Bro, do a KoRn video, ray luzier is a fucking monster! So was David, then the self titled album there were a few drummers including the singer Jon Davis.
There is just no understating to how inspiring Hawkings and Grohl are to drums, and to music as a whole. Just easily makes anyone really feel the presence of awe-ness that they put forth. Cheers
They inspired me hugely to play music especially, and Taylor helped me realize that rock is my “it” as he said in an interview once. I love them both, and all the Foo Fighters, tremendously ❤
DRUMS ARE LIFE. When I saw his son play, I started to cry. That was a touching moment. And you can see how his son felt while playing. He will be forever missed. Went to a Foo Fighters concert, and the drummer for the opening act (Cage the Elephant) had to have emergency surgery right before the concert... Dave just jumped in and played with Cage before the Foo Fighters.... BEST CONCERT EVER! ❤
Bro, this video style is not only something that I’ve been wanting to see for a long time (a deep dive into different drummers), but also a beautiful tribute to the legendary Taylor Hawkins.
I still cry listening to Taylor's drumming now. It's very hard to listen to my favorite band. I miss Taylor so much. I feel so lucky to have seen him perform twice, I just wish I could've met him. He seemed like an amazing soul.
A tiny correction ; The "In bloom" drums was actually created by Chad Channing. It was recorded by Dave, but the actual drum part was Chad's creation. Great video btw 👍🏽
A tiny correction to your tiny correction. There's an earlier recording/music video for In Bloom featuring Chad on drums before Dave was part of Nirvana, therefore saying Dave was the one on the recording is partially correct...as there are more than one recordings. And like I said, there's a whole other music video for the song from before Nevermind as well.
One of my favorite Taylor moments of his career was helping a band in shambles and recorded the drums for Coheed and Cambria's No World for Tomorrow album when their drummer walked out for years. Taylor crushed writing and recording such an amazing album for the band. And kudos to Josh Eppard, the said drummer walking out, for getting clean and coming back to slay the drums with one of my favorite bands! Great video as always!
How big were they when this happened? I feel like they’ve always been pretty huge so they could’ve got anyone in to do the drums, maybe they just had contact with him and he was the first person they knew to ask??
I'm not a huge FF fan, but saw them live in 2015 on a festival, front row. Still one of the best shows I've ever been to in my life. Dave is an absolute beast full of energy for the full 2.5 hours. And Taylor too! All this passion on stage, the showmanship, the skills, everything. Truly amazing.
Drumz are life! RIP Taylor, he is seriously missed. Just saw Foo Fighters on Sunday and they were fantastic as ever! If anyone can fill Taylor's shoes, Josh Freese is the guy!
I saw Foo Fighters in Dec 2021 and it was epic. I was devastated to hear of Taylor’s passing. He put on an insane show and his performance of “somebody to love” was sooo good.
Great video. The foos are my favorite band and Taylor was and will always be the best rock drummer of all time. His energy was so explosive it’s crazy how one man can have that much energy. RIP Taylor
I consider myself fortunate to have seen the Foo Fighters in person in some podunk add on to their tour with only 6,000 people and they put on a show like you read about. It was epic. They treated everyone to a performance because they respect their fans! And Taylor’s drum solo was equally as epic
Both Dave Grohl and Taylor hawkings are big inspirations of mine. Their insane skills just mesmerize me every time. I've always loved drums and percussion as a whole my entire life and they've made me love it even more. DRUMZ ARE LIFE!!!

I was lucky enough to see the Foo Fighters in 3 different countries over like a 10 period. It might seems silly to say as a 30 something dude that his death upset me so much I cried more than once. They are such an amazing group of people, let alone a band. You also can’t deny Dave and Taylors bromance was adorable. It’s sad knowing we’ll never get another Dave and Taylor Foo Fighters album.
It’s not silly. I’m 23, and EVH’s death legitimately depressed me to the point I had to call out of work for a few days. He’s my hero and got me through the toughest times of my life. The impact that a musician/group can have on people can’t be described by words.
I just love them both, as i do the 2 bands (Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins/Nirvana and Foo FIghters) but if i'm going to be honest about Dave Grohl's drum skills i would put his participation in the Queens of the Stone Age entire album (Songs for the Deaf) and Probot above everything else he has ever done before as a drummer!

