After fact checking I noticed i got some things wrong in the Wilesco´s star system:
D6: 2 stars
D16: 9 stars
D32: 50 stars

While I think this is an excellent introduction to a complex steam plant operation (balance feedwater, RPM, and power output) I am a little confused and concerned about one feature. I'm sure the boiler has a proper relief valve (safety valve), but watching you unplug the system because it was raising a higher pressure than desired indicates that this safety valve wasn't properly calibrated. I think the better solution that Wilesco could have done was to include a pressure transducer to switch off the heating element once a certain pressure was reached. This would have been a 'belts and suspenders' solution, but would have allowed the tachometer to continue working even when no heat was applied to the boiler. I have experience with live steam locomotives and our fireboxes use butaine, spirits, or coal. Butaine can easily be shut down, but spirts or coal is not so easy. Mains power is certainly a luxury for ease of firing! Thanks for a great video!
The flywheel on the left is loose and you can see it shaking. That's not cavitation. That's a mechanical problem. Should not be rattling like that.
It’s just the load from the bi pass pump . Nothing wrong .
A beautiful engine I have number 086 and am very pleased with it. It makes far more steam than needed so I run it on a variac. The Tacho still works but may not be as accurate There is a tiny magnet on the left fly wheel. I never run it fast only up to about 500 rpm and it can generate 12 volts at that speed. My feed pump is not so noisy. It normally works well with most water going in the tank and a small amount in the boiler doing that I can keep it running at constant speed, I find you have to keep the boiler well filled so there is not a lot of cold water going in at once and cooling the boiler
What a wonderful presentation of the Wilesco D32. My is coming 03/22/2021 and I only hope it comes as pictured as yours.
You presented very well the steps to start the engine and how to run the engine and the explanation was clear and well understood. This is my first Wilesco however I do have 4 Jensen's two being the #55G and the #20G. I do not wish to compare wilesco to Jensen to me it is not a fair to compare ...Wilesco is more show like and Jensen is that heavy look but nowhere near the features of the wonderful D32.
The value is there if it makes you happy and gives you joy...Wilesco D32 does that.
Thank you for a wonderful presentation...really really well done
Hope your D32 has arrived and you have as much fun with it as I do :3
This is great! Never saw one this large. I have an old D-20 bought about 30 years ago at a vintage toy shop.
Amazing machine! Its is really a work of art!
For power reduction use a Variac. I use one for my D32's and works like a charm. When using a Variac the speedometer keeps working too.
Your D32 makes a weird rattling sound which makes me think something is not aligned correctly.
Excellent engine and video thank you 👍👍👍
Nice demonstration lovely engine. I need one better start saving.
Very nice Wilesco - Cheers Jim
That thing is amazing! I want one now.
The 410 grade steam oil that you are using is very common over here in UK where there are literally thousands of small steam engines, like mine, running around on backyard tracks and in clubs, Here it is very cheap to buy in large amounts - I buy it in half-litre bottles for around eu15, but you can get it cheaper at a train show.
I like it! Anyhow, I don't get why Wilesco provided a 180° crank offset angle. At 90° it would start immediately when pressurized.
Very nice engine. Congratulations.
Interessantes Video.
Nice man, nice!
Great line of steam engines 👍
Nice video
But be honest a price of 2700 euro?
It isnt worth that amount of money.
I used to repair and rebuild Wilesco's in the past. Second the electric elements are not overheat protected. So no water in the tank and the tank could blow up. Its a bomb.
If I had a lathe I’d build one and then more and then sell them (for less than this but more than their worth)
Left flywheel is either out of balance, or warped. needs some T.L.C. should be as smooth as the right .
Wow .. I had that second one as a child … waaaaaaaay back
They should keep on making the Wilesco D32 steam engine. Jensen should also be allowed to have the Pat.Pend.
Great video ,After seeing this I am thinking of buying a stationary steam engine , I like running my live steam trains but at least with a Wilesco I could run it when and where I want to !
I have the smallest steamer from Wilesco. I got it when I was 10 and it works great. I fire with Meta tablets which burn for a while but you seem to have found another solution with electricity.
Great!
haha i like "speedo meter" that got a good smile outta me
Die Frischwasserpumpe macht deutliche Geräusche. Ist das normal so? Insgesamt eine sehr, sehr schöne Maschine! Hätte ich auch gerne!
The feedpump itself is not noisy. Depending on the pressure and heat and waterlevel on the boiler, the cold water condenses the steam in the tubing after the pump to the boiler, creating a "cavitation" effect. This is the noisy sound you hear. Thanks a lot for your interest and the nice words :)
Very. Nice
It's sad 😔 that they don't make more of these.
they do again
@@leo_van_die_katte7728 link?
I don't see where there's linkage from the flyball governor to a steam throtting globe valve. Also pretty clattery machine. Don't notice any cylinder drain vaves either. Otherwise, pretty nice engine.
Ive got the d161 but this one is supper cool
If the electric heater was ajustable , it would be easier to regulate.
This is the best
Made in China? ~ Chineseum crap 😠
It was great
Could you-would you change a cell phone with this?
Im never gonna afford this piece of art
Ich will das auch haben 😊
I am trying to buy one for my Niece and nephews. I had one as a little boy. OMG, this is a monster. way too powerful. Can anyone recommend something with experiance?
