I wanted to add this in another post. If you don't mind me telling my journey with the birth control pill. I can pretty much guarantee your continued hair loss is the result of the birth control pill. I posted on this about a year or so ago when you did a video about your hair loss and mentioned taking the pill. I would like to, briefly, explain my experience. When I was in my mid-late 20s, because of a sudden change I experienced, the doc changed me to a stronger BC pill. My hair began to fall out quite a bit. All I had to do was barely run my fingers through a small area of hair and a half dozen or more strands would fall out. And the results would be the same if I ran my fingers through the same area, again. Needless to say, this scared me! When I told the doctor, he confirmed it was definitely the progesterone in the pill causing it, and he recommended I stop taking it for a few months. I decided to heed his advice. Let me tell you, I never felt better than I did after discontinuing the pill. I never went back on it! I learned natural family planning, and that's what I used until my husband's vasectomy after our 3rd and final child, the last 2 of which were planned, and I knew exactly when I got pregnant both times, and I determined their due dates. Even after I no longer needed to use natural family planning for birth control, I still used the methods to determine my monthly cycle. I was so glad to find a better method than flooding my body with synthetic hormones. In the end, you have to determine what is best for you. My journey was just mine. Everyone has different reasons for their choices. I wish you ALL the best of luck. I am so glad you're back healthy, again! Stay that way, because I love watching your videos! Sorry, this turned out longer than I had intended. 😊

I would love a bit of a deeper dive on using some of the Curlsmith colonizing products. I’m not quite sure how to use that Thickening Lotion. How much? (The small amount that dispenses confuses me!) Should I make sure it’s close to the root? Should I not use a creme too? Many many questions. 😊
Unrelated - I was at the salon yesterday so used some Aveda stylers - I used a cream, then a mousse instead of a gel and I am SHOCKED at how curly my hair is close to the root. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also will use a hairspray around the halfway mark if it feels like there's not enough hold. I find "wet" (AKA non aerosol) hairsprays work best on wet hair & aerosol sprays work best as a finishing product.

Great video, Gena!! Great tips! I love watching your videos! ❤ Currently, I'm, mostly, using Ouidad Vita Curl +, GelCream and Gel. My hair is naturally soft and thick, and because of this, I tend to use a bit more product, thinking I will get better hold. I've come to realize, softness and weight don't necessarily meld well together. The weight really tends to pull the curl flat at the root. Because of these factors, I've struggled to find products that won't overly stiffen my hair or weigh it down even more. It's probably mostly user error, though. But the Vita Curl + seems to work well. As long as I keep up my routine of using a detox shampoo every other time I wash my hair to mitigate our hard water, I get better root volume and it stays. Thanks a bunch for your videos!! They have helped me better understand my own hair journey!

Wow really informative video. Your hair looks really pretty. I use the Quidad gel and I’ve never had flaking. This time I thought I’d try the Cake mousse so I did apply a very light coat of Flora and Curl Activating Curl Lotion and then some Quidad Gel Advanced Climate Control Gel and then the Cake mousse. This is the second time I’ve used the Cake mousse and I didn’t get a lot of definition. I had to go back and wet my hair and add some more gel. I seemed to get better defined curls with the John Freida Mousse. Some people just love the Cake brand and I fell it because I liked the way it looked on someone else. Oh well.

Could you create a video showcasing various styling techniques for low-density hair using foams or mousse in combination with gel? I'm particularly interested in understanding the steps involved, such as whether a leave-in conditioner is necessary, and the proper incorporation of gel. It seems there's a lack of information on this specific topic, and I want to ensure I'm styling my hair correctly.

I have been watching you for a long time. You have such beautiful hair and I’m sorry for what you’re going through. My hair looks like yours wet but dry it is less curly. Maybe it is still damaged from dying it a few years back. I don’t straighten it too much anymore but I wanted to give up this week on it. My hair needs length to curl. I can’t use sulfate free shampoo and I wonder if it’s from a very oily scalp and hard water together.

Hi there. You mentioned your birth control causing hair loss and I had the exact same issue when it switched to a new generic version. I unfortunately didnt realize it was the birth control till like 9 months later. I thought it was from another medication (Prednisone). Good luck on your health journey. My hair loss stopped a few weeks after stopping the birth control. I understand your sitch may prevent you from stopping but maybe the brand name or a different generic would work.
