I was born in Ely and lived there half my childhood. I believe I saw my Jr High or the old Highschool in the background. I spent many days at that park. I have a childhood newspaper picture of me having my face painted at that park. I remember dragging main as a teenager. It's so nostalgic for me. I plan on returning this summer to show my boyfriend my old hood.
It's definitely the epitome of small town life. It was a good visit for me. I'll be back again. I hope your boyfriend enjoys visiting Ely as much as I did!
Ely is a relaxed town that still relies on mining for a healthy economy. Its a great, laid back place to visit. Next time you visit, drive up to McGill about ten miles north and check out that historic mining town. The Rexall Drug store is vintage 1970s.
Cool, I live seeing the videos in rural parts of the state. I also recommend if you haven't check out Wendover especially when they do all their race events. during that week or so there are a lot of really cool race cars and classic cars. they also have a cool air field museum on the utah side of town and the salt flats where they have broken a lot of land speed records.
Ely also has a big race twice a year. Nevada Open Road Challenge and Silver State Classic Challenge. They close Highway 318 for the day and some cars crack 200mph!
Agree. Vegas is NOT the same as the rest of Nevada. Vegas is Nevada's little chunk of California. I think we should give Clark, Washoe, and Carson City to California so they stop ruining real Nevada with their stupid ideas.
i really enjoy jacobs trips...i travel the same way...give a little back, and learn something, like chicks, brothels, casinos and occasionally some food, and drinks
I stayed @ the Hotel Nevada last year and gambled at the Jail House casino. I loved the visit. In fact, there was a little Radio Shack store right next to the Jail House that I went into. It must have been one of the last ones left any where.
I've never been to Ely, but from what I see here it reminds me a little bit of Pahrump. The hotel casino you stayed in reminds me of the Pahrump Nugget, where I stayed in 2019.
We moved here 10 yrs ago and feel lucky we are here thankful to be here as we adapt to the small town life style we feel still lucky ❤ and humbly greatful to live here there are still good place to live small town life we are just thankful ❤❤❤
I used to live in Ely around 5 years ago and were gonna visit my grandparents and my dads girlfriend and her kids are gonna come to and this is there first time going so I'm going to get to make the most of it!
@@JacobslifeinVegas I have seen the glitz & glamour of the strip hotels, but I still favor the nice local places. You're right, Ely is certainly not like the Las Vegas strip or downtown!
This is pretty recent. There used to be a traffic light right by Hotel Nevada not too long ago. They took out another one down by the East Ely Chevron. They now have 2 traffic lights instead of 4. I HATED the one by Chevron. I NEVER caught it green. I'm so glad it's gone! Hotel Nevada is cool. It was the tallest building in Nevada when it was built. President Johnson stayed there. And not many people know Pat Nixon (President Nixon's wife) was from Ely, NV. Also on interest is that, on average, Ely has more days per year where the low temp goes below freezing than any other town in the lower 48. I forget the number but I think it was around 280. In the short time I lived there, I can confirm this. I've personally witnessed 56 degree difference between day and night on the same day! -25 that morning and warmed to 31 by lunch time. I learned a lot in the short time I lived there. I love rural Nevada. I've also lived in Indian Springs. That was so relaxing.
This is high desert at just over 6,400 feet. Winter can be brutal and summer temperatures drop fast at sundown. Wonderful. My wife is from McGill/Ely. We visit often.
We went through Ely summer of 20 driving US 50 across NV. Had a nice stay. Great people. We ate at the Italian Restaurant. Wonderful food there. A little too isolated for me but still a great little town.
I bartended at the RIO and the Hotel. I was never bored. I loved Ely. To much personal tragedy. Family issues. I would move back in a heartbeat if they had better medical conditions
@@SurfCityBill true. I just got rubbed the wrong way over there. Who cares about fancy in Ely? 😆 Those people are out of touch with their surroundings. Too California-ish for me.
You should have stayed at the Hotel Nevada! Their website says it was founded in the Prohibition Era, but when I was their they claimed to be the oldest hotel in Nevada.
Hey bro I really appreciate your videos just moved to Hawthorne NV about a month ago and I Wana go explore more of the state so thanx for all the info about navada very useful and helpful