Kurbelwelle schlecht ausdistanziert.
Come on come on do the locomotion with me 😊
that can charge our phones ?
Is the best
That makes for a very inefficient electric motor.
It's just a toy x10. I don't see the fascination of it over a true live steam model where the governor actually does something, the boiler has actual flue tubes, entire model isn't stamped pot metal, etc. I own a Wilesco D10, I know.
@@oswaldjacobs1882 - Technically, it is a toy, just like drones under a certain weight are toys, so one doesn't have to get a license to operate them.
For 2800 Euros?
es ist ein meisterwerk von deutschem englisch
"so hier komes se schmoke aut"
Now in english:
I also thought about ordering a D32. But meanwhile I'm disappointed about the quality of Wilesco. Wobbling flywheels are standard. That the supplied energy can only be regulated by pulling the plug and then the tachometer, which btw looks cheap without a frame, no longer works is just ridiculous. The machine is nice to look at, no doubt, but never worth the price of over 2000 €. Limiting it to 500 copies doesn't help either.
How the hell did I get here? Steam tube?
Handmade in germany. Wow
The brexit steam Maschine
Just checked what it costs. £2,150.00! O_o
Topf
Bigger
why a small size generator, i am sure a engine this size could power a larger generator (dc motor run in reverse). The way you have it at the moment the fuel costs more to power the machine than the generator produces !
its a model
Very nice, but why buy a new overpriced one if you can get a good vintage one for half the price or less!?
Find me one.
@@eegg6954 good point
Honestly they're doomsday generator tools.
A mid-life crisis toy is a banana-yellow Corvette Stingray with a custom license-plate that says "BRN2OVRC0MPNS8". This steam engine is just a toy. A nice toy. An intelligent toy. But it's just a toy.
Have this washed and brought to me.
You are running it too fast. The governor is constantly maxed out.
over 2000€
Na immerhin eiert es nicht mehr so....
So yeah where the steam I don't see any😮😮

Meh
G'day,
It was all good,
Until you stated that it's
An
ELECTRIC
Boiler.
So,
Post Apocalypse,
When the Grid goes down,
It's
USELESS.
I want a 1 to 5 Hp Output
Steam Engine which runs on
FIRE (Wood)...;
Or maybe a
Concentrated
Solar-Thermal
Reflector...(?).
My
Off-Grid Solar-Electric System feeds
Lead Acid Batteries (90% Efficient), feeding an
Inverter (95% Efficient), running a
Battery-Charger (80% Efficient) ,
Filling Lithium Ion Batteries (95% Efficient),
Running an Electric Motor (92% Efficient).....
So
75% of the Electricity coming from either my Solar Panels, or 57.8% of the Torque from a 4-Stroke Petrol/Electric Generator's Motor's
Crankshaft...; duly emerges as
Torque coming from the (Brushcutter's) Electric Motor...(!).
Single-Action Steam Engines are 10% Efficient at turning
Steam into
Torque,
Double-Action Engines are
20% Efficient,
Triple-Expansion
Double-Action Steam Engines are
30% Efficient at turning Steam into Torque...
But...,
No Boiler can
EVER convert any more than 50% of the Energy in the
FIREBOX/Products of Combustion, into
Hot Water/Steam...
So, therefore
Thus & because...,
The Very
BEST
Reciprocating Steam Engine can only ever convert
15% of the Energy in it's
Fuel..., into
Torque.
Anybody who has
Access to the Coalfired
Gridpower required to
Raise Steam in this
(Admittedly beautifully-made, and seriously potentially dangerous...)
Little
TOY....
Might perhaps,
If their machine was running Firewood,
If it were a
Double-Acting Unit like this one,
Have a way of making
Torque from Fire & Water which is
10% Efficient...
Overall....
And from that, they might get
Some useful
Work
Done...(?) !
Whereas the
50cc, 2.5 Hp 2-Stroke
Single-Cylinder Engine in my
Old
Tanaka TBC-500
Brushcutter...; cannot possibly be any better than
6.8% Efficient, at turning
Oiled
Petrol, into
Torque...(!).
(1 Litre per Hour, to brushcut with the 2-Stroke..., versus 473 ml per hour put through the 4-Cycle Generator to cut, Electrically, for an Hour - and then recharge ; on the identical Forest-Floor...., doing the same amount of Work/Time (= Power)...!
If you rip out & discard the Electric
Immersion-Heater, and
Rebuild this thing so that it can
Boil Water over a Fire of burning
Wood Shavings, & Twigs & Sticks...;
THEN,
You would possess an actually
Useful
TOOL...!
Rather than the
Exquisitely beautiful,
But
Useless...,
TOY -
Which you have
Showcased,
Herewithin.
Just(ifiably ?) sayin'.
Such is life,
Have a good one...
Stay safe.
;-p
Ciao !
Keep running it like that ,and you'll wreck it,it's still a child's toy, compared to the real Stuart-Turner engines.
Have you priced a Stuart twin cylinder engine with boiler, ready to run?
@@BasementEngineer - I know I haven't, but I do know that everything steam has gone up, from shipping from Europe, to line shafts to used steam engines, stationary and mobiles! Have you had anything imported from Europe lately?
@@nightlightabcd I have not.
Was wondering though what it would cost to ship a Deckel FP-1 milling machine from Germany to my home in western Ontario, Canada. Weight about 1 ton.
