- I've been absolutely desperate to see some wild otters while touring through Scotland so we decided to take matters into our own hands and start our Otter Watch 🦦. We got onto the ferry that took us to the Isle of Uist where our search started. Nala and I spent the day exploring the coast of Uist hoping to spot some otters. We found what we thought was the perfect spot for a possible otter home so we decided to camp up for the evening and get comfy with some binoculars 😻.

We’re Dean & Nala, and we’ve been best friends since December 2018. I was cycling around the world when I heard Nala meowing out for me somewhere in the Bosnian mountains. With no intentions of keeping Nala, I knew i had to save the wee kitten and take her to the vet - but I was well aware of the fact that it might be a bit of a challenge considering I only had a bike. However, despite my concerns, Nala quickly climbed out of the front bag on the bike handle and straight onto my shoulder. Since then, we’ve been travelling the world together. Hey Dean, if Nala has started mewing when she's peeing, it might be a good idea to get her checked by a vet - that can be a sign of a urinary tract problem.

Otter viewing takes time and patience. You’ll have to sit and wait. They see movement up on the bank and they’re gone. Put Nessie somewhere facing the sea and just sit and wait.

Nala is so well behaved
Good Evening from NY, make sure Nala does not have a urinary tract infection, My cat started crying when he went to the bathroom, and he had an infection, and I lost my cat because I did not understand he was sick. My cat seemed fine. Have Nala checked by a vet.
Pretty sure he said she meows after she's done peeing. My cat does this as well, as if wanting acknowledgement for a job well done.
@@terised Yes, Dean did say after she went to the bathroom. My mistake, I wrote bedroom. ha! ha!. My cat never cried before going pee, but when he was 11 yrs. old, when he started crying, So I was constantly checking the cat box and cleaning it. I knew that when they get older, they want their boxes clean. Doc told me, UTI was the cause of his death. I was devastated.
Cuddling with my kitty, Ozzi, esp. in winter, are the best days and doing that while watching you and Nala makes them even better! Come to Monterey Bay, Ca. and see all the wild otters to your heart's content! Love you Dean and Nala, thank you for sharing all your adventures with us.

Farmers used to bring their animals into the house at night. Your face was a picture when you saw the lady and her cow. Nala was exhausted from steering, but she's a brilliant wee driver. Even on a dreich day, the west coast and islands are stunning. On a day like this 24 years ago, we drove over to the Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton (I probably spelled that incorrectly), and it was beautiful. I hope those otters show themselves soon.

Dean, another lovely video. Tell me, would you share with us how you are feeling being off the bike and with it more rugged living conditions(save for those lovely hotel stays) vs. now being in the comfort of your van all the time? Would love to hear your thoughts and feelings on that. Also, any plans to get on the bike again or are you officially now traveling only with the van? Just curious. You may not have decided yourself. We had to change our plans & route back in March 2022, but we want to get back on the bike once it's warmer and then we'll decide on where to go 🌍
@@1bike1world please dean don't take Nella on the bike for a long trip and ruff terrain please put what's good for her first you don't have to be on a bike you could travel the whole world in a bus so don't give in to the pressure it's time to change the course.
@@ulrikalovecats1270 'We' want to get back on the bike, he says. The van is much safer and healthier for Nala to travel around in but she doesn't get a say in it. Who is the 'we'? The people behind the scenes? Or just him? I won't be watching once he gets back on the bike, it's too much stress knowing the effect and the risks for a cat.
Christmas ideas for Dean's mum: a pair of walking boots & a waterproof jacket for Dean plus a cat blanket for little Nala to keep them warm during the winter. 😼
If Nala cries when she pees, she might have a urinary tract infection or crystals in her pee. My cat cried when she peed when she had crystals in her pee.

If Nala just started giving a cry when she pees, she may have cristals in her urine. It hurts when she goes. I hope that you can tell your vet next time. It's painful for her.

Your quest for otters continues! I believe they just lie on the land to clean and sunbathe but generally live right in the sea. I hope your search is eventually successful and we get to see those sea otters too! That was a lot of walking for both of you! I hope you and Nala get to see the otters 🦦 . I did read that they will stay in dens, when it’s cold. So, those definitely could have been otter homes that Nala was peeking into.
