Can I ask you guys to not be dicks to Xavier over his opinion on the film? What kind of a dipshit do you have to be to think I'm gonna let that slide if I see it?
I get crapping on you, but Xavier actually was respectful about his view, even if I disagree with it.

Besides how bad he looks, besides he gets killed in his first fight by a literal nobody, a friend of mine made me realice he almost has no lines...the prince of the shokan, one of the most iconic characters in gaming history, reduced to a brute who is there just to show how "cool" Warner's original character is.
Roaring brute Goro is something this franchise needs to get over. Goro is the champion of a martial arts tournament, not the Rancor from Star Wars
Goro is smart, dignified and honorable. Yes he's a beast in a fight, but he's not mindless or else Great Kung Lao would have beaten him since Great Kung Lao was a Shaolin Monk who would have seen how predictable and stupid his opponent would have been. Goro HAD to be smart, had to be skilled, had to be everything to be the 9 time Mortal Kombat Champion.
@@legionbeast Right? I'm not even saying he has to be smart, just not a braindead monster. Arrogance should be his defining feature above all else
He can roar to intimidate or for his own reasons (personal Kiaia? Lols?) without having to be a bootleg Hulk outside of battle.
The funny thing is I felt the 95 version did him pretty good. He was built up as a monster and we saw he actually had a brain and personality. Mediocrity is the "new normal."
1) a first-time director whose only previous experience had been directing commercials (I guess he was cheap)
2) asinine poorly developed script
3) uninspired casting choices (except for Scorpion)
4) they axe the character of Johnny Cage, apparently due to "woke" sensibilities and yet the most entertaining character is the white Australian male Kano
5) they add wholly unnecessary "woke" elements like Kung Lao holding back Sonya Blade
6) they created a bland soulless "Cole" character to walk you through the cinematic experience more disliked than Shujinko
7) bland male characters except for Kano and Scorpion
8) insufficient or nonexistent character development
9) bland choices of locations and insufficient number of locations
10) failure to sufficiently expand upon the lore as well as lore "modifications" that were downright silly (dragon tattoos & arcana)
Excuse me but kung lao was perfect casting
@@sabbathjackal I agree with Kung Lao casting being good and Liu Kang I liked the guy playing him from Power Rangers and when I heard it was him doing it I was happy, BUT It didn't show well in the movie. But Sonya Blade was bloody horrific and I rather she was skipped altogether compared to what we got. Outside that I actually agree with all 10 points in @boricuafeliz list.

5:52, if this was a movie for longtime fans, they would have NEVER had an OC as the lead, nor would they have inverted roles for established characters, so that's a very fair point.
Yes.
Yes, precisely yes.
I went into this movie with extremely low expectations and was STILL disappointed! I'd rather watch Annihilation, and I'm not even kidding!
MK95 = Mortal Kombat
MK97 = Annihilation
MK2021 = Abomination !

@Azure Dragon so true
At least Annihilation FELT like Mortal Kombat with its fighting and cheesey costumes, unlike this movie which is basically an Avengers origins story with a Mortal Kombat texture pack slapped on it
Jax was fun, the cyber ninjas were highlights, and stupid as it was, it at least had color and charm. This one is gonna be remembered pretty much only for Kano.
Kano was a better point-of-view character in this movie, because he was the one asking all the questions and trying to figure out what the f was going on. Cole was just like "oh a four-armed man is trying to kill my family, I guess it's time for another fight"
"This is a movie made for the people that love guest fighters" is so poignant a line to describe the mentality of those that were going 'The movie is great!'
Those are the worst kind of people. I bet they're easily influenced. Easier to manipulate.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME i love guest fighters, but i dont see any reason to watch this movie, it looks like crap, and has pretty mediocre fatalities that make MK9s look cool

funny thing is, Alice is a lot more fun to follow in the 1st RE movie than Cole Young would ever hope to be.
And to think both the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie and a majority of the live action Resident Evil films were from the same director
@@JasonGravewalker it's because Anderson met Milla Jovovich.
