I freakin knew the one piece had to be something that could bring about a post-scarcity world. That’s how you bring about the “dawn”. An era of piece and harmony brought about by access to endless energy.
One thing I forgot to include in the video was that Oda stated he originally planned to end One Piece at Skypiea 🤯 This may the single biggest hint that this 1982 anime is his biggest inspiration for One Piece 🤫

Mysterious Cities of Gold was my fav series as a kid. Absolutely brilliant. There has been rumour that Oda was a fan of it but without any hard proof (i.e. quotes). It's why I liked One Piece in the first place as it reminded me of Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Yeah I really think he doesn't even want to mention it because many of the big mysteries were inspired in some way from this series. If he talked about it, it would spoil many ideas for the end of One Piece. But the similarities are very noticeable to anyone who checks out the show for themselves
Yeah, the series is awesome! My dad introduced it to me as a kid (something he watched as a kid and thought me and my brother might take to) and I loved it. Makes perfectly sense to me. I really love how you mention that One Piece world is post-apocaliptic, because it’s really odd how everyone is bound by “basically” steam/wind technology, but at the same time we keep seeing extremely advanced tech in some parts. Plus it’s understandable that any type of airplane tech would completely break this story, just like the giant eagle breaks tolkien universe. Also the world itself seems shattered, the way the world is does feel like some massive war almost destroyed the world So as a way to avoid it happening again, the world government makes sure that they will never reach that point, basically making illegal anything that could lead to a “nuclear” war. They started with good intention but now after many generations the power corrupted them, and they just live like gods while the ppl suffer
Point of order, Mendoza isn't Mexican Shanks. He's Spanish Shanks. He's a subject of Spain which becomes a bit of a plot point a couple times in seasons 2 and 3. Also, spoiler for season 2, Attanaeus (Esteban's father) doesn't die at the end of season 1. He is severely injured, but he survives. Also, the ending of Season 4 is 1000x as satisfying as a series ending as the ending of season 1 of Mysterious Cities of Gold. By the end, they go to all 7 Cities of Gold. If you liked season 1, you'll love the additional season and should watch them.
38:54 When the door in front of Esteban opens, the scene looks almost identical to the first ending of the One Piece anime (Memories), in which the characters in the foreground are looking at a golden sea in the background.
The random woman holding a baby can't be Luffy's Mother, cause when Shanks was reminding her (he met her in the past), Uta was a baby... However, Uta is 2 years older than Luffy...
I think a good candidate for our "Golden Mask Exposition Guy" is actually...Binks...of Bink's Sake fame. If Binks ate the Sake Fruit it's possible his Sake-Body would be effectively immortal , and might even get stronger with age, like aging wine. He might be sitting around aging in a barrel waiting to burst out like Luffy in Chapter 1. I think Binks would actually be a good candidate to explain all the world's backstory to us. "Trusting the power in the hands of innocent children" part KIND of makes me think that we've already gotten that. With the Celestial Dragons. I have a theory that they're supposed to be like overgrown spoiled children. Wanting "rides" and doing anything they want. So, I wonder if Oda is doing a dark take on this, subverting it a little. Depends on what they end up revealing about the Celestial Dragons. But, I wouldn't be surprised if the Celestial Dragons are what happens when you trust a group of children with ultimate power. And I think we even have some "proof" of there being TWO Ancient Kingdoms. If you look back, Vegapunk had TWO really big holograms on his island. A Giant Robot and a Dragon with Alien-Looking Antenna. I've been thinking that that hints that there's a literal race of "Celestial Dragons" who are aliens from outer space who inspired "our" Celestial Dragons, and they're the reason why they're trying to recreate Dragons on Punk Hazard. Thus, bringing Enel back into the story. But, maybe that's hinting at there being two ancient kingdoms instead?
@@missmilky6677 I'll admit, Vasco having the Glug-Glug Fruit DOES make my theory less likely. But, it doesn't quite make it impossible. We've seen plenty of times where there are two VERY similar Fruits. Like the Kilo and Ton Fruits. Ace's Flame Fruit and Akainu's Lava Fruit. Binks COULD just have the "upgraded" form of the fruit. But, I'll admit, just having a stronger version of a Fruit we've basically already seen WOULD be a little bit of a anitclimax for THE TREAURE of this story. So, I'm probably wrong...but I still really like the idea.
@@michaelestival9875 I like your idea too, and i guess it is probable that there could be a similar fruit to the glug glug fruit, maybe it could be a logia instead of a paramecia?
30:56 - which makes me think that Nami is from the D clan too. Oda even drawn her as Weather Queen. What if she is originally D clan’s Queen? I’ve always believed that Nami is from Ancient Kingdom and last surviving princess who at the end happens to be the Queen of Ak.
alot of people forget nami's backstory of her being an orphan from a warzone. along with her sister. The samething could have happened to Nami's people that happened to Robin's but Oda hasn't put it into the story yet.
