- Melissa and I take the Ice Castle Fish House Camper on its maiden hardwater adventure. Over 3 miles out on the ice. The truck and fish house weigh about 19,000 pounds combined.

All 3 dogs are with us. We had a great time out on the ice. Ice fishing. Watching movies. Cooking and attending the ICOG (ice castle owners group) 9th annual get together for the raffle. We were on Upper Red Lake in Minnesota and went out of JR's Corner Access.

You can buckle the seat belts before you get in the truck so it's buckled up behind your back then after you get off the ice you can but on your seat belts the right way

Quite the digs you got there Joe. If you ever needed extra beds at the Tent you could park it there. Of course when family descends on you at the farm, it's always helps to have it there as well. True saying. You can camp in a Ice Castle but you can't fish outta a camper. PS if you put an extra muffler on your generator, you wouldn't even hear it run. Friend of mine did that on a motor home, and I barely noticed it was running. Put a bigger gas tank on it as well so it will run 3 days on a tank.
To a Southern, like me, this is all so foreign, but exciting! Fishing frozen over lakes is just completely unimageable. It looks like a great adventure. It's great to see all the comforts that you have put into your fish house. What a great event. Hope you start catching some fish. Your preparations looks like they paid off. Hope all of this outing goes great for y'all, and just turns into a great time. Joe, you seem to have a gift of thinking ahead, and assuring you have all the items you may need, just in case! Your Bluetti uses Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, and they don't like being cold. The have to be at least in the mid-thirties before they will charge. Their run-time will also decline significantly in cold temps. I'd find a way to keep it inside.
Keep any batteries inside in that cold.
Well since I do promotional videos for Bluetti, the fact that I test them in severe conditions is what they really like.
@@NorthernSeclusion Basic safety and operations in Arctic conditions of battery power supplies dictates you will get the unit in some sort of shelter detached from living quarters. That's how we were taught and operated in the USCG. Bluetti can brag all they want in their commercials...

Love the set up, now this is ice fishing in style, dig the light up reel set up is epic, those dam rib eyes over charcoal got me Hungry lol. The only thing i would add is a small miniature wood stove, takes little amount of wood to heat that entire camper.

Looks like fishing in the castles is sadly coming to an end early this year. Glad you got out!
Fishing season ends on February 25th so it isnt really being cut short but instead it took forever to get here. Usually single axle houses can get out by Christmas eve and tandems like ours get the ok about New Years eve. Not this year.

We’ve been on Little bay Denoc all week and only caught 1 walleye and couple pike ugh, We marked a bunch of fish but couldn’t buy a bite, love the vids by the way, I don’t miss any!

I don't blame you for not wanting to get to close to "where the action is". I am inching closer to 70 and I like where I live. Though I am on a main throughfare in the town I live in since Covid-19 hit the morning traffic is about gone. We do get the occasional Emergency and Police Vehicles but you are going to get that sound if you live anywhere their is a town. Looks like a fun place to be for fishing. I am not a big fish eater so I wonder if Ice fishing "fish" taste different than fish caught in the oceans?

You will have to park closer to the action next time to make some friends.
More action = less fish and more of a hassle bringing the dogs out on leashes.

No, but insurance covers it and we insured it for more than we paid for it. Lol.
does your ice castle have an escape hatch in case it were to go through the ice ? may wana incorporate one in the roof. just saying
They do not go down when you are all set up, the weight is distributed and we have dates when they have to be off the ice because of ice conditions. The only time you see them go in is when people are driving and pulling them and they are stupid enough to go where the resorts told them NOT to go.
So how long did the bluetti run all night with heater going?? Did it last 9 hours
I will cover that in great detail in the next video which will be public on Saturday at 5 central. It is already edited. It would run it about 8 hours in the 20 degree weather but the one morning it was only 14 degrees and we had a second fan going inside (ac fan) and that night it went a little over 6 hours. The Bluetti AC200L ran the electric and it also was charging the existing Ice Castle batteries so after the AC200L was done, everything that runs on battery in the fish house is then running on fully charged batteries. That thing worked awesome.
Just wondering why you brought two trucks?
In case I have truck or camper trouble is one reason. Chunky and Joanie are getting very old and can not get into my truck unless we lift them in, they can get right into Melissa's. In the summer Melissa always pulls the boat and I pull the camper. Lots of times in the summer I will go up first and she will come up after work. Pick whichever reason you want. It is just what we do.

