I started classical guitar when I was 11 years old. At 13, I bought a Dire Straits album, and knew this was the way I wanted to play! 34 years later, I have most of Knopflers' recordings, and have seen him several times. He has NEVER over-dubbed. I CLEARLY SEE him let the guitar resonate in a power-chord while he wipes his mouth at 0:57, I see him vary his right-hand technique through the solo, see his superb left-hand vibrato, all in sync. Nothing funny going on here, just EPIC playing.
I remember that - I was feeling those drum beats right through my chair! AMAZING NIGHT... thanks for posting. I filmed it but it was from a side angle. That was a GOOD GIG for sure

I was never really sure about what watermarks are or exactly what they look like. But your videos helped me a lot. Thanks. Now I only need to figure out the meaning of the word: Discreet. Danny Cummings (the drummer) had only played 10-15 shows before this show. He stepped in for Chad Cromwell, who had to go home to USA. (For a reason that has been kept secret for a long time)

Thanks for the upload, but that bloody "FARCO" water-mark made me feel sick. What do you have to do with this clip anyway?
writing left handed and play guitar with the right is no big deal. i'm left handed writing, but i'm right handed playing guitar. it's "normal", there's no advantages lol. i love MK. to me, he's THE best. i began learning guitar with no lessons, on my one, because of him. but now i have a problem, i'm so used to play and do solos by fingerpicking, and i don't like picks to play, but there's things you can't do with your hands, and you need a pick, but it's so much better feeling with your finger.
you had to be there. Great video, sure - but to be there at the NEC, the MENArena, City Hall, it was (for me) the Most Incredible Experience. Nazareth even beats the Mandela gig with Clapton and that was just about as good as it gets. And this outro is TONS better than Rome.
Knopfler once said that he can handle the bends better because he's left handed, or something like that. Nothing do to with anything, but just for fun. =)
You should check out Gurrumul Yunupingu. He's blind, plays a right hand strung guitar, left handed. That means the bass strings are at the bottom of the fret board. Forget that though, his voice is subliminal.
@juanreybabe He's not exactly former drummer but more former percussionist (on "On Every Street") and became drummer for MK in alternate mode with Chad Cromwell in early days, then took over.
@praetorianburner Mark isn't underrated, he's just not that widely-known these days. Anyone who hears him play will have to say that he's one hell of an artist. :)

This is probably the audio from a bootleg of the concert that's floating around on the internet. At least I think it's a bootleg, as I see no mention of an official CD of the concert. It's a bit dishonest of the uploader to not mention it, but it's definitely preferable over the crappy audio a camera/mobile phone would give.
@ace69er: argue all you want...the audio you hear IS NO DOUBT from the concert played in the video. who gives a dang if it was patched onto the video! may not be the greatest overlay but it DOES MATCH.
the whole discussion is stupid. the song lives with the guitar and percussion and all the other instruments. you take one out and it won't be the same!

@501fender I am! I am also a sound and recording tecnician! NO camera can record sound THAT good internally. Were external mics used or a desk feed? Otherwise it had to dubbed later. Sorry I have done these thing too mate. And the sound quality does NOT match up to the videos circumstances.

its not because youre writing with the right hand that you'll play with a left handed guitar, when you beginn playing guitar you'll begin at 0 and you don't have any advantage with the right or left hand

MK, like Jeff Beck or David Gilmour are basically Stratocaster masters and I don't know why but they all sound even greater on Les Paul!
