- Jensen #20 GG steam plant
the GG stands for Generator / Governor
sits on an Oak plinth 14.5" X 17.5" , has a all copper functioning water tower that stands 9.5" X 3" OD flowing water through 1/4" brass tubing to a PMR water feed pump & continuous through a check valve & then into the boiler, the boiler has a pressure gauge in front. Steam then flows through the functioning governor & into the #20 steam engine. the engine is powering a specially modified generator that has roller ball bearings in each of the bearing towers, the original Jensen axle was replaced with a 4" axle & 2 4 tiered pulleys are on either end to act as a transmission. there is also an Wilesco transmission between the engine & generator. the chimney & support have been deleted (i thought they detracted from the water tower) an access door was made for the rear of the boiler firebox. the electrical cord goes through a tunnel in the base.
Only a couple of days ago, since i last speculated what you where working on...and then this comes up :-)
A great looking and quite advanced plant you´ve built there, very well done Bruce !
Thanks Jan !
Magnificent Bruce. You have been busy! I hope you make it to NAMES.
Thanks Charlie, I am seriously considering going to names this year.....we'll see I guess.
Nice job Bruce! That is the Best Model steam plat I have seen , it lookes so much better than the big wilesco plants. That fly wheel spins so true! Congrats on that functioning governor that really is exciting
Looking good. Awesomeness
Hey Paul. First I appreciate the craftsmanship it’s awesome. Second how much did that cost to modify from a regular Jensen 20 to a 20GG? Thanks. If I ever save up enough money I might take you up on one
thank you, Steve, it took a lot of time, cost ....I haven't calculated, I still have this plant. Bruce
That's just gorgeous!
Nice machine
Very nice!
very cool plant, how much do you charge for a bango fitting pressure gauge?
when ever I have extra's I charge $36.00 inc shipping (to the US)
bruceang82 okay, I'm using a mini steam pressure gauge and it would be nice to actually have a whistle instead of replacing the whistle with the pressure gauge, I do have a video on my channel of my Jensen number 25.
Definitely needs a chuffpot on that steam outlet to enhance the sound. Unfortunately i was the only one left making them, but no longer. They sounded the best on Jensens, too.
unfortunately, I've never heard of you, you are far from the last one making them, I've made many & know several people that can make them.
I want that!!!
I still have it , fired it twice.
Very nice!
I want one! Lol
Jed....you are more than capable of making one of these : )
How do I add the governor? Like I want to add the same microcosm governor to my Jensen 75 but I'm not sure what I'd do with the piping, do I have to silver solder it or something else?
you have to divert the steam line to go through the Governor & then to the steam chest , some threading of pipe & soldering will be necessary.
Bonjour Bruce,
Great plant, and a functional governor is really uncommon. Useful for a static plant, less in a boat :+)
How do you manage to operate the governor at the speed you chooze ?
Amicalement, Raphaël
I had to run a trial & error set of experiments to get the right combination of chain gears to achieve the governing set speed I wanted to achieve, I went for 15 psi as being the full governed speed working in close relationship to the comfortable working pressure of the safety valve, I can change the governored action by swapping gears out.
Very nice information about steam engine. Keep it up.thanks.
Awsome!