"But I still liked it" attitude is the reason why producers and writers felt so emboldened to put Cole Young and Arcana in the movie in the first place. What incentive do they have to do better when there's such a large audience whos ready willing and able to throw their money at them purely because its Mortal Kombat.
You say that like I had a choice? I'm still very aware of its flaws and actively acknowledged them, but I can't control the fact that I still found the movie entertaining as just a dumb action film. I even said I want them to try harder next time because this wasn't as good as ot could be. Like, maybe 20% of what I said is what people seem to be latching onto here.
You "having a choice or not" is not the issue, @@GodzillaMendoza. The issue is that saying "I want them to try harder next time" is not a real way to put pressure on producers/writters to actually do so if the people saying that are still going to give them their money when those products (games/movies/whatever) are released, and even worse if they continue stating that they still like them, regardless if more effort was put into those products or not.
And so, I ask this question: what real motivations will producers/writters have to do better if there's no actual pressure on them to do so?
@@kndyDX How do you want me to put pressure on them? Start a social media campaign to get them fired if the next movie isn't up to standard? I kind of figured just criticizing it would be enough but apparently I wasn't negative enough? That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard, you're acting like it's my responsibility to force them to do their job better somehow by being more angry. You guys take this shit WAY too seriously.
I'm not asking YOU to do something nor take responsability @@GodzillaMendoza . I see I didn't explain myself well enough, and I apologize for that.
This is not an issue of one person (so don't take it as someone calling you out), it's an issue of the vast majority of the fanbase, who is big enough to (in many cases doing so unawarely) give the people in charge of making adaptations the certainty that "Hey, we don't have to really try, enough people are gonna give us money and like what we'll do regardless."
So, I want to try to express my point again, and hopefully better:
It's one thing that some people like this kind of things, since they're free to do so and it can't be helped, but when a big enough chunk of the fanbase does so and it contributes to give producers/writters the idea that they can make good money with low effort products, it doesn't bode well for the future.
Hope I could make myself clearer.

The one thing that wasn't a let down regarding this film: 4th Snake's take on it.
Been looking forward to this!! Thanks man!
7:07 That's... Honestly one of the saddest thing I've ever heard. I'm not a Mortal Kombat fan, but hearing thoughts on the franchise and story is interesting. But to me, what I hear is:
"Yeah, the series is in the gutter with no one in charge of the IP actually caring about their work, but I'm so used to it I'll just eat it up anyway"
It's the most defeatist thing I've ever heard, and that's just sad.
John Tobias needs to write the next game/film. Also it is available to rent on Sky Store
Yknow what be funny! If you have a decade old protagonist of a franchise and almost don’t use him and instead use some made up boring character no one cares about! :D
Would be really insane if WB would do that wouldn’t it? Hahaha right? Hahah.. guys?..
I really hate how they give Johnny's Place to Kano in the movie, anyone with a brain cell could see a mile away that Kano was gonna betray the group, Sonya had him arrested and yet she didn't suspect what the Australian mercenary could do.
"It was a bad movie but I don't care because it was a spectacle."
That mindset is why so many movies, especially franchise and video game movies, are total crap. People's expectations are so low that they will throw money at a movie just because it didn't suck *too* bad. As long as people like GM excuse stuff like this because it was fun enough and had enough fan service, studios will interpret it as a success and continue this slide downward.
Translation of GM "I got distracted by all the pretty and cool shit happening on screen". Shit like this is why we keep having trash like Fast and Furious.
I wonder how many people who have this opinion of the movie actually paid money to go see it instead of having a HBO Max subscription.
people are gonna enjoy movies they like 👌
Yes they're called action movies. Transformers, the MCU, Arnold Schwarzenegger..
From what I've heard when you talk about Mortal Kombat, it seems like this series has an immense amount of untapped potential to create an extremely complex and interwoven storyline that's just hiding underneath the surface of the modern canon.
From how you talk about mileena and other characters, to the worldbuilding, it really does feel like this could be one of those names that could go down in gaming and literature history as one of the greats.
