Mr. KB guitar solos at 9:38, and 16:55. Feature on People at 23:00. and Ghost at 25:25. and 44:34. great to see him comping in a combo setting, a true master.
Wow, what a fantastic performance by a group of legendary virtuosos. Jimmy Smith is the greatest jazz keyboard player of all time as far as I am concerned, not only for his incredible improvising skills, but his unbelievable harmonic and rhythmic genius and his amazing bass lines. I don't know anyone else who plays like him. He was so good it's beyond words.
I know Jimmy Smith had a bad reputation for being real surly with fans...but somehow I must have asked the right way, 'cause he signed an 8x10 promo picture for me summer of '71 in Cleveland. This has zGOT to be a very rare collector's item...
Thank you for posting. I was at a 1972 Newport In NY Radio City Midnight Jam featuring these artists and Dexter Gordon, Art Blakey, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and more. I must be old!
Wow. Thanks for posting this priceless footage. I have the album box set & I never knew there was any footage on video. We still have all time greats in Mr. Burrell & Mr. Haynes with us, but this video clearly shows when Giants once walked the earth.
I've had this video for years but didn't put it together with the box set til last night! .. I got it from an Italian collector and filed it under Jimmy Smith.. And of course now I'm searching for more video from the same performance 🙂
Dear Bob, many thanks for sharing this video, in the very beginning the text said that this concert was made in Budapest, Hungary at Erkel Theater. Kind regards Peter.
It’s interesting how they have Roy out front, and that even though they’re playing pretty straight ahead ( with people like Clark and Illinois):he’s breaking the time up in his usual way.
I compiled this setlist: 01 Walkin’ 02 Satin Doll (horns and saxes out) 03 announcer and Haynes solo 04 People (Burrell solo) 05 I Don’t Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You (Jacquet feature) 06 Georgia (Terry feature) 07 Indian Summer (Moody feature) 08 What’s New (Farmer feature) 09 unknown blues 10 announcer/Haynes solo
Hey... Your the guy who made the playlist of JIMMY SMITH full albums.... I just found that playlist.... Did you even see my other attempt to address you?.
And your song list would be greatly improved with timestamps i.e. 15:53 Satin.. 21:42 Haynes solo 23:00 People 25:23 Ghost.. 30:22 Georgia 33:35 Indian Summer 37:50 What's New 41:04 Unknown 45:42 Haynes solo
Thanks. But Yes I know 🙂 I believe that was the name of the Show on Hungarian TV which is why I've written it '......' You can see from the credits at the beginning I think.. This is only a clip though, I believe there might be more
...and at 45.50 (-during the drum-solo -) you hear the hungarian TV-anouncer-lady, saying it was a live concert of J.S. at the Erkel-Theatre, (Budapest), with thw credits of the hungarian TV-staff. I hope this clinches it...
No one else, as far as I can tell, who has left a comment has noted that this was the first year (1972) that the Newport Jazz Festival was held in New York. It’s a significant fact. George Wein had to move the festival because a bunch of rowdy, moronic gatecrashers ruined everything the year before, and in doing so alienated town officials. I know because I had a ticket to see the original version of the Allman Brothers band the following night. That was the last year that Wein booked any rock acts.
Sonno 60 anni che seguo jimmy Smith e sonno unuco qui al mio paese che lo conosco e faccio conoscere ma jazz qui non asiste ne anche per sogno

Live concert in Budapest "Erkel Színház"
Now we on the bass sax
Owwwwwww weeeeeee
The beginning sounds like “Mustard Greens”.!.!.!
Doesn’t really matter where the jazz is played. Newport or Carnegie hall. Same music no matter location
Correction: Erkel Theatre in Budapest, 1973! 😎
I heard that Herb.
Dear Bob! Thanks the sharing, but no Newport in New York. It was Europe, state Hungary, Budapest city, Erkel theatre. Text are hungarian in start.
Thanks. But Yes I know 🙂 I believe that was the name of the Show on Hungarian TV which is why I've written it '......' You can see from the credits at the beginning I think.. This is only a clip though, I believe there might be more
@@bobjuke4216 ..the "name of the Show" on the credit-list says exactly in hungarian: "J. Smith at the Erkel Theatre".

Ok. Held in ny.
Fukeneh!
Do you have the video from the jam session that featured Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, etc. ?
On the track as we speak 🙂

Thanks for the information.👍
New York concert was at Radio City Music Hall..unusual venue for jazz.