I‘m a guitarist singer and producer and taylor and dave are a huge inspiration for me and my music! I‘m not a drummer but their kind of musicianship surpasses drumming for me, it more about the artistic life and i love it just like them! Been a country musician for 20 years, his drumming inspired us. Now that I'm trying to learn drums, I see his genius. Wow just wow, this was awesome to watch.
Drumz are life...awesome video that shows just how music binds us together, as fellow performers, as friends and as family. Thank you, Gabe, for an inspiring and emotional tribute to Taylor, Dave and the Foo Fighters and all they have accomplished. Your passion for the drums and for bringing the joy of drumming to us in the DBO is just as inspiring!
We saw Foo with Taylor in 2019 and again last weekend with Josh. Dude does a great job holding it down! Coincidentally, we also saw your band and you're no slouch either! Edit: I wasnt planning on crying this morning, but "Times Like These" did it to me again just like it did at Sonic Temple.
I am a jazz trained drummer who grew up as a musician listening to Coltrane and Miles albums, but I started with The Beatles and a lot of Taylor's influences. I had a rock band at 16 which was about to go big but the singer was an alcoholic and never since I had tried that again. About a week after Taylor passed away, I went to a rock jam in town and they called up a Nirvana song. I went up to the drums and bashed the kit with all my might. At the end, I just said "This one was for Taylor" and the place erupted. This is how much influence the man has. After this, my drumming style changed more and more and I am now rocking my own post punk band and also got hired by an amazing rock singer songwriter. I now realize, looking back, that without that night at the bar I wouldn't be where I am today, this close to my ultimate dream... so Taylor, if you see this, wherever you are, your spirit will never shop shining upon us!!! ROCK ON!!!!! Rest In Power
I saw the Foos after Dave fell off the stage and it was slightly longer than usual set and Taylor’s energy and timing were incredible. I saw Josh Freese with Offspring and have countless albums he appears on and they could not have found a more suitable replacement.
Completely missed the 18 months when Taylor drummed for Alanis ‘Jagged Little Pill’ live on TH-cam! That’s when Taylor & Dave first met when both bands played at the same festival. Also- I have never read an official report of Taylor’s death. Maybe give other artists their due when Taylor drummed for them first!
Hey! I did learn drums a time a go, and it was really refreshing to hear you. In this days i cannot even read the battery book as you do, so i like your personality, your way to show us this wonderful instrument!👏
What are my idols is Carl Palmer, Carl Palmer from ELP but I grew up in the era of Sergio Mendes, Brazil 66, Mike Shreve, Carlos Santana‘s band and Vern Walton, my very first percussion instructor who was the first founder of the first drum company in San Francisco drum land

Caught a Taylor Hawkins drum workshop like 15+ years ago back when I wasn't really old or aware enough to realise how special that was. Wish I could have it over again. Also drums are life
Really liking this series so far, super interesting to dig into a band's history, whilist also showing what makes each drummer unique. A suggestion for a next band would be MCR, since, like Paramore, they've also had a "revolving door" of drummers.
Thats news to me p.aying with a click,... Where is your feel going to go.Where does your energy come from? I have little interest in robots, other than on some assembly line.
Drumz for life, rip in Taylor you will forever be missed and an inspiration for all musicians not just drummers. Can’t even imagine what Dave is going through losing 2 amazing band mates. Rip Taylor Hawkins and Rip Kurt Cobain.
@@stanfordkoch1271 No. I'm sorry - just, no. Yes, I know how much of a monster Josh is. I fully understand that his ability on paper is probably superior, technically and what not. But to say that he's of "another caliber" than someone who caused an audience to create an earthquake is just insane. His energy was unmatched, period. He got me back into my love of rock drumming after I had given up years ago and I'm now in two bands and very close to the dream after having played for 20 years and giving up on my own band 10 years ago before doing it again. Taylor was my primary inspiration for this. And, I'm a jazz trained drummer who hadn't played rock in years. Think about this.
Dave Grohl must be one amazing dude. To have played and written songs alongside Nirvana's troubled yet amazingly talented Kurt Cobain, then pull himself together to form his one-man-band Foo Fighters, grow it all again with talent of the likes of Taylor Hawkins, only to lose him too to overdose. How heartbreaking. How powerful. How soulful a man is David Grohl. Amazing. Respect.