But this is just a take from someone who isn't THAT familiar with this series, so please take it with a grain of salt.
Long time fan of the series here and I'll tell you that everything you said is on point. It frustrates me that the Mortal Kombat series is mostly well regarded for it's violence and gore which is fair enough as that's a big part of what makes MK stand out from other fighting game franchises but I seriously feel that not many people dive into the series lore as I think MK has some of the most unique and interesting lore in any fighting games which unfortunately has been ruined by the constant retcons especially since it was rebooted. I honestly don't see why it's so hard for most of today's writers (not just Netherrealm Studios) to write a good story with all the characters and previously established lore. I feel like they really had the chance to further flesh out the characters in the rebooted timeline especially the 3d era characters since they weren't utilized all that well but instead they sideline them for a boring and uninteresting next generation type story with a new protagonist who I honestly had hard time taking seriously as the new earth realm hero like seriously Shinnok a fallen elder god who is more than centuries old gets his ass handed to some young, hip, military chick who posts selfies online with her dead enemies like it's totally not nsfw. Also take the original 1995 MK movie for example it was far from perfect but it overall did a solid job telling a compelling story with the characters and lore they had at the time hell they would even later use some of the Movie's lore in their games like Kano being Australian and the characters meeting each other on the ship while on their way to the tournament....
Oh and the fact that this new movie decided to introduce a new character that was never in the games and make him the hero just felt like a slap to the face but hey most of this is just my own biased opinion so don't have to take my word but just felt like I had to say it.
@@JasonGravewalker I can sorta understand what they did for the new characters in MKX, but it still feels a little contrived to make Cassie able to beat Shinnok. Mostly because it almost felt like NRS tried to write themselves out of a corner
@@JasonGravewalker Instead of the cinematic story approach they should just do what every other fighting game does and give every character their own set of multiple cutscenes within the towers mode to better flesh them out. From what I play most of the tower endings are non canon. Why not just make them... canon.
You basically explained everything wrong with this movie in a nutshell, and you did it in 9 minutes.
This puts a smile on my face😁

I didn't like the movie either, Mortal Kombat isn't primarily about gore and hidden plot points - Midway games still did it better. And I prefer the old movies over what we got any day.

The overall problem with Netherrealm’s treatment of Mortal Kombat is they made the violence the only thing that separates it from other popular 3D fighting game franchises. Street Fighter has better designed and more iconic characters, Tekken and Dead or Alive have better fighting animation and choreography, and Soul Caliber tells a better story. Take away the violence of Mortal Kombat, and what do you have left?
Kabal is my favorite mostly because he said "he's gonna get his soul sucked"
4:05 The sad thing is that some people think that MK is all about spectacle.
"We've accomplished less than Jin did in that god-awful Tekken movie!"
He's out of line, but he's right.
Literally "Why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?"
"The deaths feel pointless"
So...basically MK in a nutshell?
Every time someone died in the story it was for a purpose, at least in the Midway timeline. Johnny Cage was to showcase that not only was the invasion a grave threat, but that none of the heroes were safe. Literally anyone could die even on our side. When Liu Kang died in Deadly Alliance it shook the series from then on. Not only was there no set MC, but Earth was shown to have lost one of its greatest protectors.
What purpose do these serve, other than for people to go "Oh neat, he just killed that guy!"?

First...No. Asking for a plot that doesn't seem like it was written by a four-year-old isn't nor should be considered asking for much. Secondly of course, very little of the actual post was typed correctly, including Shakespeare's name, which makes bringing him up immensely hilarious for several reasons. -I would have treated it like characters with interesting characterisations that at least could have developed in interesting plot lines, kind of like what the CASTLEVANIA ANIMATED SHOW DID, it was made with interesting take on a clear chapter in the series with very strong characterisation.
-I would have Johnny Cage being the main character who is the MMA fighter who Cole Young could be the Krillin of the film, where he is easily defeated but has a lot of enthusiasm which would generally provide some stellar comedy with great banter, plus strong chemistry that the audience will engage with him, to be fair, him, Sonya and Cassie I have in the film.
