It’s hard to imagine that this games contemporaries were Halo 2, Midnight Club 3, CoD2, GTA:SA. It’s just not even close. There is so much that you can unpack in every fight - the way the combine fights together and turns corners and together and sequences their movements, the detail on the gravity gun, the deeply interesting story around the combine, the graphics that still somehow hold up today. I don’t blame valve for not wanting to disappoint - they dominated the industry so hard that it was just impossible to follow without people saying, “yeah but HL2 was better.”
I‘m playing it right now for the first time ever with the VR mod. It definitely is an amazing tech demo but everything else I like more in other games of the time. Probably because Halo 2 was the first game I’ve ever completed at the age of 6 or so and GTA:SA being my favorite GTA (like it far more than 4 and 5). I’m really trying to get involved in the story of Half Life 2 but to me personally it’s a lot less compelling than Halo 2s for example. Shooting is also more fun in Halo 2, weapons feel more distinct. But yeah I’ll definitely give Half Life 2 the nod for the capabilities of the engine. Just way less astonishing if you’ve never played it back in the day.
My half life and portal timeline 1943: aperture science was established. 1949: Wallace breen was born. 1951: aperture science was established. 1957: Eli Vance was born. 1960: Issac kliener was born. 1964: Arne Magnusson was born. 1967: Judith mossman was born. 1970: Collette Green was born. 1974: Gordon Freeman, Barney Calhoun, and Doug Ratman were born. 1977: Adrian Shepard was born. 1988: cave Johnson died and Caroline became CEO of aperture science. 1997: alyx Vance was born. 2001: glados killed all the scientists at aperture science. The events of half life 1 and seven hour war happened. 2005: the events of portal happened. 2016: the events of half life alyx happened. 2018: the events of portal 2 happened. 2021: the events of half life 2 happened.
Why did you said that aperture science was established twice, or did you mean Black mesa ? And by the way, Half life actually takes place in 2004 and the 7 hours war happened few years after it And alyx is in 2019 while 2 is in 2024
one of those things that are like tall bugs blows it up and then you can pass, you have to be seen by the bug, if it stills not work, you have to die and try again
2:45:42 I remember this part being a lot harder, and with a lot more enemies, and with maybe even like turrets set up? I just played through it and was so baffled by how few troopers it sent at me that I went online trying to find if others were having the same experience.
