Ashlands Prep E02: Departure - Full Valheim Playthrough

- Hey Vikings! I wanted to have a casual world set up for when Ashlands comes out and I invite you on the journey to get there! I've got combat set to hard (for at least the first 6 biomes), deaths are allowed, and I generally have a fun, casual time of it. I do a little building and decorating, and the usual amount of slaying. I proceed through the game in my typical fashion but I shift my approach in the Mistlands to more of a completionist mindset, desiring to have fully upgraded EVERYTHING from the Mistlands in order to be amply prepared for when the Ashlands drop!

I was just about to write: oh, this time Thread only does microfarming. At exactly that moment you decided to seriously build a reasonable farm, which is of course kind of huge. You can always be counted on!😂 Nice long weekend episode with a lot of stuff happening!

I'm watching this while I have the seed map up. It's pretty cool seeing what is around the corner before Thread gets to it. At Around 3:28 he is just around the corner from discovering Yagluth but instead of continuing west he heads south and misses him. Dang, lol

29:00 Seriously, this Farm's so tiny, the Shamans would need a magnifying glass to even find it! I'm pretty sure farms this small violate some ancient Viking farming code, though.

I did see the gamma comment and looked at the elder fight but wasn't in a good position to respond. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Elder fight totally did look gross though! Bulk of this is already recorded but I've cut the gamma number in half for future stuff. I want to strike a balance where the game looks good but I'm not forced to wear a dvergr circlet all the time like some other youtubers/streamers seem compelled to do! XD I need my armor points!!! I appreciate the input!

I'm slowly catching up on this. Just wanted to say thank you for the vids. I'm not usually a fan of long form content like this, but it works really well here. I have over 700 hrs on Valheim and I still learned quite a bit by watching how you play so far. Lots of little things that no one else has ever put in their little "10 tips/100 days" videos. I find this far more entertaining than heavily edited vids that just play to the algorithm rather than just playing the game. Much appreciated.

a super fun little move with the knife is jumping away from an enemy and power attacking back towards them while still in the air! doesn't really help anywhere I know of but it's style points and who needs physics! sorry if you already knew this :P I just found out!
Ooooh, I really like the sound of that and don't think I've tried it! Sometimes I S-key roll back then lunge forward but your way sounds cooler and cheaper from a stamina perspective, I'll def be trying it!

RNG in Valheim is a love/hate relationship. You scored on the altar-finding side of things but damn that Haldor! And honestly, I kept crossing my fingers, hoping for amazing crypts and every time you opened a chest and there wasn’t any iron, I felt that pain. We’ve all had those moments in this game and that’s one of the things I love about Valheim-a little surprise (awful or amazing) around every corner. Even when I hate the RNG I love it too, lol.
Hope the weekend was as cozy as was planned! I feel the exact same way about the ol' RNG even if I sometimes get complain-y about it, haha!

2:15:41 bro, if you need a builder to join on one of these let a guy know lol. Im ocd in the same way with storage needing to be organized, your to busy mapping and staging the next boss fight to do it all your only one man haha.
On my save I just finished fine tuning the auto chicken farm so it works good, you just drop seeds and walk away. Come back in a bit and the new chickens have forced the old full grown ones out of a tunnel onto fires which kills them so you just run past n collect every so often. The chamber where the eggs land and hatch makes a big difference in efficiency, took a bit of trial and error.
I need a full blown Haldor expedition in the next episode. I love checking your seed for him so I can laugh when you're close to him and never find him

I was sketchin out wonderin why you were cruising ocean biome without arrows, then finally seen the stack of 82 flint arrows. I had a pucker factor of like 80/100 prior to seeing them lmao, waiting for the serpent spawn
My hubby and I have the exact same graphics cards. We have different monitors. Neither of us have changed any video options. His game is super dark and mine isn't and it's really weird. The only thing I can think of is it's the monitor.
and you are sure all the video settings ingame are the same? try looking through the menus on the monitor itself for settings such as"gamer1,2,3" etc
or even if HDR mode is on
Weeeeirrrrrrddd. For my case I'm assuming I changed some settings a long time ago to make it a little easier to see and that they got reset to default. If it were just me I'd prolly play darker but I see other youtubers and streamers always wearing dvergr circlet and I'm just not down with that, haha, Hats are usually 40% of my armor number or something XD

3:14:10 looked like a good place for a farm. Pre-made village on the shore at the edge of Meadows, Plain and Forest with some Mountain thrown in.

