Rich and Ewa in the early summer of 2023 I motorcycled from Devon to Poland where I wanted to pay my respects at Auschwitz, Birkenau. Then I went on to Sobibor, followed by Treblinka. I am so grateful that the Polish people have continued to keep the memorials so accessible to everyone. I strongly feel that the world would be a better place if everyone spent some time visiting them and considering mans inhumanity to man. It was great to see you riding some of the same roads as I did on my solo trip last year (aged 69 then). Keep posting you two.

A very sobering and thought provoking video guys. I’ve been there and also to the killing fields in Cambodia. Both had me close to tears at man’s inhumanity to man. We will ever learn, unfortunately I don’t think so. On a more positive note, the jar of pork dripping you had would up here in Yorkshire be spread on bread and called a “ mucky fat sandwich “. I assume the wooden structure is to shoot at the pidgins and stop them eating the corn. You are doing some brilliant work guys thank you. I think we in the UK just rush about too much and need to slow down, that’s why there’s so much road rage etc. Put the “ thank you” towards your accommodation 👍
You are spot on, we have realised that life in the uk is too fast, we are all encouraged to buy things we don’t need, work til we drop to pay for it. We eat on the go, and stress ourselves because there is never time… Yet time is the most precious thing we have, it’s up to us to choose to spend it wisely
You are right Ewa the film Escape from Sobibor is very good and stars the late great Alan Arkin and Rutger Hauter. I have watched it several times on dvd. There is a Russian film Sobibor, 2018, filmed Lithuania and in several languages- German, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Yiddish. I have not seen it yet but am thinking of getting the dvd. If you are ever in Frankfurt there is a Jewish Museum next to the river. It is several houses made into one. Along the upper corridor there is a stainless steel monument with all the names of the Jewish people living in Frankfurt before WWII, besides some of the names there was a red dot. They were names of those who died in the camps. While I was looking at this list an elderly lady and a young girl came to see it too. The young girl was obviously American and the elderly lady had a very heavily accented American accent. She started pointing out some of the names to the young girl. Saying this was your great aunt she died in the camp, these are your cousins who died in the camp. The list went on - it was heart breaking. I moved away because it was obviously a very private, emotional time for them. Also I began to cry because for me this was history for them it was family.
Hey guys the fire brigade look after the stalks nest so they don't catch fire, sometimes destroying the nest and making a steel cage to sit on top of the poles and then rebuilding the nests with sticks and bushes 👋🤠👍

Hello, Good to have you visiting Poland. I've to mention an important fact. At the time of those horros were made by Germans there was no such thing as WW2 Poland. Poland. In 1939 was erased from the maps. It was splited between two alied evil totalitarism: Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia.
we went to Germany Poland and Ukraine and Russia over 6 weeks in 1997 it was an eye opener to us all my late partner was in tears me to it was shocking beyond Russia welcomed us with open arms there vodka was so strong made us sleep well the beer was nice to john
Felt the same way when we visited The Bridge on the River Kwai in Thailand. Such a beautiful spot & all those graves of the men forced to work on the railway. To them it was probably hell. Now everything has changed. Still had a sacred feel to it, felt like we were trespassing, but you have to read the sayings on the grave markers, brought tears to our eyes. As we rode away, could not stop thinking about all those young men that died for building a railroad that is now used by tourists.
Wow now thats somewhere i would like to go too. How did you find Thailand? Did you see many snakes? How is finding acommadation as you travel? Any top tips for travelling in Thailand?
@ontheroadadventure Stumbled on Thailand on my way to Bali way back in 1993. Changed my life. Been going back every year since. Retired in 2000 & started spending 5 months in Thailand, November thru March, the rest of the time back in the USA. YES, do go check it out. You need at least a month, now you can stay 2 months just with a passport. Fly into Bangkok, spend 3 or 4 days. Fly down to the south, Krabi is a good place to start. Pick a small bike to check the area & over to Phuket. Fly up to Chiang Mai, this is where the riding gets good. 2 weeks will let you see some of the best riding. We have a condo in CM, so have been on all the great roads. We have a 2016 Honda CBR300R, that takes us everywhere. Plenty of bikes to rent in Chiang Mai. A Honda CB500X would be the best choice, depending on the exchange rate, probably will cost $32.00 a day with top case. No need to camp, lots of small mom & pop places to stay, $20 to $30 a nite. The $5.00 a nite places are long gone. Warning, it does get very smoky up north starting middle of March until the raining season starts in June. Yes, there are snakes, at nite if you have to use the toilet, look before you sit. When you get serious about going, let me know (through your TH-cam) will pass on all the mistakes I made. The best advice I got about Thailand is "you just have to show up"!!!
@ontheroadadventure Sent you a long message, but disappeared. Been going there for the last 30 years. Great riding up north. Go for a least a month. Fly between places you want to ride & rent bikes in the south & north. Still very affordable. Let me know when you start planning your trip. Best advice I got on Thailand is"just show up"!
Can you find us on FB and message us as its easier to find you and communicate, We are seriously considering it! The Snakes are a concern though! Ewa Just googled how many Deaths a year in Thailand are a result of snake bites, 2500 is the answer Just short of 8 a day!! Thats some statistic lol
Good content as usual, the last campsite was strange as no one else booked in, least it will be peaceful. The extermination camps show that Humans must be the most cruel animal on the planet, I went to Auschwitz and it is a life changing experience.
23:53 The most famous Calvary in Poland is near Krakow in the town of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. It was built in the 17th century and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The nobleman responsible for its construction sent an architect to the Holy Land to measure the distances between the stations of the Passion of Jesus and placed chapels in the area at the same distances. Foreign tourists are rarely seen there, although I think the sites are worth seeing. The oldest wooden church in Poland is near Nowy Targ in the village of Dębno. It dates back to the 15th century (the time of the discovery of America) and to visit it you have to go to the rectory next door so that the priest can open it and turn on the device telling the history of this place in English. It is also a class 0 and UNESCO monument

