The same thing happened to problem bears in Yosemite (Ca.) They get relocated in Happy Camp Ca. Which, is about 20 miles east of Campbell lake / Cliff lake area, in the Marble mountains wilderness. We have seen more bears in the last 10 years, than we have seen in the 30 years we have been hiking this area.
Stay safe. Love the way you present your videos and include your viewers. I have been silently following since the AT. I live 20 miles from the Monson end of the 100 mile wilderness
I've almost exclusively done away with shorts on trail. There are so many light weight, stretchy, quick drying pants available these days. I already have Lyme so they're better for ticks and also over grown sections of trails.
It looks like you're enjoying your experience. Your pace is great! Thanks for the daily posts. I look forward to watching them. It's hot and humid back in Arkansas.
Howdy Kelly and thanks! What a beautiful hike! We are at 9500 ft outside of Angel Fore NM for a few weeks and have had 3 bears on our porch looking for food. Just doing their thing! Enjoying your hike! Be safe!

Hey MJ.and the rest of the crew, you guys look like you're having a nice hike hope it keeps up! 😅 Thanks for the tip on converting Mountain House meals into ziplock storage bags, same weight but makes alot more space.
Hola! Watching from home in Central Oregon and about to eat some tacos. Excited to watch your video and I love your parts about food and getting to cafes/restaurants(:
I had not heard that specifically about moving the problem bears to that area but I know in Northwestern Wyoming it depends on many factors before they decide to move them. Can't wait for you to make it to the Wind River Range in Wyo. I know I keep saying it 🙂 but I can't way to see your reaction. God Bless!!
Grizzlies can smell food up to 20 miles away. They can smell human scent for days after the human has left an area. Don't use your nose as the yardstick for scent in the wilderness.
It certainly sounds plausible that problem bears would be moved to the Bob Marshall Wilderness given that its USFS managed land. If the bear is tagged and tracked then moving it to the Wilderness would still have it be located on federal land where it could have an eye kept on it by a federal wildlife manager but have less of a chance to have a negative encounter with humans than in the national park. I don't know, but it sounds logical.
@@kellyhays23 I figured as much. Makes sense. I’m not a fan of wet shoes, but much less a fan of walking into camp past dark. Excited to see your journey, wet or dry footed. Such amazing terrain to explore.
I once timed myself to switch to crocs, cross, dry my feet and put the socks and shoes back on. It took 10 minutes. I knew I had 2 more river crossings that day and had to do 22 miles before the last shuttle pickup at 4, so I figured I did not have 20 minutes to spare for the remaining 2. Also, past a certain depth/speed, you need to wear your most tractive shoe option, which would be your hiking shoes.
Kelli, are you using the figure eight knot to tie your ursack? If not, I suggest watching a video. No matter how hard the bear pulls on it, the knot will not loosen. It's what I use to tie my ursack allmitey.
Hmm I always heard that "problem bears" can't be relocated, because they just come back. So instead they're usually killed. But that's in California, where (today) we only have black bears? Maybe it's different in Montana?
In one of your previous videos, you showed the inside of your tent and your overnite pee jug😂, ima need the info on that girl!!! Do you have a link? That would be a game changer for me❤❤ I need it!!!😂

My wife and I never had any interest in trails beyond the AT, but you're changing our mind. CDT SOBO is amazing.
Its the only long trail with actual wilderness experience. PCT has flashes but the CDT is where its at if you want to get away from civilization.

Why do people have to invoke and insult the AT in order to compliment another trail. Sounds petty.

Keep your bear 🐻 spray close at hand and be alert best not to even wear the clothes you cooked in

When you had to do that stream crossing, did your shoes and socks dry out while hiking? Or maybe waterproof socks?
They dry out eventually, maybe the next day lol

Is there any benefit to walking through water crossings with your shoes on versus taking them off and keeping things dry?
It would be so time consuming to do that at every crossing. We shoot for 25+ miles a day and taking shoes off at every crossing is not feasible
