"So he actually did get burned?" Nah, Jogo put fake fire around him for fun.
Yeah 🥹
😂😂😂
I guess they forgot how fire works
To be fair though, some animes/manga have characters get hit by supposedly super burning attacks and the only effects they have after is having like darker reddish skin drawn with some lines to show that they're 'burnt' but not really. I thought this was the case here and perhaps only the old man would get KO'd because of his injuries but looking at Nanami, I'm wondering if Maki got turned into deep fried maki sushi
@@Mukatutu she got a lot hotter to say the least (pun intended)
Y'all wanted Sukuna to show up... SUKUNA. SHOWED. UP.
Yup now they get it , Sukuna is no friend and never will be.
man sukuna is basically a walking-disaster.
@@josecanal7556 yeah It's what I liked about season one. They knew there were other similar anime and similar tropes and deliberately did things differently. The good kind of subversion.
Junpei was in the opening credits and it's made to make the audience think he's the trope of initial enemy turned ally/friend/team member. Nope, he got Mahito-ed.
Naruto-Kurama and Itadori-Sukuna parellel is easy to draw upon. But the huge difference is Sukuna does above and beyond to antagonize Itadori and practically everyone when he comes out. Kurama "the scary demon... (retconned into tailedbeast and then later justified why Kurama was the tame one) ... was always just a power up (until it became friends). Whenever Kurama manifested, there was always a secret emergency seal inside Naruto, or someone can seal it. Sukuna went out swinging day one and consistently did damage that had major consequences. Yuji "died" and was away for a while. When he called on Sukuna for a power up, he got laughed at and mocked. No neee to explain what happened in this episode. Sukuna is disaster incarnate. Kurama got retconned to just a misunderstood softie, but even when he was just a demon, he was still just a power up
It's hilarious they wanted this guy help
@@harshraj9266 tbh, he actually help defeating Jogo and that ass of a hole blonde hair guy, but the way he did was just.....brutal and no mercy.

I can see that. He never realised what a responsibility he has to get stronger to curb that being into submission forever. We as human have the tendency to say "I get it" when we actually are far from getting it. That wasteland is super clear now. It has to have dept to be credible and not revert too much to "happy go lucky" team adventures. Sure I want some levity because otherwise it gets heavy and we can feel it, but you can't go nuke and do a 1080 back to what it was very quick.
The Liberty they take is not earned. At all. Random stuff is cut, random stuff is added,
now weven get Things randomly renamed AND we get a Narrator??

I do wish they had a bit of a 'WTF' reaction on their face though after sukuna's obliteration of that radius in Shibuya. If you judged solely on how they're acting it looks like nothing happened 😂

they're using the opening at the end because of the lyrics of the song perfectly encapsulates yuji's situation in that moment
"can Inumaki tell Sukuna to stop"
It's a nice idea haha, but the mechanic for that is it's dependent on the power gap between Inumaki and his target, using his cursed speech on HANAMI was enough to get him coughing up blood and passing out after a couple of uses, if he tried to use it on Sukuna, his heart would probably just explode.
Would it still work tho? It worked on hanami. Maybe he can killhimself but take sukuna with him maybe...
@@DNephilim probably not
Hanami just shrugged it off the first few times. which would make even an attempt on Sukuna lethal to potentially zero effect,
and I think it probably had a reduced effect compared to what he wanted even when it did work if he's shouted "Blast Away" full force at a normal cursed spirit he'd probably blast them to the sun. Hanami was just knocked a few dozen metres back.