Everyone should visit one of the camps at least once in their life. I went to Dachau, and Auschwitz. I couldn't go again. Just horrific and made me feel sick. But he who ignores history doesn't learn from it. Have to agree about the overtaking in Poland, too. Watch yiur mirrors as much as ahead, and keep to the right. But i do like Poland. A lot. Ride safe 👍
We went to Dauchau and Buchenvald and stayed overnight in their car park. That was really creepy and it reminded you all the time you were there of what went on. So horrific as it seemed the locals didn't know what was going on just down the road from their town.
Very poignant. I had a Polish friend who was raised not far from Sobibor. I found it very difficult listening when she talked about it. Good to see the storks get looked after!

Yes I think it is the Stations of the Cross which is what RC have in their churches and im sure they would parade around it at Easter. I love that the continent has so many religious remembrance. A pity we font have more in UK.
Brilliant episode, guys! By the way: Escape From Sobibor is a great film to watch if, like me, you are interested in the Second World War. I've been to several concentration camps, of which Auschwitz was the most impressive! As you said, Rich, it's hard to understand what people can do to each other. Frankly, I don't think much has changed since then.
Sadly I think history will repeat pretty sharpish once the demographic we cannot mention gets control of the UK. What a prize it will be for them. They hate the Jews. I feel so sad for Jewish people witnessing what is happening now in the UK and across Europe given WW2 and the Holocaust ended only 80 years ago. We must stand firm against them. I don't think many people even realise how close we are to history repeating itself. Our governments don't care all over Europe, except the Polish and Hungarian governments who are protecting their countries and citizens against mass immigration, the rise of Is slimmism and cultural vandalism. Dangerous times.
Yes its not just about the scenery either, Polands Economy is growing Rapidly within a few years the GDP will be higher in Poland than the uk, All us Brits will be going there to look for work lol

The fact you don't know something doeasn't mean it is secret. And honestly, saying "The Hidden Dark Secrets of Rural Poland are EVIL" - you suggesting that Poles had anything else to do in there, than dying. Well I didn't count, but I think you used word "german" just about once? Think about it, if others in UK knows as little as you about WWII, they could be misguided badly. Other than that good job :)

Hi you lovely couple. My interest was inspired originally by your Africa Twins, however, I have become very interested in your content and quality of filming. I do have a question ! There is on You Tube, from China, advertising Africa Twins HONDA XRV75 AFRICA TWIN RD04 CYLINDER COMP,RR 12110-MV1-000 (copied and pasted) for about £600 delivered, I am really sceptical about the honesty of this, as to buy a pucker Africa Twin is around £15000 and the second hand market is strong, I would appreciate some input, about this deal offered. Either way, great channel, I am subscribed and thumbs up .
@@ontheroadadventure If you go to TH-cam UK and search Africa Twin, you should see what I mean, it is not a video, it is an advert on the tube for Africa Twin, I realise it is not the best version available but to have one within budget, well I'd like that, I did question the price and was told "that is what they are selling them for"

