vinyl.
Santana, The Doors, The Dead, Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Airplane, and The Byrds would be on my top 25. Also do you know if the Chuck Biscuits comes with sausage gravy?
@@davethepickupartist7161 I think Chuck Biscuits came with lots of drugs. That is why he didn’t last in Black Flag.
Wot, no hair metal bands! Seriously though-I’d have some of the other 60s LA bands on the list- Love, Spirit and from the 70s-Little Feat.
Spirit is an overlooked band. The 60s LA band that I should have included was Kaleidoscope.
Just off the top of my dome & in no particular order …
*Redbone*
*MC5*
*Grand Funk Railroad*
*Riot*
*Lynyrd Skynyrd*
*Minor Threat*
*Society System Decontrol*
*Jimi Hendrix / The Jimi Hendrix Experience*
*Jimi Hendrix / Band of Gypsy’s*
*10,000 Maniacs*
*The Freeze*
*Sir Lord Baltimore*
*Band of Horses*
*Possessed*
*The Doors*
*War on Drugs*
*Dead Kennedys*
*Beastie Boys*
*Sly & The Family Stone*
Is Band Of Horses a band? We used to ssy Redbone plays rubberband guitars.
Iove the Fleetwood
A great make of Cadillac.
Very good list but come on Richie Baxters is the Airplane’s third album, Crown is number 4. I wanted to be that one dude who corrects you. 😵💫😎🤠😆
@@mazzysmusic Did I say third. Maybe I was thinking the third with Grace Slick. Maybe I’m full of it.
@ I loved your list. Going to Seattle Record show today. Maybe I’ll record mine tomorrow ✌🏼🚀
Flamejob is 90's. My fav from The Cramps is A date with Elvis which is 80s.
The Sonics
But great list
The Sonics were hard to leave off. They are great.
Holy shit Batman. 600 views, 50 comments and 8000 subscribers.... You've gone viral Pat. A pain in the ass ain't it. LOL
It’s all good.
Watch the video. It is very good.
Up to 140 comments. I don’t watch Rachel’s stream any more so that frees up 21 hours a week.
No ZZ Top, No CCR, No Talking Heads, No Devo. No Van Halen 🙄lol, I knew the Ramones was either #1 or #2 as much as you've been showing them recently, they're definitely my favorite US punk band. it's your list so just tell me to eff off..lol take care VR 🤘🤘.
Talking Heads were heavily considered. They came in at 28.
@@vinylrichie007 super great video, reminded me of the good old days ..
Battalion Of Saints
They are so awesome.
Van Halen Funkadelic Cheap Trick The Eagles Husker Du Love West Coast Pop Art The Cars Aerosmith X Wilco Los Lobos
Of those X and Funkadelic were the hardest to leave off.
DEVO should be within top 10
@@jessvex I like Devo but they aren’t top 25 for me.
By the way, have you listed anything on Discogs for sale yet?
No I haven’t. I will leave a comment and let you know when I do.
22 great choices, 3 terrible choices, haha. I also have Loser Editions and Walmart Exclusives in my collection.
I can only imagine the terrible choices. Every Walmart record I have picked up is excellent.
Hell awaits is the best Slayer album
@@ShivaShakti4488 It is a monster.
if you hold American beauty to a mirror. it reads American reality. its true! what? no grand funk!! dude...
I love two studio albums and the first live album by Grand Funk. After Closer To Home I don’t care for them.
16:38 Flamejob, I think you meant to say 90’s.
@@MurkyWater-x4d I certainly did mean 90s.
Love how your number one and Mazzy's would probably be the same but you're number 25 (and pretty much everything else) wouldn't even register with Old Man San Fran 😂
@@benrankins4446 We had a couple in common.
@@vinylrichie007 I thought you might but any opportunity to stir up Maslov's Dog.
you better have Ramones, Bad Brains and Minor Threat or I will be VERY disappointed....lol...
One out of three.
@@vinylrichie007 Jack of Jefferson Airplane took me in with him twice when we poor kids were bumming for tickets outside the Fillmore East. Bobby of the Dead did the same three times. Love those two bands!! And love those two righteous brothers
But no Jimi Hendrix Experience? Richie, you're killing me....
Your list is good but not great. Your omissions of Aerosmith and Creedence Clearwater Revival is akin to leaving Bach and Brahms off the greatest classical composers list. Also, you left off Husker Du, arguably the most influential US punk band. I hope you and your viewers, don't take offense to my comments. Just wanted to share my two cents. Thank you for sharing your awesome album collection and your perspective on the best US bands.
No germs?
They only released one album. The LA band that was hard to leave off was X.
You pronounced “Monsanto” as if it was an LA neighborhood. It’s actually a huge agribusiness corporation famous for their reckless bio-engineering of crops. Hence the album title hints at cloning of “teen babes.”