Just so you know, i've been experiencing some sound glitches too. I dunno if it was the driver update or the last large game update back in november, but it's still not fixed for me. Anyway, great content, as usual!
Yeahhhh, saw lots of reports about it when they updated the game engine. And outside of that I have my own separate audio issues on my end that cause that crazy "audio strobe light" effect that I don't hear while I'm playing, but it messes up my recordings. Nothing I've tried has fixed that yet. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH. I hope the devs address the game-side stuff though.
@@ThreadMenace yeah, the audio strobe light effect is kinda annoying but at least it doesn't last too long. And everytime there is an engine update I take a deep breath, because of another strobe light effect, this time with the dverger circlet. Since july last year this awful effects happens everytime you point the circlet towards the ground and it was never fixed. I mentioned it to the developers on their discord, but they said only the engine devs could fix it, so whatever bugs are created by the engine dont get fixed fast enough
Thread, How do you plant so close together? Do you simultaneously press direction and left click? you make it look so easy. Thanks for the vids!
I pretty much **alternate** between pressing S/W and left click. Tap w, click, tap w, click, w, click, all while trying really hard not to move the camera/mouse at all
Just got to ashlands on my main world, watching these now, I don't think I was ever going to be fully prepped. I spent 4 in-game days farming for materials for as many potions and BiS food as I could. you have to fight EVERY inch to do anything. My honest opinion? It needs to be toned down. I literally can't go 2 ft. without having to fight 7 mobs at a time.
not a great time TBH. It's super cool, i will admit. but it's too much.

3). Mobs need to be toned down TBH. You are ambushed so often and it feels SO overwhelming.
Yeahhhhhh it was definitely a deathstravaganza for me at first. I'd like to think I'm figuring it out but still rough for sure!
Querstion, what's the best method to find the merchant and other NPCs without cheating and looking at the seed in the map viewer? Are there certain landmarks or things to look for?
it's just roaming around, really. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ One spawns anywhere in the black forest, pretty much and the other in meadows that are a little further out. You can press , to zoom out the minimap, two clicks is usually good, and an icon will appear on your map if you get close enough
What are the map markers he spawned in with for sealed tower and mountain cavern has he played on this seed before
Naw seed is random but we found Hildir. She has a little map table in front of her and if you interact with it you get those markers
Man, I feel like the game was kinda trolling you 😂 Walked right into Bonemass then found Hildir, Yag and Moder pretty easily, but Haldor is nowhere to be found. Hopefully he'll show his blue little face soon!
I always have to laugh because he's always at Elder in the speedruns where I don't need him! Got a feeling we find him this time though ;)

Haha, I'm not even using anything like that in my modded run but I probably should be! I'll be constraining this run to vanilla for sure though
@@ThreadMenaceUnless you're running for an official challenge I don't consider the mod cheating much... It lets you plant a neat 5x5 in one shift-click with the cultivator or pluck a bunch of same-types within ~5m radius with a single shift-E.... Such QoL should be vanilla IMO!
I 2nd this mod, it saves you literal hours.
Did anyone know about the log out method to keep a levitation from going under? Not sure if it still works and unsure if that is considered cheating in your eyes Thread.
I'm 99.9% that's still a thing. I don't really call anything in casual solo play "cheating" but yeah that's a thing I didn't really wanna do in this playthrough
is knifing(razor) small trees the fastest early game wood?
Eh, it might be the fastest way to get TWO wood, but doesn't create any benefit such that it's worth going out of one's way for, getting the razor early, etc. A level 3 or 4 flint axe will probably one-hit a PAIR or saplings with fairly low skill, which would make that a faster way to get FOUR wood, hahaha