wow what an amazing place Poland is 😍
Keep up the good work 👍
It really is amazing, We like touring Poland more than Expected. So much to see, interesting history and good grub
Lovely vid again 😊
Thank you!
Just loving watching you meander round Europe. So many other vloggers rush through countries with set agendas. Its so nice to see you not really having a plan and spending time exploring whatever comes your way including little shops. I have been to Auschwitz, Dachau but found Bergen-Belsen the most poignant as there's nothing there but heathland with mounds of earth covering mass graves and some memorials. Keep up the good work. Love you bye.
Thanks so much, We love the way we travel, it may be more casual than others but its our way.. We love so much that people enjoy the raw reality of our Motorcycle Travels
We would like to see it when we have some time soon
I've not been to Poland for long time but watching your adventure there brings the memories so I don't need to go this year anymore ;-)
Poland is proving to be a real highlight of the tour
Hey guys the fire brigade look after the stalks nest so they don't catch fire, sometimes destroying the nest and making a steel cage to sit on top of the poles and then rebuilding the nests with sticks and bushes 👋🤠👍
I think its awesome how they are looked after and loved by the local people too..
A very poignant episode, it looked so moving 😢 what a find of a campsite in the end. Brilliant as ever
Yes its so lucky dip with the campsites, we are learning to embrace it and its randomness
Hey guys I'm going to watch that film, there's about six films but you say escape from Sobibor ye.
Yes we want to watch it now, What a moving place Sobibor was, So much to see inside the museum, Each item so thought provoking
@@ontheroadadventure probably not the right words guys but I'm jealous ,never got round to getting to Poland ,maybe this year or early next ,looks great ,a great culture ye .,👋🤠👍
We have both really enjoyed touring in Poland, and could easily spend a couple months here, Choosing what to see has been the Tricky bit
Thanks for joining us, Yes you are right there
Brill vid and very sad..
Thanks bud, a hard place to visit but an important one
we went to Germany Poland and Ukraine and Russia over 6 weeks in 1997 it was an eye opener to us all my late partner was in tears me to it was shocking beyond Russia welcomed us with open arms there vodka was so strong made us sleep well the beer was nice to john
We often find the people in places that have little seem to be the most kind and welcoming
Thanks the Long message is here... Cheers for all the info we would love to learn more
Love going to Poland keep up the good adventures chicken snitzel bloody lovely
I have to say I really like the food here, often it feels like good quality home cooked food not fast food
Sleep tight! Love you, bye…😊🏍️🍺👍🇿🇦
Love you bye!
Yes i agree with others that the video footage of sobibor was the right amount but the video was bang on again all the content is interesting 😊
Thanks Debbie, it’s important to us to share these things but also to respect exactly what this is, it cannot be forgotten
Good content as usual, the last campsite was strange as no one else booked in, least it will be peaceful.
The extermination camps show that Humans must be the most cruel animal on the planet, I went to Auschwitz and it is a life changing experience.
It sure is, we will never forget Sobibor. Or the odd campsite, we have to say though we really liked it there
The wooden structure is a hunting platform - we have them here in the UK too.
For control of wild boar we have been told
Wow we would love to experience that, what a thing to see with our own eyes. Poland has so much to offer
@@ontheroadadventure I also suggest visiting the village of Lanckorona.
Thanks we will look it up
A sobering episode.
I don't know if you guys plan to go to Hel or not; I think the Baltic coast is lovely with fantastic beaches. But the water is Baltic 🥶
We are not sure, Poland has so much choice to see, we have more time here though so let’s see where we end up
Peope have time to sit becouse u are in very rural areas .Just check out cities and u will cutch different impresions .
People in the Rural areas must go to work and do the same things as everyone else, I guess we just notice and like the Slower pace of life
@@ontheroadadventure they have diferent character of work .I have moved from citie to the place without asphalt road and belive me I have experince .
I have always been a city boy, the older i get the more the slow rural life appeals
I love the polish Mash potatoes, and the schnitzel looked so tasty
They are very good with the Herbs and spices in Poland, nothing Tastes bland or boring... Meat and potatoes is heaven to the Englishman!
@@ontheroadadventure 1 thing I can't get used to is the sweet n sour sauce at the Chinese is served cold, not sure that's a Polish thing or just the 1 in Legionowo
No idea, we didnt try any chinese there
It’s a hunters tower for game
Ah that makes sense 👌
👌👌👌👏👏👏
Thanks Tony
Everyone should visit one of the camps at least once in their life. I went to Dachau, and Auschwitz. I couldn't go again. Just horrific and made me feel sick.
But he who ignores history doesn't learn from it.
Have to agree about the overtaking in Poland, too. Watch yiur mirrors as much as ahead, and keep to the right.
But i do like Poland. A lot.
Ride safe 👍
The camps are places like you say everyone should go to once but youll not want to or need to see it again to remember. Shocking...
