The Mellanox switch quiets down a bit shortly after startup. This one actually settled down VERY quickly. The MSB-7800 36 port 4x EDR Infiniband switch would take anywhere between 5-20 minutes before it would settle down. THAT was pretty ridiculous. Now I use a MSB-7890 externally managed (a.k.a. unmanaged) 36-port 4x EDR Infiniband switch instead and that's rather quiet. At least the server is back to be louder than the switch. ;) Sidebar: If you're running 100GbE network on the QSFP28 ports, it would actually be a bad idea to use the QSFP28 to 4x 10GbE breakout cables because you're not using those ports to the fullest potential/link/PHY capacity.
60 seconds in the penalty box for a wobbling Lazy Susan. :-) Isn't SuperMicro just great with this stuff? Nevertheless, as I asked an Office Depot sales rep one time, "Can it do word processing?" LOL!! We LUV you, Paul.
What's the cost for: 1. this server without the storage? 2. one of the 2TB p4800 NVMe drive? 3. one of the PCI NVMe 375GB cache device? 4. Can this unit with the current setup be ordered online & at what cost? 5. that network switch?
I need a home server for PostgreSQL , this is really loud >.< I think I gotta custom-built haha. Any spec good for database like postgresql? Like more CPu / memory?
Use Two of the Mellanox or other TOR switches - one or even better two 10Gbit or 25Gbit connections from each node to each switch in LACP. The switches connected to each other using MLAG; VLT or vpc, depending on the switch brand, eg: FS; Dell; Mellanox; Cisco, etc: example: th-cam.com/video/2LjNm95iVbg/w-d-xo.html VLT/MMLAG ex : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Link_Trunking
Nice overview! I like how they highlighted the management ports in green. What's the exact model for he switch?
@3:13 - is the CPU heatsink covering one of the memory slots?
HW RAID 1 for M.2 drives are now available with AOC-SMG2-2TM2. It has also been validated with VMware.

Thank you for the video. Is there a follow-up video for the installations?
Nice! Is there a video coming that will show install of esx and vsan with some vm's running?
What would be nice is if there was an internal fabric so that you didn't have to use the external switch.

Didn't catch the switch model.
This is pretty good, is this a TOR switch? Is this optional or pre configured with the model?
mind to do HCIBench test? interested to know if the 2x10g would be bottleneck for optane drive..
