I think specs are useful for letting the designers make cool effects without worrying about abuse of the cards by outside parties. I think things like the stealth mechanic are useful as well where the mechanic that is not specialized or talent-locked gains its effect based on which hero is using it. I do hope that they can make cohesive cards though, I feel that too many specializations will prevent creativity in deck building as heroes get more pigeon-holed into "archetypes" like the game yugioh, where only the most powerful cards are used generically since so many of the decks build themselves with internal synergies.
Definitely makes sense for not overburdening themselves with variables to balance. Plus it lets them include exciting powerful equipment like a Rosetta thorn without having to worry about other heros running with them.

Stove piping can free them from unintended consequences of class synergies when they make a new hero that attempts to emphasize only certain elements of the class. Rosetta was probably a very balanced card when taken for briar who is relatively light on the arcane damage section of runeblade. But for viserai and even for chane, and vynsett this would be too much
Agree with this. Besides their functions within the game, I also think specialization weapons and equipment are a good way to keep a hero's "essence" or "flavor" intact, which for me is one of the reasons why I love certain heroes. Heroes like Dorinthea whom I consider a "weapons expert" are awesome, but heroes that are so tied to their specializations have a different coolness factor to them. Go Commando!
Specializations let LSS make above average power cards, but don't want said card to be available to everyone, so it's a good thing in my book. It gives heroes some "personality".
I play Benji (mostly) and I am worried that when Katsu gets LL I will have no decent weapons. Ninja are odd as we only have one generic CC hero. Katsu (and who ever comes after him) will have a selection of weapons from Blitz. I was honestly hoping for more ninja weapons (or generic weapons) in the new release, but I guess not. maybe it will be done more by Class - Less powerful classes will have more non-specialized weapons but groups like wizards and Illusionists will get specialized weapons.
I'll actually one-up on this. I'd argue that through reason more weapons weren't released was due to power of the kodachi. If kodachi had been a spec, then there a chance Benji would have gotten his own true functional weapon.

And if Benji ever LLs in Blitz, they can continue to use zephyrs. On the flip side with apprently no big competitive Blitz tournaments, do I even need to wory?
Its good a little bit, but too much makes it feel like they build the deck for you and you only collect the parts. I prefer the designs to encourage more innovation and allow for different builds/deck strategies.
While I agree this is the likely way to go forward, I hope they don't over due it like the Victor Shield. Yes, it is nice, but it being a legendary specialization it means it will never gain value beyond direct Victor meta share. I would like legendaries being as open as possible for future design space.

I like the idea of armor and weapon specializations. I feel like it makes the heros of FAB feel more unique.