@@blacky8987what are you talking about?
I think you guys misunderstood why the OP song played. It’s not just as simple as, “oh how cute, they played the song at the end.” If you actually bother to translate the lyrics, it’s basically describing EVERYTHING Sukuna did after he woke up.
So the song isn’t undercutting Yuji. It’s TAUNTING him. It’s tormenting him. It’s Sukuna singing, “Look at the all the fun we just had. Don’t pretend like you had nothing to do with it, because you and me, are SPECIAL.”
To be fair, 90% of people do not go out of their way to translate lyrics
@@gavo7911I just took as this song is not happy and dark feeling, so playing the op here after a tragedy is making the Dotson even feel worse
*Yuji sees the destruction caused by Sukuna's fight*
Chris: "How are you okay?"
There's a reason the Shibuya Incident is known as the point in the story where Yuji loses his smile.
I don't understand how this show just keeps getting better, it's genuinely mind boggling
Thank Gege and the animators
25:00 I think the point was not to undercut Yuji's outburst, but to mock it. Because remember, this is after their promotion.
" 'You are the special'. How special are you feeling right now, Yuji?"
That theme song kicking in at yuji's lowest just sets the tone for the whole manga
The reason why they used the op for itadoris breakdowns bc the lyrics are in the perspective of sukuna mocking him lmao
Ending of this episode was hilarious “you are my special” when yuji was having a breakdown
It’s heartbreaking because itadori mental state just broke and who knows how he will deal with this trauma or recovery from this. Happy go itadori might be gone.
Sukuna is powerful enough to avoid casualties. He just doesn't give af.
Trivia on Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga
The technique's name is based on the race of deities "Mahoraga" (摩ま睺ご羅ら伽が Magoraga?) in Buddhism, described as having the appearance of an enormous serpent (other variants can describe it as having the body of a man with the head of a snake). The term eight may also be inspired by the Eight Legions of divine races known as the "Aṣṭasenā/Aṣṭauparṣadaḥ" (天てん龍りゅう八はち部ぶ衆しゅう Tenryū-Hachi Bushū?), which the Mahoraga is one of.
The wheel on the Divine General's back represents the Dharma, which the Mahoraga and the other deities defend from harm.
The incantation to summon the Divine General is a term from the "Furunokoto" (布ふ瑠るの言こと?), a chant in Ancient Japan used to resurrect the deceased. "Furube" (布ふ瑠る部べ?) has the kanji "fu" (布) for Fusen/Bujian (An ancient coin of curreny from China), as well as the kanji "ru" (瑠) for lapis or any gem, and the rendaku-afflicted particle "(h/b)e" (べ) indicating an action towards something. The two characters "布ふ瑠る" can combine to create an idiom for wealth/treasure. "Yurayura" (由ゆ良ら由ゆ良ら?) has the Man'yōgana phonetic characters of the mimetic term for "swaying, shaking or ringing".
"Where are the women and children...this will be a massacre, says Sukuna in the very first episode when he's introduced. He has just kept his word in this episode with all the executions he's carried out in Shibuya.
No spoilers this is just clarification for the Subtitles this episode.
Makora = Mahoraga the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General
Malevolent Kitchen = Malevolent Shrine
Dissect = Dismantle
Fillet = Cleave
It seems like they just used the literal Japanese translations for this episode and not the official translations provided by the manga. Makora might be intentional though the Kanji when it was revealed in chapter 117 the same chapter today's episode adapted translated to Makora but the manga called it Mahoraga instead which is the sanskrit translation. So the Anime might be keeping Makora to keep it accurate to the japanese translation from now on instead of the sanskrit translation. Malevolant Kitchen is actually the proper translation based off of the kanji that is used in the manga. The mizushi-dokoro (御厨子所, mizushi-dokoro?) is an archaic word referring to a section of the Emperor's residential compound in the Imperial Palace, where food from the kitchen compound, meant for the Emperor's meals, would be brought for more advanced stages of preparation. The second character zu/kuriya (厨, zu/kuriya?) means "kitchen". But in episode 4 of Season 1 and chapter 8 of the Manga Sukuna's domain is called Malevolent Shrine not Malevolent Kitchen so that's definitely not supposed to be in the episode but Sukuna was definitely cooking this episode 🔥
Ty for spreading this info.
Kitchen makes sense for Sukuna abilities he was probably some kind of a cannibal God, his abilities are literally two cutting techniques and a fire technique
It's especially perplexing because in S1 it was Malevolent Shrine.
@@XLamonteCoxX Ye the manga his domain is Malevolent Shrine.
@miracleyang3048 Ye but the actual version is malevolent shrine but ye kitchen makes sense as well but doesn't have the ring to it like shrine.
Makora (Mahoraga) is the most powerful shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique, the ultimate trump card of zenin clan, throughout its entire history no user has been able to tame it, what gojo said to megumi was very important because it basically killed the copy of gojo long time ago (yes it's that strong) if sukuna was at 4 fingers in that moment even he would've been cooked
These animators deserve all the money and the world for this masterpiece of art.
Shibuya Arc is one of my favourite manga arcs of all time. It is one of those arcs that are consistently amazing with each chapter until the end. The chaos isn't over just yet. Anime only fans are in for a treat next week too. 🔥
i remember struggling to get into season 1 because it didn't really hook me until like maybe midway through. . . but this arc proves that you can start the rollercoaster with that slow, methodical climb and have a fantastic descent down
"the future?" - bruh, more like an "What If?" scenario, looking at mappa's future :
This episode had people going from absolute hype to an utter state of shock and pity for Yuji. In the next fight (which is my personal favourite from all fights ) Yuji finna be locked in.
This episode was amazing I was geeking the whole time, they still doing this despite their working conditions is insane.
This is what happens when the greatest animators in the industry is led by the best episode director in the industry under a horrible schedule. Absolute chaos.
19:15 missing the point. It doesn't matter if they necer planned for Sukuna getting 10 fingers at once. Gojo is responsible for Itadori and therefore Sukuna. This credence lends to what happens later on immediately following the conclusion of Shibuya, but I won't go into spoilers.
This ep was insanely good. Whats even crazier, this is 30% of what the animators wanted to accomplish... its also unfinished ☺☺
It really is a shame, more and more unfinished/polished elements pop up the longer it goes. It looks incredible, but just imagine what it could’ve been.
@@ningenslayer6306 Dont lose hope, they often reanimate scenes/eps for the blue ray release. If they have the money, they can still polish the episodes.
The shikigami is not ded because it wasnt tamed. Sukuna wasn’t part of the ritual so he interfered with it and the ritual became void. Megumi can summon it as many times as he wants until it is tamed