@3:45 ... I was just thinking the other day that Rick has been able to milk that ONE song ... and ONLY that song for 40 years or more. What a song that it can carry a singer like that for 40 YEARS !!!
Drumz are life! I’m a lifetime member, and I have learned a lot from the DBO academy but I which I can win this electronic drum set since a I live in a apartment is difficult to practice
Didn’t even mention Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders amazing AMAZING band, songwriting, and him singing lead on most all of the songs. Next to foos and coheed and cambria, and maybe one or two other bands, I mean, his own band? In my top 5 bands ever. Great video anyway. made me cry again even though it’s been two years at this post? I heard your voice get graveley…. And. I immediately remembered where I was: with my girlfriend outside her apartment. She walked up to meet me and, I said that one of my biggest (rock) drumming influences is dead. And I got her more into foo fighters so she knew what it was about. ..And we also were both in active addiction at the time, so… Now I have a year clean, and I’m playing more gigs and, I am greatful for all their inspiration, and your video too, again!
Drums are life. And can’t forget that Z…😂 great video I’m just getting into the drums at the age of 35 and trying to learn along side my 12 year son. 🤙🏼
I think for people who live and love rock music, the loss of him will always be one void that never goes away. Like John lennon, Bob Marley, janis joplin, amy winehouse, hendrix, Kurt, Taylor will be missed every day. Cried my eyes out through this video. So amazing to see just how loved he was in those tribute shows. My heart breaks for Dave, Losing Kurt broke him, so to go through it again I just cant even imagine what he must be going through ❤ Dave Grohl is a world treasure, and I will fight anyone who says any different ❤ #theregoesmyhero
Many drummers these days just don't know that you're supposed to hit drums hard. Drummers from the 90s really had that part nailed down. Big drums, big cymbals, hard hits.
Grohl, Hawkins, Taylor, Bonham, Copeland, Tre Cool are all my inspirations. I don't play as often as I used to or as often as I should these days but my days in bands were some of the best. I've never used a metronome live and rarely in practice as I have perfect time. And a drummer has to hit hard. If you can't be heard, you can't drive the band
Long time listener--- first time caller. I was definitely worried/hoping you were good after noticing you hadn'tposted in a while. Didn't realize I'd feel that like idk you m8. That being said--- yes. Just find the love again. Don't overthink. You've captured a niche.
Drumz are life! Actually dave said he gives the drumming credit role for the song ‘in bloom’ to Chad Channing the drummer of nirvana before he took over! Chad was the one who created that beat! He said that in his new book the storyteller
Great video and I love the tiny microphone. I’ve been an EMT for almost a decade… there’s no such thing as a collapsed heart. Opiate overdose causes you to stop breathing (respiratory arrest) while your heart keeps pumping. As your blood is depleted of oxygen (fuel for cells in the body including heart cells) your heart begins to die. When there is no oxygen left for your myocardial cells (heart muscle cells) to use it stops pumping (cardiac arrest) RIP to the millions of people that have died from drug overdose.
dave grohl is the drummer who lost his frontman, and the frontman who lost his drummer... i couldn't even begin to imagine how hard that is to go through
It is true. It’s hilarious you holding that little baby Mic 🎤 I am really enjoying your video. I am only three minutes in but I wanted to already make a comment. I’m sure I will bust out another one back to the video. Thanks again.
Taylor was a true inspiration!!! Even now just watching this bring tears to my eyes of how much of a role model he was to the drumming community!!! He was one of maybe a handful of drummer I wanted to actually meet and talk with. ❤
Dave didn't play drums on In Bloom. He said so at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction, naming the guy who did. Grohl and Novaselic were upset that they couldn't bring the previous drummer.

“Geddy and Alex” from Rush
Really liking this series so far, super interesting to dig into a band's history, whilist also showing what makes each drummer unique.
A suggestion for a next band would be MCR, since, like Paramore, they've also had a "revolving door" of drummers.
A drummer. WHO PLAYS WITHOUT A CLICK LIVE??? OMG, can you imagine a world where somebody does that???😮😮😮
Thats news to me p.aying with a click,...
Rip Taylor Hawkins and Rip Kurt Cobain.
not only that but band mates you considered best friends. Forget music lesons, I want to learn how to be as strong emotionally as him.
Drums are life! I'm a newbie! Thank you!
