    😜 Any other ideas for how I could use a 360 camera at weddings? Lemme know!
    Also here's some free footage you can download and edit: get.whoismatt.com/insta360

      Hey Matt, I've been following your channel for a while now. Thanks for the awesome tutorials and for trying out new things to innovate the art of filming. Excited to see what else you can do to maximize the use of Insta360 One X. Perhaps drone like shots in tight spaces would be awesome. 😀

      If the ceremony has enough light it would be great as an extra 'safe' angle hanging somewhere on the alter/stage area. I used to do that with GoPros for a closer, reverse angle of the ceremony and loved it.

    If you manually choose 3k 100fps you can reframe the footage as you would 5.7k footage. Just thought I'd let you know.

    I am editing 360 video on an XPS15 9570 with an older i7-7700HQ processor with 4 cores. If I don't use proxies it can bog down, making it difficult to use GoPro's ReFrame plugin to get the perspective I want. However, if I import and then make proxies of the files it works great. The proxy takes about 5 minutes for each minute of video to render. After that I can edit pretty smoothly and quickly.

    Great video. I would disagree with renting for a one off. You need a bunch of time to learn this camera and app. Renting for a weekend for a gig won’t allow a new user enough time to learn. By the time you rent it for a week or two to figure things out you might as well buy it and own it. It’s not expensive and is a great tool to have. Especially for action and in good lighting.
    Thanks for sharing!

    So I can envision a use for this, if you're going to recording a reception and the speech givers are amateur comedians, you could set up the 360 and use it to pick out good laughs and crowd reactions after the fact. They'd be low resolution and dark but they stylistically fit in with the grainy crowd reaction shots you get on a comedy special, and you don't need a dozen camera people searching for interesting audience members to shoot.

    Hi Matt, Guys, I shoot in 8K 3D VR360. VR is great. I have just started out and have no business at all as I could not market it so far. Plus I cannot do the sounds yet. I am happy to collaborate with someone who has the audio sorted. Happy to show you in person in the UK. I am not sure if I invest in sound recording for a while, if a client wants 3D I will do 3D photos which works so well video may not even be necessary. 360 will not make 2D photographers redundant. Totally different aims. 360 VR. >Reality is stressed and if it is 3D you feel it in your heart that you are there at the event. Normal 2D creates illusions, makes it better than it actually was, and you are looking at it and imagine what it was like, not at all the same.

    Having used 360 for awhile, specifically GoPro's Fusion. I still feel like it's still it's own niche away from most professional videography and photography. People shoot 360 for the 360 or the cool dynamic shots you can how you can edit it. It's kind of in the GoPro/action camera realm. With the small smartphone or Mavic Pro size sensor you really don't get the quality of any larger sensor or any depth of field. I think you could get some cool like "moment" clips or photos from things but it's not enough to add to a video shot on a dslr or mirrorless. Also the editing can be a nightmare mostly because computers these days really can handle the editing. My MacBook Pro with and i5 and 8GB of RAM tends to struggle a bit on 360. It'll edit and render 4k HDR from my a7iii perfectly fine but some how 360 is a nightmare on it.

    I have the Yi360 and we have had a blast with it. We have had it attached to the roof of a rat rod, stuck it out the window doing 80mph to get get other rat rods, rode on a fire truck and it even goes under lowriders.
    I have never thought of doing a wedding until I just saw your video. I would think of maybe the wedding exit in a cool convertible.

    I just used it in a different but quite similar setting: a first communion. I'm an amateur one man team and the main goal was classic photography for the parish and the marching band, but I brought the Insta360 One X with me, along with the selfie stick and the extended selfie stick and just gave it a try. On the output I got quite some stills from unique angles that I could mix in to the classic photos from my LUMIX FZ 200 bridge camera and even enough material for a short video clip from the march from the church to the parish garden - absolutely beautiful drone like shots, hovering shots during the ceremony, close "fly bys" you never can achieve with a real drone (risk, panic and drone laws would ruin the shot). Sure, the quality is not even the level of my LUMIX, safe any of the Sony stuff Matt is using, but the customers don't care, the different and dramatic composition of the pics and vids just blew them away (and that even with the mild but noticable distortions from my slightly chipped lenses from an gravitational incident my One X suffered).
    My advice: get it - play with it - learn from it. It's a great and cost efficient start, you might decide later if you'd go for higher level equipment.

