Someone needs to make a video for "How to shoot a friends wedding solo" for that techy person who owns a decent camera and is asked by a close friend to film their wedding who cannot afford a professional. What's the most basic equipment needed and most basic things you want to catch to make a 5-8 minute video.

I shot my second wedding video a few days ago. Third coming up in less than a month and I just realized how much I actually need to work on... wow. I definitely need to make a few more purchases too. I am using the Sony A7III with the 24-70mm Gmaster lens. I could really use a 70-200mm because I want to be respectful of the guests and not get in the way of their viewing. I also have no audio equipment. I shot every clip in 120fps. I’m stuck on the slow motion train.. I definitely need to try new methods!

For me I rarely include real audio outside of vows & speeches in my highlight videos, so I found some inspiration from you on this, as I agree it did sound way more engaging to hear some of the ambiance. I see so many wedding shooters that really offer a mediocre job, can't even get the exposure right, but this video explains not the basics but how to get that pro feel. Exactly what i have been looking for, all the things you mention are spot on. Only thing that will be difficult to include as i am just starting on events is a second shooter, most people money is a sensitive topic. So might have to build a reputation first before including this. Cheer for the info.

8:04 that’s why I think audio is at least as important as the video.
One great example, if you watch a video on TH-cam and the image goes away or glitches for a few seconds, no problem.
If the audio goes away for a few seconds you are almost immediately annoyed becauseyou don’t know what he said.

QUESTION! At @5:04 we see the focus on the bride and due to the angle and different planes, the groom was out of focus. This can very much be intentional, but I'm curious as to how you can get both in focus without compromising exposure. No knowledge from application here so forgive me if the answer is obvious to most.

Hi Jake/Parker, great video! Quick question - I'll be filming my own wedding (LOL), since we are having a small, backyard ceremony, and I was wondering what lens you would choose for just setting up a single camera? It will probably be a straight-on, long shot, so I can crop-in later if needed. I may also rent a second cam for a bride's face shot, or whatever you may suggest for a second, static angle. Thanks in advance!! 😀

@@BryanLopezProductions Pretty good, I set up a wide shot and had a buddy walking around getting the good angles. Looking back on this now, it was kind of a silly question - it depends basically. I could have used a wider angle lens if the camera had to be close, or a zoom lens if I wanted to put the camera far away in the distance. I ended up putting my cam a little bit back and out of the way, and zoomed in to around 50 or 60mm. This gave a natural look to the faces and still showed everything in the background that was needed since it was far enough away.