How is every episode of JJK feeling like a damn movie lol like holy shit the cinematography this episode was next level. I've already watched it several times so I could appreciate specific moments again lol also the music?! They used the most perfect OST for the fight, probably my fave of the season
They didn't say the music itself was bad. Just that it ruined the moment. Sometimes silence is better. I get why they think so but I also get what the music was trying to do there. I can't decide which is better.
Oh are you talking about the OP song at the end? I was specifically talking about the OST that was playing during the actual fight. Personally, I really enjoyed the theme song playing at the end, gave it a kind of 'ending credits of a film' vibe but I guess it's just personal taste tbh@@Merilirem

He's taking out some of the most powerful characters in the show with EASE without his full power. He is currently at 75%. Gojo on the other hand is winded after killing 1,000 transfigured humans. It's not looking good for the sorcerers right now.
@@mogray90hey u already said u ain’t fully caught up just wait man
This episode was absolutely F*CKED, in the best and worst sense possible. The animators cooked so hard they wiped Shibuya off the map 😱🔥💀My man Sukuna had to pull out the Malevolent Kitchen to remind everyone that hes the *King of **-Curses-** COOKING* 👨🏽🍳🔪
So to explain in the easiest way possible. Sukuna’s domain doesn’t have a barrier keeping people in or out. Because people have the option to escape (even if they don’t have the ability) it makes the guaranteed hit of his domain have a larger range.
If i recall correctly its not that sukuna's dkmain doesn't have a barrier, its that it has an open barrier...that is there is no restriction to anyone getting in or out of the barrier. This is fundamentally different from having no barrier at all because no bareier implies no barrier technique is in use, which is wrong as we know that malevolent shrine is indeed a barrier technique
really really appreciate you guys bring awareness to the animators and their situation even if there's not so much that we can do...

Everything was so crazy I forgot that mf was still around. I'm curious about the match up, who does Mahito fight?
I havent seen this channel since your HxH reations and DAMN yall had an anime glowup. Much love from Morocco.
Imagine if the studio gave the animators an extra week as they requested. I mean it was good but it could have been even better!
Honestly, we should normalise letting animation studios take their time for the same result.
Your comment is well intended, but keep in mind the damage animators had to endure to make this in the time frame they have. Extra time should not mean better quality, it should just mean they can output the same quality without being harmed in the process
You're projecting lmao, they specifically requested an extra week for both reasons, due to the strenuous schedule and this episode not even being completed, the latter half of this episode is obviously unfinished, so as OP said, imagine the end result if they were granted their request.@@joshuad3507
this episode was made months before the others, this episode wasn't affected at all by the production issues.
The greedy ass animation committee denied their request for extra time cus it would lead to profit losses. If they had given the animators reasonable schedules way ahead this wouldn't have happened to begin with.
@@coal159 Lol no, that was 16. This episode was worked on until the very end and wasn't finished at.
The fact that Sukuna made Yuji remember all the things he did while he was in his body is PURE EVIL
He is literally breaking Yuji's mind
That had some of the best animated cuts I’ve seen in this season but it also had so many cuts that you could see that the animators DID NOT have the time or ability to polish up on like for example Sukuna's flame arrow scene
I know people say “we don’t want Sukuna to make an appearance” but I really enjoy seeing him display why he has the reputation he has. He’s also very knowledgeable about cursed energy and curses so I always learn something while he’s on screen.
sukuna appearing ever is basically the definition of "bad for the characters, great for the viewers"
he could be the most knowdlgeable person in curse energy in the entire series except for maybe 1 character