I lived in Ely up until I was 8 years old. I had a great childhood in Ely. It was pretty interesting being the only Asian kid in a town full of white people. I'm 28 now.
Worst food ever! BTW, they're all over the place in Utah. So gross though. I never found anything I liked there. Juanita's (over at the Jailhouse) is legit though!
Nice to stay somewhere you may never see anywhere else, love it!
Enjoyed the video always dreamed of living in a very small town this looks perfect 👍🤪
Good to show us other parts of Nevada.
Great video Jacob. Love your new intro. Have a great week
Very Interesting Town Jacob. Looks like my kind of place! Great video once again. Keep up the good work!
A bit more what I was expecting, I must say. Nice looking community. Looking forward to visiting as soon as I'm driving again.😎🚗
Thank You for all of your videos that you did. I am enjoying all of them

I'm digging the intro. Hotel looks interesting, nice quiet, quaint place. Love these rural Nevada places
A very cool looking place, Kept very clean.
I LOVE Ely!!!! I was there in Late April, still snow on the ground 😂❤
We were there in middle of May 20. We woke up to frost.
I woke up to -25 with a -46 windchill there one day in January 2017!
Also saw snow in July back in 2014.

Visit the Clowns Motel, Tonopah!

The main employer in Ely is the maximum security prison, Ely State Prison, which is about 10-miles outside of Ely, Nevada.
I was a shift commander there, once upon a time.
Sorry it's the copper mine
"There's 10,000 in the entire county" So basically this is heaven.

Thought Jacob woke up in the brothel 😂
😂
Close, the brothel is right behind Jailhouse (and a few steps west).
I was born there. Used to go prospecting in Hamilton a ghost town about 50 miles west of Ely.
Cute little town. Been thru a few times 😊
Thems was two sweet ladies, very rare in today's world!
ya gotta come to Reno Jacob

There is nothing there so fun your trip I bet😁

Born in Ely. Great place to raise a family.
I don't think there is much crime due to ALL of those American flags and open carry in Nevada!!!
This is pretty cool seeing my town in a video. Kinda sad that you only stayed in downtown and didn’t check out any of the other areas in town
It was a cool visit, although brief. I'll be back ;)
When I would visit my Mom in Vegas she always took me to her little local dive casinos, so I would feel very comfortable at this one! lol

Have you posted a video on Tonopah, particularly the Clown Motel?
Ah Yes Ely, the train obsessed city in NV, an execllent reminder that there is no passenger rail anywhere in Southern Nevada.
Thanks to Harry Reid.
Crazy background music.
this man doing a DRIVING TOUR of all the rural nevada BROTHELS… 😂😂😂
Hi Jacob nice Town
Go find the 2 cute girls they were cool
We went through Ely summer of 20 driving US 50 across NV. Had a nice stay. Great people. We ate at the Italian Restaurant. Wonderful food there. A little too isolated for me but still a great little town.
The isolation was a struggle when I lived there. Nearest Walmart was 2 and a half hours away in Elko. If I didn't have kids, I would have stayed.
@@JDOTVegas I'm sure you bought a lot of stuff online too.
Ely also have a brothel or two, if you run out of things to do.
The Greek Orthodox priest in Reno used to have to commute Bi weekly to Ely and McGill to to give services. Imagine that commute
Dang! That's a good 4-5 hour drive each way

You going to Ely but not Tahoe?!!
You should bring that Real estate lady friend of yours along to explore these small town real estate markets.
Ely is too boring once you've been in Las Vegas. People who live in a place like Ely must really like isolation.
It's a tight knit community
The isolation is the best part!
I remember the state senators wife backed into my car there.lolol
I've been to Ely many times the jailhouse has the best steak in town
Just saw a walking video from a big city in Haiti.....massive numbers of people and congestion in Haiti to almost no one in Ely.
When I think of Ely, NV, I think of a place called Taco Time that's located inside a gas station mini mart. Bonus: They have tater tots! :)
