Useful video, it has been driving me crazy seeing inconsistences between Kabbalistic cardinal point correspondences and the LBRP, particularly South and North, Michael with his sword(Air) and Leo,(Fire+Sun) yet assigned to fire, Kabbalistically Sun is Air, yet astrologically Fire!, Raphael with the wand(fire) yet on Eastern-Air. Then Biblical correspondences being different. For such an important Ritual, these kind of inconsistences are uncomfortable, the whole system seems to be messy at best, just like allocation of Gods to the tree, which seem to belong in multiple Sepheroth, maybe I am missing something, but its like some impossible jigsaw!.

I do find it both interesting and curious that, in regard to the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram, the banishing form is currently emphasized by most practitioners, whereas in the original Golden Dawn, the invoking form was emphasized. The Knowledge Lecture given to Neophytes instructed in the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, and the banishing form was mentioned in footnotes, almost as an afterthought. Does anyone know when the banishing form became the focus? Was this a Regardie-ism?

Thank you so much for this video! I have a daily ritual practice that starts and ends with performances of the LBRP. I have tried many variations over the years and I've come to the conclusion that the details don't matter so much as the mind-state you get into performing the ritual. It is a fantastic ritual for beginners because it helps you practice a lot of magical skills such as visualization and vibration, as well as how to enter a devotional state of mind and feel the presence of the Divine. Daily practice helps you learn discipline and dedication.
I'm not exactly sure how it works but there is something about letting yourself be a powerful magician at the center of the universe in the presence of God and the Archangels that just changes you. I started a serious daily practice over three years ago and my life has found direction and purpose and I'm really thriving now. It really helped me discover who I really am and what my relationship to my environment is. Discovering my true self has been like tuning a radio dial, in that I feel like the signal is gets clearer and clearer over time as I figure out who I was really meant to be in this lifetime. I'm so incredibly happy with my life these days and I owe a lot of it to pretending to be a wizard for an hour a day. 😂 🙅

LBRP is one of those things that really does not get enough attention. It is a great template of anyone who is looking to expand their magick. It has a lot of great elements and is based on that traditional Jewish prayer that was defined from the original aramanic one. Great video.

@@Ruey-pv7jx I always find uneducated morons like you stumbling into comments sections like this as though you never even watched the video. You are obviously of some dunce orthodox religious persuasion and have seen accounts of people converting to your religion after doing some evil devilish thing that they have since turned from. You are very easily manipulated. Magic is how you program yourself, if you imagine you are terrible at everything and won't achieve anything then that is what will eventuate from perpetually doing such a thing, if you think everything is fantastic and you are great then again that is the experience that will eventuate regardless of the truth of the situation. If you think saying certain things to a great power will make your life better, then if that is what you genuinely believe it will happen, whether this is your own perceptions or actual manipulation of forces or the universe itself is up for debate, but the end result of altering your perceptions is the same. Elaborate rituals help to concrete said perceptual altering. Hurting people is only a thing if you wish to inflict harm upon others, that is cursing and is a subset of magic, saying cursing is the begin all and end all of magic is like saying punching someone in the head is the only use arms have.

16:11 To make this clear, she's citing from chapter 10 of Regardie's "The Tree of Life", where he says he couldn't trace any authoritative reference, prior to The Equinox (see earlier in this video), which bears the slightest resemblance to the LBRP.
But then he brings up the book Dogma and Ritual (Levi), which quotes from the LBRP in 1854. And then he implies some sort of thread going back thru Agrippa and Barrett all the way back to medieval magicians, mentioning a License to Depart which was associated with exorcisms, evocations, defenestration, and banishings in general, including a quote from Goetia, and instructions from Chaldean Oracles and how to raise a devil dog.
And that's just covered on like 6 pages from The Tree Of Life. What a weird book!

    • @GizzyDillespee
      @GizzyDillespee ปีที่แล้ว

As far as evocations, banishing rituals are the equivalent of the venue turning on all the lights and blasting "Exodus" at closing time... giving ever stronger hints that it's time to go.

I loved this synopsis of the LBRP. I've been practicing this ritual and the LBRH daily for years now and have found them very effective in clearing negative energy. Also, I feel these rituals accelerate the process of alchemical transformation in those that employ them, and draw one closer to divine and angelic energies. I knew these rituals originated with the golden dawn, but I never understood their source material. Thanks for illuminating this topic!

And I also have an Egyptian version... Also depending on who I'm doing ritual for I will adapt it to their style. The only thing I change are the Hebrew wording for a more left hand path or Egyptian or Norse.

Glad you mentioned Gerald Gardner. You may want to look into his membership, income, freemasonry, specifically the French order. Me adroit Humain. Their English language ritual for the first- degree has elements that gardener, obviously took and put into his craft ritual. It was very familiar to me when I was initiated into the lodge, especially since the American “pagan Way “tradition has a mixture of both gardeners, ecstatic worship, and the golden dawns more hermetic, an intellectual focus.

Excellent research as always Dr. Puca. I'd just like to make one minor point.
From 20:20 mins you mention that the ritual "also uses" the "𝘏𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮".
    • This reference is of course symbolic and 𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥, rather than literal, and relates to the 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘥 or 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘪𝘦𝘥 positioning of oneself in Tipareth during the ritual.
*(As a side note, Crowley seems to recommend visualising oneself on the horizontal plane in this regard , with Malkuth behind and Kether ahead, as opposed to the more commonly understood vertical alignment, wherein Malkuth would be below and Kether above).
    • The Hexagram, although not actually included in the actual ritual text, creates the link, as you suggest, between macrocosm and microcosm, and can also be considered a reference to the significance of the Adeptus Minor grade (5°=6□), the resolution of which is the number 11, being that of Magick and the Odic Force (according to Crowley and Alan Bennet's codification in Sephir 𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩), and the Knowledge and Conversation of the HGA.
Keep up your amazing work Angela, it's invaluable.