I stopped watching 15 minutes into the video. I don't want to find out what the One Piece is as of yet. The similarities discussed are too uncanny. The video is just too accurate. I am just going to wait 3-4 years and let Oda suprise me, because reading the chapter in which the One Piece is revealed is going to be one of the greatest moments in my life, and I don't want to go into the chapter(and the last arc) knowing how everything will unfold. Much respect for all your hardwork! Keep it up!
Pretty strange as a french that we havevnever realized that, this show is pretty popular and known, even among the younger ones here. Make me wanna hear the french op of this an anime
I'm not very surprised, and I do not think Oda expected anyone to figure out where he got his ideas from. I mean it was a very old underseen anime. Good work. 👏😅
Shiki might have been the first one to fly tbh. But that would be sick if the sunny is used for something big at the end. Like if franky lowkey built it into a semi pluton.
This was a phenomenon when I was a kid (early 90s) I still remember everything about the show, especially the opening music, 30 years later. Oda was most likely inspired by it, at least by the spirit of exploration and wonder. Thanks for this video.
You forgot about the World Economic journal headquarters, which is a blimp that Morgans uses to move around. Hence flight is already here in the OP world.
I also want to highlight a point that luffy has a dream which obviously not yet disclosed but all other straw hats were shocked and happy at the same time when they listened luffy's dream they even told for achieving that you have to become pirates king maybe his dream is make a new kingdom where everyone, every race , every status can live freely and happily, govt can't interfere for that he really has to be strongest means king of pirates also In recent chapters scenario is like straw hats are completely surrounded by marines and warships there is no way they can escape by any means also all the Saturn summoned all other gorosie which straw hats can't fight on their own so there must be a way by which they can escape maybe a flying technology
I’ve seen plenty of theories I think you’re spot on with this one. Now all we have to do is watch and see how he’s really going to make it out. 1:15:32
HOLY SHIT I just had a revalation about Luffy's strawhat and why its his symbol. @35:32 when you are talking about the dawn and showing luffy's hat to the right, Look at the hat specifically and think the word "Dawn" , looking at the hat from that perspective, the bottom of the hat looks like a sandy beach. The red was used as the band of the hat on purpose! If you think of the band looking like a SUN. It looks exactly like a hazy sun rising on the horizon in the morning! above that looks like a golden pre-dawn sky! I think this heavily hints at and cements his title of "Bringer of the Dawn" or "sungod nika" ALSO! Luffy if from the Goa Kingdom which is located on "DAWN" island.
Lucky for you, I do speak Spanish, and I've watched the other video as well as Esteban, Child of the Sun. Yes, it's possible Oda did watch this anime and took inspiration from it, but nothing that's presented in Esteban, Child of the Sun, is exclusive to the series. From the Lost Continent of Mu, sunk in the Pacific Ocean, and whose inhabitants created the Egyptian and South and Mesoamerican Pyramids and Ziggurats (and the Moai in Easter Island), who according to other legend were aliens, (and it's a cousin sunken continent to Atlantis in the Atlantic surprisingly, and to Lemuria in the Indian Ocean) to taking the Amazons out of the Greek Themiscyra and into the actual Amazon Jungle who they share a name with, from Inti as the Sun in El Dorado in the Amazon jungle, that might also have been created by aliens, but in truth was just Orellana's greed driving him away from sanity, to mythological serpents left and right starting with Quetzalcóatl (who is also the Sun, btw), all this elements have been used in adventure fiction a gazillion times and a half. They are all myths and legends that have existed for centuries As for things like "The New World", One Piece takes heavy inspiration in European Pirates sailing in the Caribbean sea, and explorers like Magellan (or Magalhães, his actual last name) sailing to The New World (and dying while trying the first circumnavigation of the globe, for the trip to be finished under Elcano's leadership). 4 points to find an exact place is an old navigation trick, it's nothing new, nor was it invented by Esteban or One Piece BTW, Machu Picchu is NOT a mountain. Please google it The only things that I don't know other examples of are the figureheads of the ships, specially the goat/sheep (a lion makes more sense)
You are very knowledgeable but you fail to see the fact that Oda had confirmed to have watched that series AND decided to add elements that are very similar to this story. If this was indeed one of his favorite series as a kid, then it be more surprising if he did not add SOME parallels. He added MANY, too many to be a coincidence. I think as an artist/author he will not copy an ending from another artist. However it will probably parallel big plot points, theoretically is more possible since it has already happened in the story, and continues even as we gather more information.
The final the Golden poneglyph will tell a story of the great kingdom with characters & events that sound exactly like the current story of Luffy & all of the one piece adventures. It might show that there is a cycle / story that is constantly repeating over & over again.
