It was actually 15 years ago. It was one of those days.. Race was going really well and I was infront of quite a small bunch, when road races gravel section began (Strade Bianchi kind of race). Quite soon I had my first puncture and soon after second one. Those punctures dropped me very far and I almost lost motivation to fight forward. But then I saw my friend coming from behind and I thought to myself "It´s a stage race, so every second counts and who knows, what might happen- have to keep on going". I was looking behind, to see when my friend catches my wheel and suddenly I saw, how my friend swirved quickly to the right, I turned my head forward and BANG. I always wanted M-Frames and after the crash the first thing I asked from the driver was "are my glasses ok?" lol. The funny thing is- I crashed into the commisaires car and I have been cycling commisaire (BMX cross) for 6 years now.
Jesus man! You did a Davis Phinney!! I'll NEVER forget seeing that awful crash & I'm sure that Davis is reminded of it every time he looks in the mirror. Glad you didn't lose your eye, my friend...when I first started following cycling in 1984 (when I was 10 y/o) Hinault & then Lemond were virtual anomalies when they wore sunglasses while racing (& of course, while Hinault's Ray-Bans were rather subtle, Lemond's famous yellow Eyeshades were anything but!!) & now they're 100% ubiquitous!! Man, even without the obvious protection from dust storms & bugs, etc I could never fathom how they could ride in the glaring sunlight (especially in the Alps/Pyrenees & Mont Ventoux would have to be the very worst of the lot on a hot day) without ending up with killer migraines.
Oakley really rocks!! I broke my nose but Oakley shades really save me could of been worst, and not even a scratch on the shades still wear them up to this day, and of course the helmet also help me big time..
My first pair of Oakley is my current flight jacket with photochromic lense. Like it very much. Very functional and stylish. Provides clear vision for my riding from dawn till morning
My first ever Oakley pair was the sutros, amazing sunglasses for cycling snd the prizm lenses are phenomenal, they enhance the colours in a incredible way
As buyer of Oakley for 25 years, I would say the Subzero line and Jawbreakers are also missing from this list. The Subzero and Zero lineup to follow really opened up a frameless design that actually worked well. The jawbreakers with the easily interchangeable lenses and good looks, great coverage, and the ability to customize is still to this day my favorite cycling sunglasses.
I am now 52 and never knew of Asian specific Eyewear till I stopped at a Oakley store 2 years ago. Love my glasses just need to get clear lenses for riding at dusk.

@@leedorney I do. We all know the lenses on cheap glasses smash easily. And like they said in this video, it's about protection 1st. I've ridden straight over legit Oakley's and they were perfectly fine.
#GCN thank you for doing this spot on significant Oakley sunglasses. As a guy who Ride bikes but also could get shot in the face with a shotgun I seriously do appreciate what they do. It’s refreshing to hear them honestly talk that that is one of their priorities over style and certain lines. Hugely important.
I personally opt for the Oakley Radarlock. It provides good protection on the bike, looks good and most importantly has very easily interchangeable lenses. I often take off on a ride when the sun is out and with the Radarlock I swap in my clear or Amber lens when the sun goes down to give me protection from rocks and bugs at night. I now own three pairs, over a dozen lenses and I've even set up one pair with the matching retention strap and some foam floats for taking out on the boat or jet ski.

I don't need RX glasses yet but one of my many pairs of Adidas cycling sunglasses (still BNIB but for my future!) actually has a 'slot' where you place the RX lenses...it might sound crap/ugly but they're incredibly well done & they actually look awesome - made in Austria.

11:30 so tell me again why all Oakley's don't ship with an additional clear ANSI rated lens included for that $200+ price tag to protect your eyes when it's not bright and sunny out? I just keep trying to talk myself into a pair but they are literally the only brand I've looked at that a.) doesn't actually offer good peripheral coverage and b.) doesn't include an extra lens.
Preach, my friend. But I'm guessing that your question is rhetorical, because they would lose money/miss the sales of a separate & overpriced clear lens to willing buyers.
id prefer just a normal 30 second add for sunglasses put into their normal videos. but i guess they know 90% of people would just skip it and they get more views by making something snazzy like this. hiding the word 'ad' on a white background in the thumbnail is a little sneaky though!
They were, so you're not wrong, my friend!! I referred to them as FP's until they released the Heritage Edition of the Eyeshades & even then, I initially thought that they had simply named them for some reason & even all of my Eyeshades have Factory Pilot printed upon each of their microfibre pouches.
I wear radar paths and, truth be told, i do think Oakley tends to be overhyped and expensive plastic. With that said, i do like them and have bought a clear Lens for night riding. Less concerned about debris and more concerned about bugs.
I've only had two (Eyeshade & Razor Blades) but I still have 7 of them - 5 of the former & 2 of the latter! Actually, 6 of the former but one of my 2 yellow pairs of Eyeshades is still BNIB & will remain so until after I'm gone! Still have the original warranty card from more than 30 years ago in the clear box & all.
Wow! The Eye Shades at 12/13 years old blew my mind. What were these things i had to have. Sadly I couldn't afford them but I saved & saved. By the time i had the cash.... Razor Blades. They were my 1st pair. Since then Frogskins, M Frame, Eye Jackets, Racing jackets and so on. Yes its an obsession and i still have them all (except Razors as they got smashed up and i binned them! Oh no!)
Oakley's lenses tend to peel-off like a lizard skin...I have different models with that problem. Many people complain about it and seems to me that Oakley doesn't care to fix that issue!
I worked at a Oakley dealer about a decade about. A guy brought in a pair that had some shrapnel stuck in the lenses from a shooting range. He was requesting we replace the lenses because the shrapnel was in the lenses and didn’t just bounce off. We were a bike shop. We just laughed at him and told him to be happy that shrapnel is not in is his eye. That was when I truly became a fan of Oakleys. If they could do that they were some high quality glasses.

Actually, 6 of the former but one of my 2 yellow pairs of Eyeshades is still BNIB & will remain so until after I'm gone! Still have the original warranty card from more than 30 years ago in the clear box & all.
Harmony fades were The Macho Man Randy Savages!!! Snap into a slim Jim!!! RIP
Straight jacket- wish I could get some replacement lenses.
Oakley Radar EV Path . I am on my 4rth pair now . Lost 3 pairs . Don't care . Best eyeware ever made
What about the "Over the top"?
LOVE it!! How about the Eye Sore? Or the Project OOI (out of ideas/innovations)?
Oh no!)
I'm guessing, then that you're also about 45 y/o, then?! I was fortunate to be a spoiled little shit when I was a teenager!!
insect strikes happen all the time, sunglasses are a must
didn't they give you a few pairs for a competition?
I guess the promotion works, now i want oakleys...
Oakley's lenses tend to peel-off like a lizard skin...I have different models with that problem. Many people complain about it and seems to me that Oakley doesn't care to fix that issue!
M2’s for me please!
Eyeshade-Razor Blade-*FROGSKINS*-Mumbo ...