-Cut out all the other characters except for Raiden, Liu Kang, Sonya, Jax, Sub-Zero, Hydro, Kano, Kabal, Shang Tsung and Goro. Only adding Kitana, Reptile, Cassie (Though she would be seventeen to be fair with her attitude from MKX though without the will to rebel, mostly sparky with good intent) and Baraka in the film. Kabal would be fighting fir Earthrealm, with his style of fighting be fast flurry of punches and kicks who would leave the Black Dragon Clan so he could redeem himself as a genuinely decent person who regains his honour. Kind of like what MK9 was going for but more developed.
-The plot armour and dragon marks I would never do, just would not. Instead have a strong emphasis on martial arts, quick flurry attacks while combing the powers, and also have creative camera movement with the action while having every scene between each fight being important to the story, like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World did with their fight choreography.
-Make Raiden someone who likes to put his champions to the tests with very fun dialogue played by a charismatic actor (I would pick Jackie Chan personally as he would be a legit great pick to play the thunder god), he would actually have a pretty funny banter friendship with Cassie as he loves her spirit and will to kick the outworld's threats asses though Liu Kang would be the definite winner, defeated both Goro and Shang Tsung. (Which yes, Shang Tsung would fight and would actually kill some fighters, mostly no named fighters whose existences is to be beaten by Earthrealm or Outworld, which I think should be fun because Mortal Kombat should be like video games are at core: fun.)
-I keep the Scorpion and Sub Zero fights but Hydro and Johnny would be involved with Scorpion teaming with Johnny. (Yes, I have seen the Wasted Plotential, and as usual, it's great.) Plus make the chemistry between these heroes strong so we the audience, should care for them, be interested in them and hope they win the fights for Earthrealm. Though Outworld side should have some fun scenes, mostly ones with Reptile, Kano, Hydro, Sub-Zero, Baraka and Goro. Have Goro be the only one wanting to proudly fight for his realm of Outworld, while the others love to fight and do not care about anything other than the thrill of Mortal Kombat, Baraka would want to see how his opponents have strong resistance with his blade attacks, Kano looking to beat them down mercilessly, painfully and slowly, have Hydro be one to make his opponents have tests against his water capabilities and Reptile wanting to see how much his opponents get tested against his camouflage abilities and acid attacks before brutally eating them. Make them wanting to have fun with the Earthrealm fighters to get the audience ecstatic which then delivers in face-pacing, high adrenaline building, brutal combat that would be beautifully choreographed by the same one who did the Kingsman films who did an excellent job on the films and the style of combat can greatly suit the martial art style of Mortal Kombat with that amazing action choreographer.
That is just the tip on how I would do the film to be honest. I hope you enjoy it.
How can one man making a comment on a TH-cam video make a better story than a team of professional writers. btw good idea
Awesome ideas.
MK 2021 is laughably bad, it feels like a damn Disney Channel movie instead of a proper blockbuster spectacle
I could not find the right words on how I felt about the markings until I saw your vid so thank you and nice review.
I actually agree with the whole birthmarks thing. I wish they would have gain their markings through the brink of death by kombat.
Goro is the reigning champion of the back yard shake Shack 🤣
I think they should have just made it a show, instead of a movie franchise.
I'm 33 years old and I've been a fan of Mortal Kombat ever since I started playing it back on the Sega Genesis, believe me I wanted more than anything to like this movie, but I have to be honest it was just bad. I saw some interview with the director before the movie released and he said that Goro would play a significant role because somebody asked him a question and mentioned the fact that Goro has kind of turned into a big scary monster and they steered away from his whole Prince backstory and everything, the director said that Goro would play a significant role in the movie and that his story was important or something along those lines. Sure enough he was just a big dumb scary monster.
We need to do what fans did during Snyder's case. Force WB to give us a faithful MK film do-over and possibly a solid cinematic universe off of it.