Josh Freese has brought the band to another level. Just outstanding
I agree, another caliber then Taylor
No, Taylor feeling, power and creativity was on another level.

holy shit, this was such a heart touching video.
Gab's tiny mic is LOVE, DRUMZ ARE LIFE!
Drums are life!
The Foo Fighters are the sole reason I have taken up the drums. Wanting to match this energy and freedom at 53!
I'm a hack on drums when it comes to These 2 iconic drummers, I wish I had half the talent. thank god I have my songwriting talent to fall back on.
I LOVE DRUMS
I really miss seeing Taylor Hawkins drum. RIP you are greatly missed
I was front row at that earthquake making foo fighters gig.. most epic night ever!
Drumz are life! R.I.P to the legend Taylor Hawkings probably the reason why I started drumming in the first place. Fly High!
Do it with Dave Lombardo drummer of Slayer
Drumz are life!
I’m a lifetime member, and I have learned a lot from the DBO academy but I which I can win this electronic drum set since a I live in a apartment is difficult to practice
Drumz are life. Seen a replay of an interview with Taylor recently no doubt an awesome Drummer.
Didn’t even mention
Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders
amazing AMAZING band, songwriting, and him singing lead on most all of the songs.
And I got her more into foo fighters so she knew what it was about.
..And we also were both in active addiction at the time, so…
Now I have a year clean, and I’m playing more gigs and, I am greatful for all their inspiration, and your video too, again!
Drums are life. And can’t forget that Z…😂 great video I’m just getting into the drums at the age of 35 and trying to learn along side my 12 year son. 🤙🏼
Drums are life. Great video. Can’t wait to see the Foo Fighters perform again.
Thank you so much for your sincere love and support for our music 💞 we are forever rosy🌹. Have you been to our show?
Just went to see i prevail at dos equis! Yall were amazing!
That's awesome!! So glad you had a good time 🤘
I bought 2 item in Sweetwater... ibanez guitar and zoom g3xn because they're the only shop that can ship here in Palau.
Taylor will never be replaced, RIP Taylor
Many drummers these days just don't know that you're supposed to hit drums hard. Drummers from the 90s really had that part nailed down. Big drums, big cymbals, hard hits.
Drums are life! Having a dozen different substances in your body at the same time ISNT!
That was awesome. Those jaw jackets look sweet
It's pretty amazing that Foo's had Dave, Taylor and now Josh!
Of course there was William too, but the less said about that, the better.
Drums are Life! So wish Taylor was still here. His son is pretty amazing too!
Thank you for this video! It made my day!
Drumz are life! Actually dave said he gives the drumming credit role for the song ‘in bloom’ to Chad Channing the drummer of nirvana before he took over! Chad was the one who created that beat! He said that in his new book the storyteller
He will be greatly appreciated and missed ❤️!!
@D R od
Drums! I did a Taylor too when I was 11, it just clicked 🤘🤘
Great video, really tells how hard it is to become a drummer for one of the biggest drummers. Drumz are life.
El estapario siberiano....nail it all
Incesticide. Thank you Dave. Saved my life 30 years ago dude. Drums. Yeah.
Taylor left us a gift SHANE!! THE 🔥DESTROYER 🔥🦅🥁🥰
Drumz are life!
this is incredible Gabe, Taylor was an incredible drummer, he will be missed !!
When there is no oxygen left for your myocardial cells (heart muscle cells) to use it stops pumping (cardiac arrest)
RIP to the millions of people that have died from drug overdose.
Drumz are life RIP Taylor man easily one of my earliest inspirations.
dave grohl is the drummer who lost his frontman, and the frontman who lost his drummer... i couldn't even begin to imagine how hard that is to go through
Well done. Thanks. _Godspeed, Taylor._ 👑💔
"Drumz are life" Thanks for the awesome content!
Dude I was trying to enjoy my Sunday not cry again. 😢 Damn you!! Great job brother. Taylor Hawkins Forever!!
It is true. It’s hilarious you holding that little baby Mic 🎤
I am really enjoying your video. I am only three minutes in but I wanted to already make a comment. I’m sure I will bust out another one back to the video. Thanks again.
Finally going to see them at Louder Than Life this year. It's a shame that Taylor won't be on stage, but he'll definitely be with the crowd.
Drumz are life! 🙌🏼