      @@whoismatt ...and just did a Corpus Christi procession today. Almost same story. This time used a Macro tripod, which can spread the legs really wide and the extended selfie stick. Just put it in a convenient place (under a tree hiding the shadow, behind the altar, in front of a balcony the priest was standing) and let it run while I was shooting with the LUMIX. Now I'm doing the overcaptures and it's never seen before angles again. Maybe I'll drop the clip on my channel, we'll see 😉

    Tried this a few years ago and it turned out ok, but really wasn't worth the hassle and the results weren't impressive at the time. In my wedding workflow, I think I'd need a separate crew person just for the 360 content.

    Got a 2018 MacBook Pro and waiting for the Nikon / Ninja V firmware for ProRes RAW...
    So I am happy with FCPX!
    But I just bought a Insta360 One X (ie 4K) and found out the ONLY way to create an integrate 360 B-Roll is to use the Plug-in for Premier (not for FCPX) but I heard Premier is a 🐶 compared to FCPX and I really hate having to learn another Video Editor...
    Note: Insta360 has its own proprietary App and file format that stores the Video with the App making it impossible to use the App and externalize the data... so you are gonna blow thru your MacBook Pro (esp iPhone and iPad)!if you start shooting 360 a lot.
    So - storing on an external drive - requires the Adobe Premier.

    Damn, I have just bought this insta360 one x. and was thinking about using it at my next wedding.
    And actually it is a 120Mbps/lens so it is 240Mbps total for the 5.7K
    Also for bullet time I would prefer if the camera would be lower, somewhere around shoulder height so more body is in the shot. I'd rather film it in 30fps 5.7k, and re-frame it in premiere with keyframes the way I want.

    Does anyone deliver 360 video of parts of the day so that couples can watch with VR Goggles? It's not a creative film, more an immersive experience to pretend you're back in the room, able to look around. I can imagine when the quality improves, and it's coupled with 3D (2 x 360' angles side by side) and surround sound, it will be very effective.

    well first of all THANK YOU for being honest even though you've got a free gift from insta :-P I'm using this camera in the last months cause is so so cool to record everything and later choose the angle, just like a dream ( i made a 5k video about Singapore, so far is my biggest effort and i think it looks pretty good) THE BAD part is that sometimes this camera FAILS , what i mean? sometimes goes in standby you think you hit record and is not recording but just waking up from standby LOL ! other times it decide that you card " isn't fast enough " it happened to me few weeks ago in Jordan, while the memory card i use is one of the best HIGH temperature and hot temp getting the camera decided to give an input of "lnsufficient speed " ........... ! than other bad part is SOFTWARE by insta360 and lack of accessories ( promised at begin ) ! if i knew all of this at begin i'd not buy it !

  • @PhillipRPeck
    @PhillipRPeck 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool video. This might be the first one that makes me actually want a 360 camera--and yes, I watched Philip Bloom's. I feel like the smoke bomb shot would work better with the sun much lower in the sky and not 360 because the smoke would look better back lit. That's just my opinion and what do I know? But cool idea and love your videos

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, you kind of alluded to it, but the 5.7k resolution is being stretched across a full 360 degree image and not just a 16:9 or 17:9 frame. So whenever you crop out the portion you want to compose a 16:9 frame (or whatever), you're only getting...a lot less of the recorded pixels (I don't know math). So the bitrate is only part of it

    I dont buy this, because its performans will be worst on 4k tv. Generally people presumed that smartphones shows same performance like big screen, no! Fckn no. you need to use real 4k dslr + good lens minumum, for the great video that you want to see. Also 4k cheap drones won't help, their dycamic range worst on 4k tv too, don't buy it. Rent best stuff then you will be satisfied.