It's called Mortal Kombat without A GOD DAMN TOURNAMENT imagine that people ☠️
This movie released on my birthday....... so did MK11....... I THINK IM A CURSE
If the next game/movie does, and its bad, we'll need to have a talk about what to do with you, I'm afraid.
I agree with everything you said, 4th Snake. This movie seemed geared more to fans who complained that the 95 movie was bad because of the lack of blood or gore, despite the fact that the 95 movie did have few fatalities, but since I guess they weren't spitting blood nd guts everywhere it doesn't count. *sighs* Also, Liu Kang's fireball towards Shang Tsung at the end of the 95 movie, a perfect way to show him accepting his place as the Chosen One and accepting his brother's death, was ten times better than all the fireballs, teleporting, and throwing hat tricks the 2021 movie dished. I'm sorry, but that is just how I feel.
Bad things about this movie:
1. Cole Young should not exist;
2. this version of Raiden sucks;
3. no Johnny Cage;
4. Kung Lao's death scene was moronic;
5. Cole Young should not exist;
6. Kabal got treated like a crap... again;
7. 70% of the characters are just glorified cameos;
8. Cole Young should not exist;
9. whole "birthmark" thing is crap;
10. why is there no Mortal Kombat tournament?;
11. locations are bland as fuck;
12. Cole Young should not exist.
Good things about this movie:
1. Sub Zero and Scorpion fights were good;
2. Kano is entertaining;
3. Sonya is hot.
And one more thing... Cole Young should not exist.
you forgot to add one more reason why this movie was bad
"Cole Young should not exist!!!"
Excuse me, how was Sonya hot?
My two favourite youtubers in one video sweet
"Literal plot armor." Just reminded me how bad this movie really is.
Liu Kang haven't beat Goro outside of the MK games.
Reiko looks like Will Ferrell, in this.
What do you think Shao Kahn will look like? John C. Reilly?
@@Gemidori Brilliant!
And yeah, wouldn't put it past them.
When I criticized the movie for its plot being an excuse, but someone told me that godzilla vs kong's was an excuse, yet I enjoyed it. That's because GvK's is an excuse, yes, but at least it made me care for the characters and the fights were quite memorable, unlike mk
Also there aren't plot holes and inconsistensies with hat happened. Godzilla breaths atomic fire. Okay. But imagine if they gave him lightning hands out of nowhere.
GvK is made with love and care. MK2021 is made by comitee
@@glock16 A comitee of dingbats.
I've been seeing for years now that MK needs to be a series, not a goddamned movie.
All I remember is Reiko yelling. Did he even have any actual voicelines?
I think he said "Gotcha" at one point.
I actually really liked the final fight. The 95 theme playing as scorpion comes to save the day, the little character moments, the fight between the three of them. It almost made me forget how much I didn’t like what came before it.
It's so funny that I saw an interview where the writer said "they wanted to give people a Shujinko like character".
Aw man is so sad that we don't have ANY CHARACTER WHO IS LIKE SHUJINKO IN THE MORTAL KOMBAT FRANCHISE. WE JUST HAVE NO MATERIAL TO WORK WITH SO WE JUST GOTTA MAKE A NEW ONE!
Here's a good idea.
Use the actual Shujinko.
Xavier's section wasn't very valuable to be honest. No, this isn't me talking shit for him having "the wrong opinion" or anything. It's just a matter of it being purely a subjective viewpoint with nothing really of substance to say. Like "yeah all of the criticisms are valid, this movie has massive flaws but I still like it because I had fun," just really doesn't add much to any discourse. Like totally, it's good for him that he enjoyed it. It's okay to like movies that aren't very good, everyone has at least one movie like that. But like, no offense but it's just not a very valuable counterpoint or anything.
...though describing Nitara as a "3D era character no one remembers the name of" bugged me a little, heheh.
Seeing some of the responses in here, especially regarding the whole "it's a fighting game movie what did you expect" makes me curious what Snake's stance on when it comes to people who think fighting games can't or shouldn't have stories
He has expressed his hatred for these statements before and as a kaiju fan who appreciates lore and good writing I understand his frustration.
