This song saved my life. It means so much to me. I was suffering from cancer and it was so brutal on my body that I wanted to die, but I heard this song and I was looking so horrible no hair no teeth nothing and then my husband played this songand it made me want to get up and fight and fight and I fought so hard that the cancer went away. I was not a POP music fan neither of Christina. But when I saw this clip on TV I just froze down from outside and felt that I'm burning inside.
Honestly! I was just watching the kissing couple and, believe me, or not, but that was a turning point in my life. I really started to think that I can believe that I'm beautiful, like those kissing guys, no matter what the others say.

At almost 60 years old, I have re-discovered this song and video. I'm a dude. A 'masculine' man. But over the course of my life, I have known each one of the characters depicted in this video. At times, I knew several people struggling with their place, and acceptance in this world. Now getting to be an "old" man - I feel so much more empathy. I've lived in a squalid room downtown. I have sisters that went through body-image issues. Punk friends who explained their reasons, and their individuality. Girls who had a tough time with bullying. I relate mostly with the skinny guy discovering weights. Not so much on the trans-thing, but I have become to have much more empathy. Fortunately I've stayed in touch with friends of varying life-experience. Nobody needs to record another song for me - as I'm main-stream. Lots of songs speak to me. But watching this reminds me of a time when so many "acceptance" issues were so much harder. Remember: You are beautiful, no matter what they say.

Sometimes i think people don't give credit for the originality on CA's work, she had the balls to put an explicit, unapologetic gay kiss in this video and portrayed people who are hardly noticed/bullied in such a positive way. Even though she started out as a manufactured artist she has an "independent thinking" and doesn't always go with the flow, like working with Sia and Mark Ronson before they were everywhere. This song was ahead of its time. It is socially revelent today. People live with the fear of judgement of who you are and this song reminds you that you are a beautiful person. People may not know your struggle with who you are and how you see yourself, however no matter who struggle you go through this song reminds you that there is nothing wrong with being true to yourself. I know especially this time mental health issues are sigmitized and hard to talk about. I know because it gets to me. I have epilepsy and it has really limited on what I can do in my life. It makes me feel like I have to be taken care of and it's really hard to go though living your life feeling like you have limits on what you can do in life. this song reminds me that my disability doesn't define who I am and also if there is anyone who feels like this reply to me and I just wanted to know you aren't alone.

Oh good grief these "issues" were talked about all the time in the 1990's and early 2000s. Being gay or different was not a new thing in 2002.
I was around back then. There was barely any activism from celebrities, mainstream media didn't talk about it, and internet usage was scarce, so to have an influential celebrity on TV tackling all these issues in a 4 minute music video was groundbreaking! She did a more successful outreach than all of the organizations combined. She definitely saved lives!

Back in the 90's and early 2000's gays were in everything everywhere, they were in massive amounts of music vids, TV shows, movies, commercials, etc. The difference was back then its was just about acceptance and normalization, not totally over the top celebration and glorification to the point of near worship and religion where its literally their entire identity as a human being.
Back then what you did in your bedroom was nobodies business and most people did not care, now what you do in the bedrooms is supposed to be EVERYONES business and should be shoved in the face of everyone on the planet including small children.

I was bullied a lot growing up. Once my classmates found out that I was a foster kid, I immediately became a target for their cruelty. It got worse when a girl found out that I didn't even know my biological parents or family members at all. I got teased for not having the "right clothes ", I was also bullied in my home for being the only white girl in a Hispanic foster home. It got to the point that reading became my escape. The librarians and the books became my friends. I isolated myself from everyone, and because of this, even now at almost 25 years old, it's hard for me to make friends. This song helped me through the hard times.

I thought this was a lovely song when it first came out but it’s only since my cousin passed away from anorexia that’s it’s become really meaningful to me . She was 22 and suffered with it for so long , she was self loathing to the extreme and it really made no difference how much we tried to tell her that she was beautiful she was lost to it long before she died - in a bubble all of her own . She was truly beautiful though , inside and out . ❤

I think there's an even greater message here than just "you are beautiful." Look at the diversity of people featured in this video, people that are bullied and judged. A greater message I see is to accept others for who they are. Do not judge just because they appear different from you, on the inside we are all the same. Beautiful.

This song saved my life. First time that I saw this video, something really touched and spoken to me. But I was so young to realize that I was gay, even everyday I heard this on school as a hate speech. When I was 15 and already was a big Christina fan, I was suffering a lot try to not be gay and whole of afraid. One night, after school, I walk so much until a tower in my homecity, Recife, Brazil. I was ready to jump when, as a true miracle, on the other floor the security's cellphone start to calling and the ringtone was BEAUTIFUL. It was in 2007. I am 32 years old now, so proud of who I am, still leading with depression somedays, but this song and Christina's voice always help me! Last year I flew to Chile ought to see her two consecutives night. Was a dream coming true. I wrote a letter to her telling this story and her fiancé and daughter walked very close to me, but I didn't gave to him. I hope she has felted my love and gratittude from the audience those nights.