The Beatles Teased One Piece's ending since 1969 with their song "Sun King" XD : Here Comes the Sun King x2 Everybody is laughing Everybody is happy Then the song ends with them singing lines in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, and the drumming in the song was just....👌👌 John Lennon was a true Joyboy! Thank you for the amazing video, and I'm glad you mentioned Laputa as well! (fun fact: Pazu in Laputa was voiced by Luffy's VA)
My parent watched that show back then and told me about it. I got curious, that they even watched anime in the first place and gave it a watch myself, a few years ago. I got surprised as a One Piece fan, as i saw the similarities and thought it was pretty cool, but didn't know Oda watched it xD
I have texted 333vil about this theory on Twitter a long time ago...he responded...but didn't made video on it....and here you are with this colossal project... deeply explaining everything ❤ Great work dude 👍
I feel like the final war will involve every single person ever introduced in one piece. Probably Morgans will broadcast the final location and everyone who watched or heard either wants to help luffy or just go to the final island for themselves.
At that time he finally won't have to hide anymore, no more pretending to be weak, yes he will split the sky and conquer all, yes finally, WOOPSLAP WILL MAKE HIS MOVE! Can't wait!
Theory: The “D” stands for Dawn, as in Romance Dawn, as in “Fly the flag that heralds the world’s eventual Dawn.” The will of the D. is the will of those who will usher in the Dawn of the New Age, ushered in by the Sun God, Nika! It is no coincidence that Luffy hails from Dawn Island, and that he ate the Hito hito no mi, model Nika on Dawn Island!
Awesome video I love how you connected all the dots I also thought the anime The Mysterious Cities of Gold and one piece was some how related since the only time I heard about golden cities in my child hood was in that anime I also watched it as a kid in the French version I mostly watched the remake version but also the original since my parents watched it during their child hood and I thought it was kinda funny how Skypiea had the same concept but the thing is that I didn't know ODA was inspired by it. I also love the connections you did with the Anunnakis since I also thought of that and I often talked about it to some of my relatives on how ODA brings a similar concept maybe you should do more research on that and by the way I don't think the flame energy is solar energy but rather fusion energy you know that energy everyone nowdays promises it would bring like unlimited energy Fusion energy is also the energy that fuels the Sun and I think it's also said to be a more cleaner energy than nuclear energy I think that instead of breaking an Atom apart like nuclear energy people suggest that we fuse Hydrogen atoms to have more energy and it being cleaner I think some people mentioned it doesn't give off radiation unlike nuclear but I still need to make some research on that and one of the most important part is that fusion energy can be used as a bomb far more dangerous than nuclear and this could be related to some ancient weapons or how IMU wiped so much history anyways I love all the research you did keep it up🔥
In the latin comunity we've known about this for several years, but, although its similar, its clearly not the same. One Piece is One Piece, original, and unique. I don’t remember if you said this in the video but I’m watching the series and I noticed that the Solaris ship was inside of walls of one of the islands. Similar to how pluton will be revealed once Wano’s border is open. This can’t be a coincidence😭😭
Nice vid, i grew up watching this anime in French it was known as 'Les Mysterieuses Cite D'or' and fumny thing is since this was the early 90s i didnt yet know the difference between a 'cartoon' vs an anime but it turned out i had loved anime before i ever knew what it was. The crazy thing for me is that i've always found many of these similarities with it and One Piece i just never really thought much of it but now finding out Oda used to love this anime it all makes sense. P.s. its been remade in the last few years by a french tv channel with updated more 3D lookin style and theres a few seasons now, they end up going to China, Japan, India.
I remember seeing parts of Esteban many years ago. Great analysis. Personally, I think Oda (and other mangaka) has a dogged ear copy of The Compendium of the Emerald Tablets by Billy Carson. It's popular in Japan. Billy has said that Amazon told him to get the book translated and I'm pretty sure Japanese is the language or one of them that they wanted.
The tekking on shrooms joke had me rolling, also good looks on this anime. I haven't watched but people say the castle in the sky is similar and could have given inspiration.
Vivi is also a D. but it is implied she started the rain fall to end the alabasta Civil war, not stop the rain. The ice continent has gold deep under the water/ice seen in Chin jao's flash back breaking the ice to reveal a gold stash.
Very awesome find! Also nobody can deny that Oda was inspired by teh "Xanth" Book Series! Especially when you see the Mian Character and the Imu Version in the Book...
Wait is esteban's Father going to be like gold Rogers since gold Rodger is waiting for a certain pirate or whatever. And we know gold Rogers son Ace was the guy who everyone thought was going to be the pirate king
@@MARSHALLDPREACH i think changing it would be hard since a lot of the crumbs had been laid out already. But it could definitely be tweaked! I think that old anime already show where most of the inspiration came from. Thanks for the video!
Oda already said a few years back even if somebody were to crack the secret he can't change it anymore because the end has already been written and to change it would be impossible because there is not enough time (now there is even less time).