We went to Dauchau and Buchenvald and stayed overnight in their car park. That was really creepy and it reminded you all the time you were there of what went on. So horrific as it seemed the locals didn't know what was going on just down the road from their town.
They must have known, but too fearful to speak up i guess?
Very poignant. I had a Polish friend who was raised not far from Sobibor. I found it very difficult listening when she talked about it.
Good to see the storks get looked after!
Hi Bib! Hope you have been on some bank holiday adventure? Sobibor was a moving place, really makes you think about your own life and how lucky we all are to not have to endure this sort of thing...
@@ontheroadadventure Hard to believe such atrocities happened so recently too. Alas the weather here in England has been cr4p. Terrible storm with 70+mph winds, cold temperatures, rain. Typical bank holiday weather really....
Wow, the Great british summer never dissapoints
@@ontheroadadventure Tell me about it! I have only got Wednesday off work this week and the only day we have rain forecast is...Yep, you guessed it, Wednesday...(insert swearing emoji here)
Love your vlog's
Glad you like them!
I’ve been watching you guys now for a while , I’m not sure if anyone else as noticed? But Eva eats the majority of the food one for you and 3 for me , I was brought up sharing is caring and I would not except anything else than 50/50 , she seems she always as food on her mind , maybe she’s put him on a diet , who knows ? But where I’m from , I would never treat my man like that we are both equal and both need food
Im afraid you are very wrong on this one! Everything we have to the last item or Penny is OURS never mine or yours. Ewa could be accused of being a feeder but never selfish
Hey guys missed you, camel shite is good for elevating mosses too, how's it going, take care guys, stay safe.
Hey Cliff, Made me chuckle this... I dont fancy rubbing in the Camel Dung though!
Hey guys the strange noises is them big hedgehogs again 🤣. 👋🤠👍
Ahh yes, just harmless Hedgehogs
Keep on crocing 🏍
CROC ON!! Woohooo!
❤🙏🏻❤
Hi 👋
@@ontheroadadventure hi ya!
Yes I think it is the Stations of the Cross which is what RC have in their churches and im sure they would parade around it at Easter. I love that the continent has so many religious remembrance. A pity we font have more in UK.
Religion is huge in Poland, a massive part of the culture
👍
Cheers
Brilliant episode, guys! By the way: Escape From Sobibor is a great film to watch if, like me, you are interested in the Second World War. I've been to several concentration camps, of which Auschwitz was the most impressive! As you said, Rich, it's hard to understand what people can do to each other. Frankly, I don't think much has changed since then.
We will defo watch Sobibor when we get some time, The concentration camps are places youll never forget...
That tower was probably a spotting tower for shooting wild doar
Yeah it seems they need to control the population
Poland just keeps looking better and better. I can see why so many Poles have gone home now !
Yes its not just about the scenery either, Polands Economy is growing Rapidly within a few years the GDP will be higher in Poland than the uk, All us Brits will be going there to look for work lol
And be safer ! Crimes a lot lower in Poland than the uk
Well you both are making me want to go there
It looks like a peaceful place to visit . Well done again 👏
@@ontheroadadventure And for a safer better quality of life.
Yes this is True, People Generally feel much safer in Poland walking the streets and from Theft etc
The wooden tower is for shooting wild boar from. Ewa was right with her guess
Oh i see.... Looked a bit dodgy that one! Didnt fancy going up it
I lube my chain every 300 miles without fail Rich love the shirts want one ☝ hoping ride my self weather looking ok next week might be last one before she goes away for next year 😱
Hi, You can buy the shirts from our Buymeacoffee page, the links in the description of all the videos. What bike do you ride and where are you located? I cant imagine putting my bike away for winter. In the uk it gets pretty grim at times but if its ride in the cold rain or dont ride.... I have to ride
@@ontheroadadventure Rich I Ride triumph 1200 RS love her but wouldn't mined another for winter but have car enjoy motorcycle when weather good I work 7 days so is hard but run both
Yeah i hear you, i have had multiple bikes in the past and it feels like there is always expense to be met, and its hard to justify it all
Visited Bergen Belsen on our Germany trip this year & planning on Auschwitz & the Eagles Nest next year !
Thank you for taking the time to share your insights! History is complex, and I appreciate you adding to the conversation.
@ontheroadadventure I am only guest on your channel, checked a little more to have a bit better idea. A little unfortunate I have got to that episod first. Perhaps your little clickbait worked on me. I still think you would have better reception without it. But sure everyone may have own idea. Safe journey anyway. Some day I will have a look how you are doing. Good luck.
Thanks Paul, Can you share the video link I can’t open this or find what you mean.
👍
@@ontheroadadventure If you go to TH-cam UK and search Africa Twin, you should see what I mean, it is not a video, it is an advert on the tube for Africa Twin, I realise it is not the best version available but to have one within budget, well I'd like that, I did question the price and was told "that is what they are selling them for"
These last moments of Jesus are called the Way of the Cross - Droga Krzyżowa.
Oh ok thank you
