    I raced professional motocross in the 1970’s. If you have a long straightaway that is when horsepower is king. On everything else it’s the rider. Great bike for the price. Still miss all the European bikes of the 70’s. Bultaco, Maico, CZ, Jawa, Penton, Puch, and Husky still lives. I raced Montesa 125 and CZ 400.

    Because this motor was stroke to a 112 that means that there's room to bore work with the Athena 112 top end on it and you get a 124 CC 2-stroke

    I just bought this bike. I see the washers to raise the handlebars are supposed to go above, not below. At 6'6", it's a wee bit small. I got bar risers on the way and will lower footpegs later. I went in for a 140F, came out with this fun ripper! It's basically a 125!

    Up here in the North East, big wheels are in Super Mini only, but 85's can race the Supermini's, my 12 year old races them on his 2022 KX85, and just took 4th oveall this weekend out of 21 kids in the Supermini class, the 2022 KX112 won it again, and will win the Championship here probably.

      why don't yamaha rework the banshee to meet emissions standards of today?

    • @josefrobbins8781
      @josefrobbins8781 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@TheMegatron673 Aight...there's a whole other worldly problem to your question.
      1. THE EMISSION PROBLEM: As we speak, the reality that 2 strokes exist in the market is a complete anomaly.
      EU7 is slowly being implemented, and America's EPA just doesn't allow for 2 stroke manufacturing in motorcycles unless they pay off the so called smog tax. In the next coming years, 2 strokes let alone 4 strokes won't be an option.
      3. THE TUNER PROBLEM: Almost all 2 Strokes that are being manufactured above 250cc have EFI equipped through port, or direct injection. The reason the Banshee was popular was due to their simplicity. By compromising to emission standards, you might end up with a refined 2 stroke that runs pretty good and is pretty efficient...but completely ruins the opportunity for the buyer to work/tune his rig at home, and leaves even fewer options for aftermarket. No more Cheetah Jugs like the old days.
      4. NO MONEY TO BE MADE: The Banshee while being one of the Top 3 best sport quads ever created, and one of Yamaha's best sellers in the past...would not do good in todays market. The Banshee was a product of it's time, because the Sport quad market was killed off by the 4x4 ATV's, then were finished off by UTV's or Side by Sides which is what everybody wants these days. Yamaha is the last manufacture of the Sport Quad, and they're losing money keeping them on their roster. Heck, the Raptor 700 outsells the YFZ450. Besides, the sport quad has become a specialized item that only a certain group buys. To better put it into perspective, the Banshee wouldn't be considered apart of the "Sport Quad" market, but the "2 Stroke Sport Quad Market"

    The KX100 was my first Dirt Bike, i started riding at 14 and grew (a little lol) but the complaints they claimed i could relate cockpit is so damn cramped, you have to give a lot of throttle its scary when it was your first time especially on a stroke.
    took me a good few rides on trails and on track kinda to get good. its the most fun you can have though especially catching people on bigger 4 strokes.
    but its time to give that bike a rest, 2 years ago i tried a yz125 and felt comfy with bigger cockpit and responsive throttle. that was the last time i rode until i went to glamis to once again fire up the 100.
    next bike is tough to choose...
    a 350 4 stroke or 300 2 stroke..

    We own both, KX112 and 2021 KTM 85 (17/14) and the differences are huge, as a parent i was trying the cheaper route out by purchasing the KX112 for his next level of racing but after upgrading the Handlebars/clamps, foot-pegs, front/rear springs and even rear sprocket (gearing) my son still gravitates to his KTM, endless discussions about how better it feels (body positioning) and horsepower, last weekend at our local race event he placed 8th on the KTM and 27th on the Kawi, cam off the track upset about the bike and therefore it for sale in our local Kijiji ad here in Canada where we live, i understand the comments about how some people say "the kids seem spoiled" as i grew up sharing a 1979 Yamaha GT 80cc, but its true KTM, Husky & Gas Gas have us by the balls, the frame on our 112 looks to be welded by a kid, disc brakes, rear swingarm and a few other parts are lacking, these kid test riders couldn't be More right with their testing reviews.

      I’ve raced all 85’s and it is safe to say that KTM takes the cake. The ultimate race bike for a kid. Even when bought “stock” from the dealership it comes loaded with better parts. I have pulled more hole shots on the ktm 85 than I did with all other 85’s combined

    Hi, i’m an adult 5’9 weigh about 150 pounds. I want a bike that I can easily manhandle and bail from if I need to. Don’t wanna bike that I have to really reach to get on and off of. Want to be able to go around trees and landscapes without any problem of a heavy big bike? My question is though, will this kind of bike have enough power to get me up a nice steep hill if I ever want to do any mountain climbing. Thanx

    After you get past the first 9 minutes of " it's not a ktm" they actually talked about the kawi.
    Seems every introduction, rest and review at MXA, not matter what bike, Is 3/4's " ITS NOT A KTM" and 1/4 about the actual bike they're focused on at the moment.
    Whats the point of having the shoot outs? If you listen to the introduction, test and review of what ever the focus bike is.. They're already telling you the out come of the shoot out. Wasted pages, ink and time if you ask us.
    All bike reviews are specifically for racers, wich is fine I get it...what we don't like is the "if you're not a pro, your bike sucks" narritive.

    People its the same frame and suspension since late 90s. This is a "revised" 100 engine meaning same dang thing just updated. Suspension is 2000 tech and engine is 90s tech. Its not snobbery liking ktm over this for racing because the ktm is LIGHTYEARS ahead of the jap minis in EVERY way. Dont be mad because the Japanese brands rebadge same crap and ask more money while ktm actually makes REAL changes to their line up in regular intervals. For play riding any bike is good. For racing you literally are at a huge disadvantage choosing anything but ktm in the mini classes

    • @akustaka
      @akustaka ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes but it also has a lot to do with the compression of the engine, the gearing the rider is using, the suspension geometry, and the track conditions. But you also need to remember that the ktm after markup and tax is around 2500 more than the kawasaki on average and has much more rigorous maintenance scheduling. KTM has a pedigree of being the absolute best in terms of raw performance if rider skill is not taken into account, but that performance comes at a cost of faster wear on the motor due to tighter tolerances. ALSO something else to keep in mind too that I didn't hear them mention in the video is that KTM in the LONG RUN will cost MORE to maintain, not ONLY because of the faster maintenance intervals, but because of that KTM tax where the same piston for the 112 is about 20% cheaper. It really just depends on your use case and how seriously you take yourself/your kid, if you want the kid to have a vehicle that performs like an INDY car, the top of the line best you can get, you need to understand it will have the same level and detail of care required where as the Kawasaki is the every-day race bike that you don't feel bad about crashing or beating on.