When you talk about the ships it made me thing that the 3th ship will have something to do with a Griffin, The thousand sunny(Lion) + Flying(bird) = Griffin
I feel that Luffy’s mother was killed by a celestial dragon and that’s why Dragon started the resistance. Interesting video makes me want to watch that old anime. Be interesting to watch this again in another 5 years.
Nah, Luffy's mother does not have anything to do with Dragon's motivation to rebel against the WG. If it were, the Revolutionary Army would be much much younger
Tom’s philosophy wasn’t just to create just to create it was to be able to create weapons and technology for others to level the playing field against people like the world government.
I really really like this Atlantis reference. I loved the Disney movie. There's already signs that Laugh Tale must be under the ocean. What if it was the Ancient Kingdom. I hope Oda does tie it into Atlantis legend in some way. If that weapon of the sun was really dangerous it could justify the original existence of the Gorosei, who were once part of Joyboy's crew sent to protect it, until its revealed that they were traitors and working for Imu all along.
I also think laugh tale might be under the ocean, either it's in an island whale like Laboon making it mobile and hard to find or alternatively the entire kingdom is sunk somewhere, also might explain why Raleigh is good at coating ships.
Kinda like how they started the journey at the grand line with Laboon to mirror the end of the journey with another Island whale. Just let me cook lol.@@Snoop_Dugg
My guess for the remaining 3 "golden cities": Old Alabasta, a place somewhere in Elbaf and Fishmen Island. Long version/explaination: If your conclusions are true, then the capital of Alabasta was probably also a "golden city" at some point, esp. since it got massive underground ruins, a poneglyph - and with that also a connection to Wano. Other possible places: A place somewhere in Elbaf due to the association of wikings with gold, giants with the ancient kingdom, and there being a road poneglyph. Another candidate would be Fishmen Island, since that's underground/underwater aswell, bears connections to the ancient kingdom not only through a poneglyph, but also through that huge-ass arc that Luffy nearly punched into tiny pieces - and it has some architecture that's seemingly a bit out of place (the palast, which due to its design, isn't rooted in modern fishmen culture - the dragon statue on top of it looks to be the similar to the one Ace destroyed in Wano when fighting Yamato. It was explicitly stated that that statue did not depict Kaido and was much older). With the locations you already mentioned, and assuming that there won't be coming that many new places anymore, due to OP nearing its finale, that would make it 7. God Valley would be an option aswell, but that's a guess without anything backing it up (except for the place being described as having been prosperous and rich in resources) at best.
Great video thank you. Esteban is a childhood classic (french). I got into One Piece last year and went back to Esteban soon after. The similarities were insane. I'd like to add how we saw a devil in the Magellan Strait, the government is an enemy, Esteban's power is sun and 'smile' related, hi-tech lab hidden in a tall mountain with a weird circular cloud on top, and Mendoza is a mix with Shanks AND Namie (hot navigator, gold driven, traitor but comes back around) aaah it doesn't stop!
Maybe Tao pushing Esteban off that cliff can be compared to Usopp leaving the crew? That might have a meaning during the anime that hasn't been said in this video or looked over.
wait.. immense kingdom? sink to the ocean? first part of grandline called paradise, the second half is called new world? dude. what if grand line used to be continent? first half is continent of Muu and second part is Joyboy's Atlantis continent?
I like the flying ship for later. It lets the strawhats get around to places quicker. Things have been kinda controlled by the navigation. Maybe they can get viva cards for their friends to navigate by. They already did it with the minks. That way you can set up more wide ranging plots that the strawhats could reasonably respond to.
This is so good! I always thought that the Great kingdom in One Piece was inspired by "The Lost City of Arkadia" in "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea". This is also a French anime that came out at the same time and with a similar art style and it looks like the two shows always played one after another. I feel like it's under Reverse Mountain which is causing the water to flow up.