The fact that they didn't have Siro in this movie was the reason I had a bad time.
The greatest aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mortal kombat character
Siro has to be in MK12 together with the OG Kung Lao plus that other bug lady, she can be Dvorah's grandma
@@redacted2275 As well as the weird Sub-Zero that feels immense pain any time he uses his ice abilities, he can be the ancestor of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, and the true origin of the title Sub-Zero... they're technically not 3D-era characters so there's a better chance than them, at least.
(crumples paper) THAT'S IT!!!!!!!
I'm not surprised, hence why I didn't waste my money on it as I'd have to get the subscription for HBO Max and then pay for the movie, which is not worth it for a film that doesn't respect the source material with how much they changed it, especially with ugh Cole of all people getting his ego stroked all film.
You didn't have to pay extra to see the film. The film is included with your subscription to HBO MAX. It's not like Disney Plus.
I watched it for free on lookmovie
My girlfriend and I watched this a few months ago and we both agreed that the movie made no sense and was generally shite. We both enjoyed every moment Kano was on screen because he's legit the best character in the movie.
I'm glad someone else made the connections between the 2021 movie and Annihilation.
When are you going to do the critique video on Scropion's Revenge.
Honestly, I saw it yesterday with brother and my dad, we all agreed it was wasted potential as a new but knowledgeable fan (me), someone who was around to enjoy the arcade and 3D era but life got in the way (my dad), and then someone who knew more about street fighter than mk (my brother). Each of us did agree that while the fights looked cool and some characters like Kano and Kabal having some semblance of personality, everything else was more half baked and didn’t have much time to be elaborated on, but we are curious to see how the story continues and my old man has HBO Max so it should be fine for the three of us to check out what’s next
Ok, now that I see what Shang Tsung was plotting, I can't help but think of Raiden's words in the 1995 film:
"That is expressly forbidden before the tournament, as your Emperor well knows."
I can understand how some people have come to terms with what MK has become, and can enjoy it as it is,
but the fact that is HAS been better in the past leaves me a bit irritated. The more complacent viewers are,
the easier they are to please with just seeing a silver screen version of a fond memory, the longer we're all
stuck with just mediocre spectacle and popcorn entertainment.
I do like the MK series, and want it to succeed, but I'm just not capable of turning my brain off
and just enjoying whatever is presented.
The moment I knew about Cole Young that's when I was like "ok this movie is in danger of sucking."
Now I know this movie is bad when it comes to it being a Mortal Kombat movie. Seriously I feel like I could have made the movie better. Also Goro doesn't even feel like Goro seriously you can easily just retcon Goro and say that the Shokan Cole Young fought was not Goro and nobody would care.
Agreed. if the people who made this were called directors and writers, then almost anyone could be called directors and writers, and I think everyone else could have been better that the people who made this. cause seriously, I've heard 8 year old kids talking to each other in arcades telling stories that are better than this movie and I don't even think they know the game or the characters better than I do.
@@setsunakoikogeki182 not to mention the actual directors gave advice about respecting the source material but then they go and throw it into an active trash compactor. And throw that trash compactor into a black hole.
@@chadpeterson5698 I really thought James Wan was supposed to be the director I was even very happy hearing it, boasting it to my twin brother because were both big fans, that the movie already seems great then at almost few months before it releases I don't even recognize any names written in to it.
I lost hope when I heard about him, so much that I completely forgot he was still gonna be in the film. Then my hopes came back up.
And then they were lost again when I read the summary and remembered him.
By the elder gods, this movie was liquid ass.
Here's my pitch for the MK movie:
First things first, no Collen Young or new exclusive character protagonist of the story. Liu Kang is the main hero. The opening could introduce him as young shaolin being trained by bo' rai cho, who would tell him and Kung Lao about the Mortal Kombat, and how one of them might be choosen to participate in the future. After the title, the movie jumps some years later, showing Liu Kang and Kung Lao completing their training. This would serve to establish both their distinct fighting styles as well their personalitites: Kung Lao is pridefull and impulsive while Liu Kang is more pacifist and soft spoken. After finishing their final test, they would be summoned by Raiden and the shaolin monks, who would choose Liu Kang to be their champion, which Kung Lao wouldn't take very well.
