    I became a resident of Nevada from South Florida in October of 2023. I made at least two dozen calls before I found a place to get residency. I went to the social services on Foremaster called the Courtyard in Las Vegas. That was the only place. They gave me residency there. Beware! The insurance is outrageous! My auto insurance for my van was $136 a month in Florida, is now $257 a month in Nevada. I have no moving violations, no tickets, not even a parking ticket. Was it worth it? Not sure, I wish I would’ve shopped around for another state. My auto insurance is now 25% of my income

      Understood. Auto insurance is the one hurdle I'm seeing before jumping into Nevada residency.

      How does insurance work for you?
      Do they just have your address as the "garaging address", even though that's not where you're garaged? Or something else?

    I thought I'd make a quick mention that it's not always true that the auto insurance in Florida is cheaper than Nevada as mentioned in this video. For me at least, I saved about 40 dollars on my insurance when I registered here in Nevada. All you have to do is call your insurance broker and tell them you are thinking of moving to such and such town in whatever state, and they can tell you exactly what your insurance would cost when you make the move. That is what I did, and I was pleasantly surprised that I'd pay less in Nevada than I was paying in Florida......

    • @Non_Descript_Individual
      @Non_Descript_Individual 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason is that Florida either still is or at least was a hotspot for insurance fraud because of all the con artists, drug trafficking, etc.
      So Florida's answer to all that was to make insurance more difficult (and therefore expensive) to get fruadulently.
      I once reg'd a vehicle there for a short time, and the auto insurance worker told me that was the reason that at least some if not most parts of Florida tend to be pricey on auto (and other) insurace.

    this made even more sense to me the second time through it. It is true, some social service agencies have the power to designate you homeless/houseless after an interview or two. This will open doors that would otherwise be closed w/o this designation e.g. bump you up a federal housing wait list.

    So I'm here in Laughlin. Went to DMV to talk about becoming a new resident. I'm from So Cal also and in the identical situation as this fellow. However, I think they have caught on to using shelter, food banks as a way to skirt the 30 day requirement. The lady told me they absolutely enforce it. How did he prove residency? He didn't say anything about sowing a receipt. The lady told me they need a computer generated document showing full name and dates.

I have been trying to get mail sent to someone's house in MO for 2 months and somehow they never got 3 pieces of mail that was sent there so finally i did a change of address and that actually worked, got mail sent here so that I have the mail in hand when I go. I wish I'd have known about this before. Its the main thing that has stopped me from getting on the road.

I did some research and Nevada is 49th in the country for health care. Maybe there are other cities nearby that would have better options. Or maybe I’m used to the great health care in my home state. But I would be cautious and do your research if you have medical issues.

It would be nice if Bob would show some flow charts of how to proceed, then I could copy it down. The best solution I can think of is a ghost address that a friend will let me use, however, that address is usually from the state I am leaving and not where I am going to stay. Maybe I am overthinking the whole scenario. The fellow stating he didn't technically fill the form out; therefore, he is legally ok seems weird to me. Short version: how to conduct personal affairs w/o a verifiable residence flow chart.

    Bob , I born in Puerto Rico ,and live here , can we use the Puerto Rico address when travels like a nomad for months in the states ? Or we have to have a local or state address and change the driver’s license?

    I wonder ... If you have a friend in Nevada who owns a home, could you use that friend's address (with the friend's permission, of course)?

    What address do you use on your driver's license? I have a NV driver's license, but when I sell my house...the address on my driver's license won't be correct.

      I would personally use "General Delivery" for an address. You can pick up your mail anywhere in the state that way.

    I have health insurance through a previous employer. Would being "certified homeless" interfere with health insurance (and maybe vehicle insurance) as far as a legitimate residential address?
