Fellow Oregoner here living in Cottage Grove. I have finally decided to get rid of the KTM Super Adventure and go a little slower and lighter to safely play more in the woods. I find your vids on the DRZ informative and they have convinced me to go with a new 22 DRZ400S. If your close to my location would love to get together to pick your brain.
Great Video, thanks. I just bought a drz400 from Cycle country in Salem, yes, I am an Oregonian too. I am going to buy all of these mods from your links. Looks like I have a bunch more vids to watch. Thank you.
I've been riding the Sierra mountains all summer, 4k miles so far. Best all around motorcycle I've ever had. Good 20/50 oil is a must, much smoother and quieter engine.
3x3, jetting mod is awesome. In just about every other country in the world the DRZ comes with a 39mm pumper (FCR) carb and larger exhaust (looks the same). Thank California for that.
Kenda K270’s tires also very good choice for on and off road. Not quite as good in the mud but much better wear and less expensive than the Kenda Trakmasters. I got over 5,500 miles on my last set doing 50/50 dirt/street riding here in the mountains of Pennsylvania!!
You and I have a lot of the same mods. I added(front & rear) Dunlop 606, Seat Concept kit last week. Pillow grips. Put a set of Tusk KX high bend aluminum bars on last night and the 1" Tusk riser. (I'm 6' 4") Weather gonna be good today. I'll get some riding in! take care, Clark
My 2002 DRZ is still going strong. I've had it since 2006. I prefer riding it over my KTM 450 for long day rides where I'm on forest service roads for 100+ miles.
Hello Dork in the road. Former Oregoner / retired Military now. I am new to this sport & I just bought a 2022 DRZ 400 S. Thank you for the info video's you put out. Re: the tires you put on. The Kendra K760 Tracmastr II what size did you put on for ft/re? thank you.
Awesome video! I suggest giving the Dunlop 606 a try. They are pretty awesome. Great for mud! Also the road use is awesome. I had a rear tire last me 5400 miles!
Similar mods as mine, but as far as USB charging, I have and SAE connector on the battery I use for battery charging, heated jacket liner and with an adapter, I can charge my phone. I find stock jetting and air box works great and no plans to change.
Good to see the modifications you made to the DRZ. Is the seat concepts seat the “low” model, and are you considering any lowering options for the bike? Nice video!
Great video! What’s your opinion of using the Tubliss system and carrying a patch kit vs the heavy duty tube and carrying all the tools for the tube change? I like the advantage of the Tubliss system so I don’t have to change my tube or carry all the tools and spare tube to do so. I will probably not be going one way 30 miles out the middle of nowhere like yourself, but maybe 10 miles.
I love the idea of the Tubliss and there are some big advantages (plug a tire without removing it, can run super low PSI) but the cost of entry is a lot higher than HD tubes and rimlocks, so I haven't looked super seriously at it.
Try just the rear 1st (cheaper to get started) and see what you think. More beneficial there than the front for general traction. Used to run both now just rear.
Hello, I hope you are doing well today. I'm Patti from Long Beach California, just looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. Merry Christmas to you.
Which are these "heavy duty tubes", please? I used (commercial) liquid rubber we inject inside the tube, then go ride immediately to spread it inside. I did this before a 12,000 km trip on my XT500 through France, Spain, tour of Morocco and back. My rear tube died 2 km before home. Died from 1 small, 2 mid and 1 big nails which I might have for 100's of km...fantastic.

Hello, I hope you are doing well today. I'm Patti from Long Beach California, just looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. Merry Christmas to you.
I have watched many of your videos and will continue to watch them. I saw in this video where you spoke of carrying all of your camera equipment in the tank bag. Can you provide us a video on the camera equipment that you use? Cameras, mounts etc. I am assuming you are not just the "Dork In The Road", but also a geek on the trail. Also, I watched the video where both you and McLovin rode together and posted different perspectives of the same ride. His video is pixelated and choppy........hard to watch. Yours is clear and smooth. Can you comment as to why that is?
Full helmet and camera setup: th-cam.com/video/oci_YRTQn_k/w-d-xo.html The pixelated-ness has to do with two different factors. One is the codec he renders his videos with. The other is the codec TH-cam uses to show the videos. Bigger channels have access to a better codec which works much better for video with a lot of detail moving quickly, like when you're riding a motorcycle through a forest.
Huh never broke a magnesium case on my mx bikes even in the rocks. Maybe consider a gnarlier skid plate keeps the case from contacting anything but your foot
I finally got a DRZ (S) after 5 years! Do the bar risers really make a big difference? I'm 6'3" and standing just feels wrong. I might get new bars, but rizers are much cheaper. I havent noticed problems with the pegs, must have been changed by the previous owner. Also wondering if the seat is just as easy to hop on and off (and bail).
Are you running stock 15/44 sprockets? Drz I bought has 14/49 on it. It's like a tractor in the woods but hitting 5th gear at 45mph. I was curious what you had since your trails are similar to what i ride but much dryer
Did you have to stiffen up the suspension? I weigh 270. And I’m currently in the market to buy a used one. My concern is if the stock suspension will be enough for my weight on some of the pnw trails?
So I finally rode with a passenger on my 2019 DR-Z400, but the bike was making a clinging sound which I'm not sure if it was the piston. Has anyone had this experience when carrying a passenger?
@@danno02 The chain was how it came from factory. The noise ain't pretty. I think the spring may have to be adjusted tighter cause the drz has a soft suspension
@@deltabravo1257 so 15/44 is stock right, if you don't mind me asking why do you run that gearing? What chain length or still stock? How is that for some hwy miles as well? Thank you
@@bigleftlcn As far as I can find, 15/44 is stock gearing. I run 14/47 so the bike is easier to ride on trails. I used to do a lot of trail riding. Stock gearing is HORRIBLE for technical single track trail riding. 14/47 is much better for trails, but it's HORRIBLE for highway. Top speed I won't go above is about 55mph with 14/47. You need a longer chain for 14/47 gearing.

Very nice. Now you need a bigger fuel tank and a 440 big bore kit that will fit inside your engine.
Maybe someday
Instead of a bigger tank, wouldn't he just carry some fuel canisters on the rear of the bike when he's going to be riding that far?