With this treasure...
Dude, this episode was breathtaking to me, Sukuna was so hype that he hold the opening until he released control
Imo the reason the played the op over itadoris scream was because from what I’ve heard the op was written from the villains perspective. So metaphorically the villains were gloating over their victory thus making his screams being drowned out that much more impactful and sad.
The names should be Mahoraga and Malevolent Shrine. Weird change from the manga.
The voice actors actually say "Makora" in this episode if you listen closely. Malevolent Kitchen is more of a direct translation, as Sukuna's name for his domain expansion also is a play on where you prepare food (and his domain expansion, as you can see, features many mouths as he is very fond of eating/consuming).
But yes, Mahoraga and Malevolent Shrine are supposedly the official translations.
Sukuna's "You wanna go?" has the same energy as Madara's "You wanna dance?".
That Itadori's Grandpa speech vs. The ending really hits hard. "Help Others" vs. "Everyone killed by your body."
animator said this ep just 30% completed, just look at shrine temple white as mountain caucasus, and shadow man shooting fire arrow, such a shame
Navi was spitting so hard about things to come, you would've thought she read the manga. Lmao

I loved the music starting there (over his scream). I thought it added to that moment, it didn’t detract from it.
This episode really puts it in perspective how CRAZY it is that Megumi was about to pull out Mahoraga on TODO
Goatkuna just violated gojo’s mortal enemy lol
The opening song made sense to play at the end because of the lyrics.
I think a remix would’ve been better cuz the rhythm of the op doesn’t match it. Probably the composer of the show probably made an ost for this scene but one of the directors chose the op probably last minute.
@@8ooty0 I imagine it's the other way around based on the lyrics. They wrote it for this scene and then liked it so much they used it for the intro!
Thanks for your reaction) But don’t forget that it’s Halloween, and people from all over the city flock to Shibuya this evening, so there are much more people there than live there. Just watch the video from Halloween in Shibuya, where you can see simply huge crowds. That's why Geto and his gang set the date for Gojo's sealing to October 31st - to increase the number of victims.
cool reaction i like the discussion, although i think the intro song in the end was spot on because it highlights the concept of the “shibuya incident” i think people hear the song and think its a happy and hype but in reality if you look up lyrics and watch the music video of the song, it would probably make more sense to why they chose to play it at the end with yuji. in my opinion.
the disjoint of the OP playing there was so perfect though
The animators were at 30% of their power when they did this episode. Imagine what it'd be like when they've had a chance to sleep and gather their energy for the Spirit Ball?
I can't stop laughing when you guys called out the "Malevolent Kitchen" 😂😂
8:09 fan fact
One of strongest animator who draw "swimming" Makora, couldn't find a interior of this building in Shibuya
So he just draw a Mappa studio's office here😭🤣
Revenge for forcing them to draw faster with most awful deadlines
Looking back at the season. Its crazy to imagine that all the events of Shibuya happened in the span in one night
there was a point in time i used to think Sukuna and Itadori would be like a naruto and kurama situation
there is no redemption for this dude hes just pure evil 😭
Exactly. Not 2 mention later on stuff.
NOW and not when Sakuna literally ripped Yuji's heart out so he couldn't switch over?
Man, that opening song hits hard at the end in this episode. 😢
Animators need good vacation now. They deserve it, this arc was amazing.
Remember all of them saying things like don't worry Sukuna can still come out lmaoooo instant regret
The music behind the crying was perfect. Y’all tripping. It makes it more menacing
A few things I want to clear up. 19:55 Mahoraga is not dead. Had Sukuna killed Mahoraga after he was tamed, then Mahoraga would be gone for good. HOWEVER, it was stated in season one that when a shikigami dies, its abilities get transferred to another shikigami within the Ten Shadows technique.
Also, undercutting Yuji's pain by playing the opening was intentional. The opening theme for this arc was written specifically for the villains. Having such an upbeat song playing whilst Yuji is going through emotional turmoil symbolizes Sukuna's thoughts after Yuji took back control. "Hey brat, I can see your upset cause people died but I don't care. I used YOUR body to murder thousands and had a damn good time doing it so sit there and cry about it" That's probably what he's thinking.
Finally, about Sukuna's Domain: Malevolent Shrine (not malevolent kitchen lol) has a binding vow. It has an open barrier. Not having a barrier means people could THEORETICALLY escape (the chances of anyone who isn't faster than Toji...even that's a stretch is unlikely). In exchange for that disadvantage, Malevolent Shrine's effective range is increased to 200 meters.
My mind could not comprehend this episode I need to rewatch this like 10 more times and 10 extra more times in dub I can't 😭
I heard the Harvey Dent at 14:27. I had the same thought in my head too.
Who let Viz do these translations first the manga now the anime. The changed Malevolent Shrine to Malevolent Kitchen and Mahoraga to Makora.
Tbf Makora is what the voice actors say
Shikigami only die for good once they are tamed by the Ten Shadows user. If they are not tamed, then they can be brought out at any time to attempt to exorcise them. All Sukuna did was void the ritual in this instance.
Makora would wipe the floor with the disaster curses
Exactly 😊