Very clear ideas on how carefully chosen eclectic sources and codification come together to create an irresistible kind of ‘standard operating system’ for building any modern magic on top of. Not only the sources as you mention, but also the orchestration of modalities: visualization, vibration, ritualized movement and postures with classic geometry and ancient language prayers (like the Lords Prayer in Hebrew) .
I think the idea of it alone unleashes endless creativity in different implementations.

What an important video. You cover information that many people don't even question when they work with this ritual. I have been wondering about this for many years and I'm happy to have the understanding of why Christian beliefs are being mixed with magic. I have seen this in other traditions like Chinese medicine. That what we call ancient practice is very likely something that was created and inspired by the peoples of its time. The creativity and inspiration of rituals and philosophies is not a bad thing in my opinion. It actually gives us more reason to be critical thinkers while we engage in these sources and materials. I think that it's a good thing and it doesn't necessarily reduce their value and significance. Thank you again

Another ritual influenced by LBRP is the Setting of the Wards of Power by the English magical order Aurum Solis, belonging to the Ogdoadic Tradition, formed in London in 1897 by the occultists George Stanton and Charles Kingold.
The Setting of the Wards exists in one Hebrew version and a Greek (Neoplatonic) version.
The Setting, unlike LBRP, uses a widdershins drawn circle and uses a white visualized pentagram visualized and framed on the forehead of the magician and then visualized as being flung to the each of the four quarters successively.
It has the names Ruachiel, Ashiel, Mamiel and Auphiriel instead of Raphael, Michael, Gabriel and Uriel.
And in the Greek version the Archon names Soter, Alastor, Asphaleios and Amyntor are used.
It also incorporates Orphic symbolism alluding to the Waters of Chaos and the Serpent: "He peleia kai ho Ophis to Oion".
The visualized images of the archangels/archons are much like those of The Golden Dawn.
Cf. Melita Denning and Osborne Phillips - Mysteria Magica, Llewellyn Publishing.

As something of a joke (and yet also somewhat serious!), we also have often quasi-pronounced the acronym, as if it is a pseudo-French way of talking about eructation: "Le BuRP." ;)

🙅‍♀Is that the right emoji? Haha, anyway made it to the end. Good take on the roots of this one. In my view it doesn't matter that it was created when it was, it still functions on its own merits. It's kind of a very English creation as it's woven from the different cultures all swirling around London at the time the Golden Dawn was active. People take Christianity as a solid thing but it's just as eclectic as the Golden Dawn in reality, especially before Rome used it to continue ruling as much of humanity as it could capture right on through the Age of Pisces. The Bible is hobbled together from scads of ancient documents, Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian and Hebrew inputs galore.
The age is new so we need new religions. The 9th house of Aquarius is Libra where the ecumenical ethic arises, taking over from Scorpio on the previous 9th where it was physically more dangerous to travel beyond your local environs than it is now with Aquarius on the rising of the Tropical Equinox. Scorpio is the Holy Monster Church that swallows everything and hoards it underground like a dragon, most people died who dared venture beyond their native lands. Libra opens the world to Pax Templi. Fresh air in the precessional 9th house brings Ma'At back into the world, and Aquarius as the guide of identity knows itself to be a star unlike Pisces just taking the shape of whatever container a dictator slaps on us.
Do it yourself religion is a key to the Age in my opinion. The basic stance of science is 'try it and see what happens, and take notes', not 'trust the $cience, a holdover from when Pisces was the guide to identity and it was correct to 'do as the Romans do' so as to not be jailed, enslaved, or executed by tyrant rulers, still a problem but not to the degree it was when you couldn't simply hop on a train, bus or airplane and be in some far off land in a matter of hours.

🙅‍♂ Thank you very much for this great retelling of Wheeler's study!
I felt LBRP is a very messy thing the practitioner is actually supposed to tailor to oneself's understanding of esoteric knowledge so it would be more natural, effective and private to them specifically. It does not bear the authority it seems to have, which is actually inspiring. Who knows: maybe it is one of many things that feed the people's interest in Chaos Magic nowadays?

The Kate Bush song and accompanying video for 'Lily' seems to be very much based on the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram - the video, taken from her short film The Line, the Cross and The Curve is up on TH-cam in various places.

Keep up the Great Work.☠️🐈‍⬛🦇. May the spirit of grappa be with you always.

I had a HPS early on that was very into the GD and so we all learned the LBRP and practiced it pretty regularly in addition to things like the Resh vel helios and various ceremonial magick rituals. I am glad you brought up the bedtime shema I've also found that a curious connection with the angel calls. I will say my take on the GD is that while they employ jewish concepts it's like jewish concepts approached through a christian lens. I don't think there is very much Judaism at all in their system. All good food for thought for sure.

I have always been suspicious of the LBRP -As of the "why", that is beyond me. I have heard there are many problematics with this simple ritual, in the logic of it. Would you mind share your account of how that worked on/for you please?

@labellalabrutta2148 Well, that's over 20 years ago now, but I do remember it being mostly a sort of training or magical workout routine. Sort of. As for what it did to me, in the beginning there were times when I felt something more, like that the angels were there in a sense, but it faded quickly and it was over time more mechanical than anything else
