  • Since 2015, there have been a consistent release of David Bowie "Era" Boxsets with a new one on the horizon as this video is being uploaded. Each "Era" boxset features fresh remasters for the albums in the period of time it covers along with a few goodies too - the main one being "Re:Call". "Re:Call" is a compilation of singles that have been released during the 'era' covered and remasters both A-Sides and B-Sides too with even minor single edits getting a remaster too. Every boxset has its own "Re:Call" however the very first "Re:Call" is unavailable on TH-cam so I've decided to re-upload a handful of the rarities from the collection in their 2015 remastered form!
"Arnold Corns" was practically Bowie's rough sketch for Ziggy Stardust. It was a small band Bowie formed that performed a couple of early versions of what would become tracks from Ziggy Stardust. In particular, they released early versions of "Moonage Daydream" and "Hang On To Yourself", both of which have vastly different lyrics to the classic tracks we know today. Moonage Daydream was the A-Side here and I quite like this version; the key change, lyrics and the lack of the heavy guitars from the original makes this version standout and makes it feel like a possible reprise of sorts. It's surprisingly quite polished and still holds a lot of the musical ideas that the original would have. I particular enjoy Bowie's vocals and piano work here too. This is a neat rarity that isn't as amazing or grand as the Ziggy version but cool nevertheless.
