My truck has no boost on first start . Can't hear that fast noise the actuator should make . If I run it for 20 seconds , and wait 7-10 more , I can hear the actuator and it will run fine afterwards . Soot maybe ? Been running it like this for a while now . PITA but still working . Tempted to buy a new turbo and use my actuator . What is your thought ?

Before you look into a new turbo, I would have a tech take a look at it & any related components that could cause an issue with the turbo.

What if turbine speed is too high and keeps failing regen analyzer test?

My exhaust brake function has diminshed to the point that its hard to tell if its working. It used to work great but has lost about half of its stopping power. Is this a common vgt symptom and is there any way to free it up?

It's possible that your vanes are sticking in the wrong position your VGT. If they're stuck, it's likely damaged or loaded with soot/carbon.

Another reason is a bad exhaust pressure sensor (egr pressure sensor) it reads turbo back pressure. If it gets bad readings the exhaust brake won’t fully come on.

I have a question. Can you not remove the Variable geometry stuff and use an external wastegate?

If your engine was built with VGT, it was meant to be on there. Changing components the engine wasn't originally designed with may do more harm than good.

@@Highwayandheavyparts yeah but this VGT keeps on failing and that requires turbo maintenance
It’s doing harm to my wallet

If you're frequently having VGT problems, you're real engine issue is likely upstream from the VGT. Thoroughly check your engine for any signs of a failure that would show up in your VGT.

@@Highwayandheavyparts where can I start looking? What can cause a vgt to fail?

Start by looking into your EGR maintenance. We recommend thoroughly cleaning your EGR system before installing one of our VGT Turbos.

Actuator is completely free when taken apart. I put it back together and it will not move at all. What is going on??? Is the nozzle not properly lined up with shroud? Is my turbo bad?

Hi Patricio! Rob covered your question in yesterday's video. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/qAcKp6HHlEM/w-d-xo.html

That just might be what's causing my actuator code to show as "Lost Communication"

My 2016 Ram did the same for 3 months in a row. Two previous times the code went away on its own. Third time was enough took it in and the turbo was no good. A small leak of coolant on the back side of the turbo where the actuator mates to the turbo. Would never have seen it looking from the front or top. I checked my engine bay for anything. Chewed wires, loose ground, loose terminals on the batteries and the fuse box all were good.
What I did learn from the shop going forward is to step on it when one can and use the engine brake to actuate the turbo. My turbo went out just over 62k. There was no maintenance neglect on my part. It just went out.

We suggest sticking with whatever came on stock on your engine. We'll have more on this topic in the future.