From here on the fights in jjk gets better and better. I mean they're so damn good i actually forgot how good this fight was because it usually doesn't end up in the 'best fight' talks. Infact my favourite fight and one of the or if not the best fight from the series is coming up soon.
Also remember, NOT mappa but the animators COOKED
The fights are “on a scale hitherto undreamt of”-Dr Stephen Strange
I'm pretty sure that last image of the black void in the middle of the city was inspired by the Boötes Void. If you aren't aware it's the largest section in the universe that's completely void of anything (or at least light).
Malevolent kitchen 😂😂😂 funniest translation ever.
2nd funniest was tht weird way they drew itadori at the end. One punch man/mob pyscho scene.
Incredible visuals. Its just fighting a mindless monster at end of the day but still cool. Next arc very sick
Also the city with giant crator in the middle is found in quite a few anime haha always cool to see
To answer Chris's Question at roughly 2 mins, JJK:0 came out March last year, then Chainsaw man came out October last year, so assuming end of production periods are a similar length apart from release dates, they only had 7 months to work on that, and then a similar period for JJK S2, as that started July this year.
I didn't even notice this but we got an answer to a question from season 1 in this ep. Remember how Mahito was speculating about Sukuna not being able to heal others with his reversed cursed technique? I'm pretty sure we saw Sukuna use it on Megumi when the fight hadn't started.
Sukuna is able to heal other with reversal, its just he cant heal idle transfiguration because its not actually damaged, Mahito changes the shape of the soul but he’s not harming it, if you try to heal a body part effected by idle transfiguration it will simply regrow disfigured as mahito left it.
@@Blackillusion43 Yeah I get that part but Mahito specifically questioned if Sukuna is unable to heal others from what I can remember.
@@hrodebrt you need to rewatch that part or check the manga i guess, because all it saying is sukuna cant use reverse cursed technique to heal the soul.
For the amount of love the animators BRING INTO this world and how hard they're worked...its disgusting to see the lack of appreciation and straight hate towards them...and im not just saying JJK. This series has been incredible and only gotten better as time goes on. Thank you ANIMIMATORS! The company MAPPA might be sketchy, but the artists deserve all the love
Maybe the animation being s-it has something to do with it, firend? Ya know, this episode literally having the most mistakes yet?
Random renaming, ranodm stuffcut, random f-cking shit added? Someone has to be blamed. No, not the animators as in 'workforce' but surely

This fight is... I have no words, it's ART, WE'RE WATCHING ART.
ngl f sukuna was a cannibal and him saying the food he ate during the fight was nasty is kinda wild 😂😂
The thing about the OP insert towards the end is the lyrics for the song reference Yuji's breakdown (and it unfortunately only work if you know Japanese, or look up the lyrics).
The Future of anime is not being carried by its animation.
We saw multiple times in S1 that Megumi was about to unleash something powerful and throw his life away. But it's so funny that when it FINALLY gets used, it's against Haruta of all people. Mahoraga. Sukuna shows up and has fun for a bit but unlike with Jogo, he realizes that having fun won't be enough for this thing. If it adapts to all of his moves, there won't be a path to victory. So he has to take it out in one blow. Then he demolishes most of the city, annihilates SO MANY PEOPLE(including Haruta who's luck had ran out) and then makes Yuji see and experience it all so he can laugh at his misery. Once again, Sukuna is not Yuji's friend. He is not on his side at all. Yuji's suffering and despair brings Sukuna entertainment. Just like how he laughed with Mahito when Junpei was killed in front of Yuji. He is diabolical. And now, Nanami is back. Nearly burnt to a crisp but still walking. Where does his path lead to, I wonder?
Money isn't the problem in the studio problem is burnout and proper freedom to work