Also the world itself seems shattered, the way the world is does feel like some massive war almost destroyed the world
So as a way to avoid it happening again, the world government makes sure that they will never reach that point, basically making illegal anything that could lead to a “nuclear” war.

Yeah idk why so many people say she is
I think a good candidate for our "Golden Mask Exposition Guy" is actually...Binks...of Bink's Sake fame.
But, maybe that's hinting at there being two ancient kingdoms instead?
while it would be awesome to see binks in the story, unfortunately the sake fruit already exists and belongs to vasco shot.

Shiki might have been the first one to fly tbh. But that would be sick if the sunny is used for something big at the end. Like if franky lowkey built it into a semi pluton.
I think we have enough info now, to get the general idea of what's going to happen.
This was a phenomenon when I was a kid (early 90s) I still remember everything about the show, especially the opening music, 30 years later. Oda was most likely inspired by it, at least by the spirit of exploration and wonder. Thanks for this video.

I used to watch this as a kid, but I haven't remembered until I watched this video lol...great theory once again!
Thank you! It’s a really underrated show. I never even heard of it before making this video
I think this heavily hints at and cements his title of "Bringer of the Dawn" or "sungod nika"
ALSO!
They are all myths and legends that have existed for centuries
As for things like "The New World", One Piece takes heavy inspiration in European Pirates sailing in the Caribbean sea, and explorers like Magellan (or Magalhães, his actual last name) sailing to The New World (and dying while trying the first circumnavigation of the globe, for the trip to be finished under Elcano's leadership). 4 points to find an exact place is an old navigation trick, it's nothing new, nor was it invented by Esteban or One Piece
BTW, Machu Picchu is NOT a mountain. Please google it
The only things that I don't know other examples of are the figureheads of the ships, specially the goat/sheep (a lion makes more sense)

It is no coincidence that Luffy hails from Dawn Island, and that he ate the Hito hito no mi, model Nika on Dawn Island!

and one piece was some how related since the only time I heard about golden cities in my child hood was in that anime I also watched it as a kid in the French version I mostly watched the remake version but also the original since my parents watched it during their child hood and I thought it was kinda funny how Skypiea had the same concept but the thing is that I didn't know ODA was inspired by it.

My guess for the remaining 3 "golden cities": Old Alabasta, a place somewhere in Elbaf and Fishmen Island. Long version/explaination:
If your conclusions are true, then the capital of Alabasta was probably also a "golden city" at some point, esp. since it got massive underground ruins, a poneglyph - and with that also a connection to Wano.
Alabasta is a good one! And God Valley could also be a solid option

I really like this video. I got a lot ideas for theories on how story could unravel in future.
God's valley prob just got the name because the God's Knights have their hunts there
Could be, but it seems it was something even prior to that when they say what's so special about it that they call it god valley
i can’t believe this idea isn’t more popular. i feel like after watching this video im completely convinced this “theory” is true.
