Say what you want about Lena but she captured the warm chaos of being early to mid 20’s in this city and the way you lean on friends when you need it most. It’s a beautiful scene
@@kitsch_bitch When Hannah had to write a book of essays in one day and was hiding behind her bed in season 3 and Marnie was looking for her she saw that was the only sentence written in her word doc
@@sallysmith7242 As someone whose most favorite shows are along the lines of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and Fargo, I would attest to the argument that as many cringe-worthy and preposterous moments that Girls offered, it left behind a few moments of all-time greats such as this one. It was made more impactful because you couldn't see it coming; Dunham's that kind of a bipolar creator. I came to this video after seeing that Robin's Body Talk album containing this song was listed on Rolling Stone's Best Albums of the 2010s, and it's been as long as this episodes's aired the first time since I watched this clip. And I swear not this got me holding my breath more that I was expecting.
I can't even express how moving this scene is to me. Sometimes it's either sob uncontrollably, or turn on "your" song and just dance around the room. I've been there so many times. I just absolutely adore this.
Lena Dunham is pretty damn talented, I honestly think it's hard to dispute that this scene is NOT Art. It's sad, yet so so inspiring, so well conceived and put together. I think that woman is a very talented, writer, director, actress. I came pretty close to having a friend that I could dork around like this without shame, it happens very rarely in this life.
Makes me miss living in my 20's in new york city with my friends just loving life and comming home to my friends just doing stupid shit!! Ahhh miss those days
I don't know what it is about this scene. The whole series is awesome and it has very good ones but for some reason, if I was asked to pick a favorite, it'd be these 3mins. I love it.
Yeah. I guess you're right. But I also think if they weren't mean to each other all the time, we wouldn't appreciate these kind of scenes as much. It was well done. Everything fits perfectly: their acting, the music, the placement...
I couldn't get over the genius of this scene. They captured so many emotions (yes, girls do feel a wide range of emotions at once) into a stupid dance sequence that was too familiar to my life to not (almost) cry. I can't tell you how many times I have been at my wit's end just to turn on Robyn or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and dance my feelings out.
Many people say they don't know what it is with this scene that makes them love it. Let me tell you. It's the face Hannah makes when sees Marnie. It's like she's screaming loudly at a concert but she's all quiet. That's so god damn real and I haven't seen it on cinema ever before
Thank you I was clueless after this clip cause I couldn't place the context with the scene. I def got that 80s vibe of let's dance our cares away for now I'm so glad to have you riding for me. Just couldn't see how it was widely considered the best/most fav scene of the series. Being not a fan (can't u tell?) had curiosity peaked plus no HBO lol
The exact moment you fall in love with this show and realize this is something special. I don’t think I’ll ever match the feeling of watching this at 23 for the first time. Pretty sure my jaw was open when the credits hit lol
this has got to my single one most favorite "GIRLS" scene. the power of girfriends. close second: when jessa pushes that top less girl out of the fucking way at that party
One of my favorite scenes from Girls, perfectly illustrates true deep friendship, with shit happening you just have to dance to a banging tune, and your soul sister will come in and immediately be right there dancing with you.
This show does a great job of capturing what it feels like to sing along, dance along to music better than any other. The Wonderwall scene, this one.. there have been loads. x
I thought you were going to say being twenty something trying to make in a world where you've been taught your special your entire life and them come to find out you and everyone else have that in common.
i love hannahs awkward dancing while marnie has this sexy dancing thing because she cant help it shes marnie haha. loved that scene and especially loved the look on hannahs face when she discovers that marnie is watching her. everyone else might have been ashamed like omg sorry you had to see this but not hannah horvath!
This scene is perfection! ❤️ It reminds me of a turbulent, wild yet essentially care-free and fun time of my life, when my female friends were my everything!
this show was about a bunch of women who were ultimately toxic for eachother. this is not a story about beatifyl friendship. however, it does show that sometimes shitty friendships every now and then can have beautiful moments. and that’s why we cling on to them for so long.
crazy fkr like 2-3 years, “girls” was one of the best shows on tv, this was def a major moment. sundays were fun with the girls and lena knew what she was doing.
That hug at the end just kills me :') I miss Marnie and Hannah's friendship so much! Hopefully next season we'll see some sort of reunion with these two
Great scene, my favorite moment from Girls. And thank you for letting the song play out over the credits! A lot of times when there's an awesome musical ending to tv episodes, people often chop it off when the credits appear. Just as you're still grooving to the song. Anyway, thanks!
Agree and same. The people who are with you during those times are connected to us forever. And it is devastating when you grow apart, much more so than a romantic breakup it seems.
I just got done watching tonite's amazing episode 5x06, "The Panic in Central Park" that reunited Marnie & Charlie. And now I'm watching this clip from season 1; the only season where Marnie's character was written to show any sort of warmth and friendliness towards anyone. She has been so one-dimensional these past few seasons--mean, snarky and narcissistic. I hope tonite's episode will be a breakthrough and the return to THIS Marnie.
i love how realistic this is, this is what girls do, you put a load of stuff about yourself on the internet and get depressed and then a nice song comes on and you dance to it and feel better. my friends who are boys can't understand that girls can feel two things at once.
I lived with a friend in a big city for seven years during our early twenties when we were young, stressed, and confused. We would have dance parties like a lot. I think its difficult to truly capture how that feels, but this scene did ❤
Awe that bittersweet heartbreak then the girl power to put one foot in front of the other as you dance though life it’s perfection and reality in one scene I remember it all these years later
Say what you want about Lena but she captured the warm chaos of being early to mid 20’s in this city and the way you lean on friends when you need it most. It’s a beautiful scene
THAT'S RIGHT. Haters can make a show that encapsulates the confusion and romanticism of your 20s. I'll wait
Definitely! This shows first few seasons nailed right out of college and not sure what I’m going to do with my life
The whole 20s for me boo
Amen
I agree, she also captured how life can be cruel and friends be difficult and distant when you need them. Something most of the tv shows omit.
The scene that made us all fall in love with 'Girls'.
Definitely.

Season 1 of girls was so strong and the end of this episode introduced me this Robyn track and i fell in love with the series even more.

Very different show now. Was so much better back then.
This song made this episode complete. Perfect score. Thanks for posting!

It’s weird - and sad - to watch this scene now, given where Hannah and Marnie are in their relationship as of Season 3’s Beach House.