What's with all the flags?
Most people with Ice Castle fish houses fly the flag. Most people fly 2 flags. We are going to get a second flag as well. One that says "Joe and Melissa" and Melissa wants to get another one we can put up this time of year instead of the Joe and Melissa one that is Mardi Gras themed since it is Mardi Gras right now in Louisiana. Some people put another flag pole on the back of their Castles so they can fly 2 more flags. One of them is always the American flag.

On red lake we walk put on 4-7 inches of ice sometimes even 2 inches on other lakes 😅

Get a hold of Hutch Mountain about a propane conversion for your generator. It means you don’t have to carry gas and it burns longer for weekend trips. We love ours.
Annie is such a lucky doggy to have stopped by your farm on that day. She looks very happy & settled. ❤️

How classic hearing grumpy old men movie playing in the background while ice fishing. Love it!!!
Pro tip: put that auger on reverse and you can shoot that slush right down the hole and never have to scoop again.
We did that with every hole but you still get some residual and some that falls out of the slush bucket.
@@NorthernSeclusion Sometimes we have to do it twice to get a clean hole. Another thing we like to do is drill the holes before we drop the house down. That helps with slush management, too. Usually make sure we have the extension on the auger for that. Awesome to see you guys got it out. You know, it'll all become so routine after a while. Cheers!

This was really fun to watch! It’s all so foreign to me. Camping on a frozen lake, an ice fishing RV that lowers to the ground, literally fishing/cooking and showering inside a fish trailer!?! Very jealous of you guys, makes me think how much more out there is just another day for some folks. But the best part for me is knowing your grandkids will someday have video of how you lived and will be able to see what made you happy. And having you narrate these adventures will be that much more special. Cheers 🍻

Joe, from someone who lives in the south and mostly fish for bass, this is something I've always wanted to do. I thought about seeing if they rent structures out over the winter that are setup and all you have to do is bring your food and clothes. I'm a weather bug and keep an eye on different parts of the country and looks like you guys have stayed fairly warm this winter considering what it's normally like. Is your ice as thick as it normally gets? Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed this.
Most of the resorts have "sleeper shacks" that they have out there just for what you are asking. Most are not quite as nice as the Ice Castles but still quite nice. They have some that are even nicer than the Castles. They even have 2 story shacks. Up on LOTW you can get package deals where they even bring your meals out to you. They will come out and check on you every day to make sure you are doing good and see if you need anything. They might even do that on Upper Red lake like where we were in this video but we only did a package deal on LOTW (Lake of the woods) You can even bring your fish to the lodge and they clean them for you. Take it one step further and not only do they clean them for you but they also cook your fish for you. You just go to then restaurant/bar area and they cook them and bring them to your table. Pretty much anything you can think of they have up here. They have bars right out on the ice that you can drive to and get a drink. They even have holes drilled in there so you could fish while you are enjoying whatever is happening at the ice bar. The ice was 19.5 inches thick, I would say that between 19 and 26 is about where it would usually be. On a real cold year of course it would even be thicker. The ice is also thicker where the ice roads are because as people drive on the ice it pushes that cold down making it thicker. You can drive up and park at whatever lodge you are going out of and if you do not want to drive on the ice, they will shuttle you out to your sleeper house.
You didn't catch many fish, but it looks like you enjoyed yourselves. That's all that matters.

Love my Bluetti's! Holy $hizzz balls is this the set up! I believe there is a new word for this. Glamping and Fishing = Glishing! Awesome setup. Could it be too much noise for the fish? Could you do the Ryobi 18v water pump and filter through an RV hose filter as well?

You washing the potato reminds me of Harie, Japan. Villagers there share the wash basin with carp in the waterways. Each house has a pool connected to the canal. The carp eat the rubbish and they fertilize the water that is used in growing crops. The whole circle of life thing.

So does your house have a spare propane tank holder on the passenger side?
It holds 4 tanks. 2 for the forced air furnace and 2 for the wall mound direct vent furnace. Since it was no where near cold enough to have to use the direct vent, I just have those 2 tanks as the extras for the forced air. Yes it has dual tank holders on both the right and left side front.
I'm with ya Joe on staying away from those jello shots n stickn to plain jello. Gotta stay away from that party scene period, I'm just to old for that😂😂. Bein on that lake was truly beautiful even when it was foggy. Glad yal had a good time and I'm sorry you didn't win the raffle😢. Maybe next year. The kids seemed to enjoy their adventure too😅.