As he goes with Raiden to Shang Tsung island, the movie would introduce the other participants: From Earthrealm we have Sonya Blade (who wants to find Kano and avenge her partners that he killed), Jax (Sonya's oldest friend) Johnny Cage (a movie star and the movie's comic relief), Sub Zero (a Lin Kuei send by the grandmaster to infiltrate Shang Tsung tournament and kill him), Kano (who is secretly working for Shang Tsung to help Outworld win the tournament) and Kung Lao (who infiltrates the tournament so he can battle Goro and avenge his ancestor). From Outworld there would be Goro (the Mortal Kombat champion who is looking for some wothy opponent), Kitana (Shao Khan's daughter), Jade (Kitana's friend and bodyguard) Mileena (who would participate in the tournament to earn her father's love and respect), Ermac (a mysterious warrior who would seem to have a connection with Kitana) and other warriors (ex: Baraka, Reptile). There would also be Scorpion, who would want to fight against Sub Zero, who he killed days ago avenging the death of his clan.
During the tournament, Liu Kang would developt a rivalry with Shang Tsung due to the fact that the shaolin, unlike the other participants (except for Johnny Cage), refusing to kill his opponents, knowing that Shang Tsung wants this so he can absorb the loser's soul and become more powerfull. This is also why the villain choose participants such as Sonya, Scorpion and had no problem with Kung lao presence, because he can use their desire for revenge to manipulate them to give him more souls. This would give the MK movie a theme about pacifism vs violence, with Liu Kang trying to win the tournament while overcoming Shang Tsung attempts to make him kill his opponents.
In the end, Johnny Cage helps Jax convice Sonya to do the right thing and arrest Kano instead of killing him, Scorpion defeats Sub Zero but choose to spare him after discovering that he is actually Bi Han's brother Kuai Liang, making him feeling regret for killing his brother , Kitana and Jade are inspired by Liu Kang heroism to join him (with Kitana developing feeling for the shaolin monk) Kung Lao learns some humility after losing to Goro, who doesn't kill him because he sees potential in Kung Lao to become even more strong, and Liu Kang is able to defeat Goro and later Shang Tsung, when the sorcerer tries kill Goro as punishment for losing. Defeated, Shang Tsung returns to Outworld and Liu Kang becomes the MK champion and savior of Earthrealm.
The post credit scene would have Shang Tsung meeting with Shao Khan, who tells him to prepare his soldier for invasion, hitting in a sequel adapting MK 3 (Yeah, i wouldn't do MK 2 and the outworld tournament because the plot feels very similar to the first game and having Shao Khan being defeated twice would damage his image as this big threat)
I like your pitch. Though I wonder how are you going to fit all those fights in a roughly 2 hour long movie? Granted, I never seen films like Blood Sport or even the original MK movie so maybe I'm just being ignorant.
@@harlannguyen4048 Quite simple actually. There would be a montage of fights showing the development of the tournament. Only when the fights are important to the story that they would take longer, dedicating time for the characters arcs and developments. For exemple : Sub Zero vs Scorpion would explore their rivalry; Sonya vs Kano would deals with Sonya struggle between following the book or her wish for revenge.
Between those fights, there could scenes of the characters interacting and developing both their bonds or their rivalries (building up for a conflict in the end).
This pitch sounds like an improved version of the 95' film and if done correctly would be great.
@@redsunthewarrior Yeah. For the first film, much like the 95's I would take some inspirations from the first game, although, there would be some elements from MK 2 such as Kuai Liang would already be Sub Zero and participating in the tournament to avenge his brother , who was killed by Scopion some days ago before the Mortal Kombat (allowing the movie to explore the theme about overcoming rage and vengence), and the post credit scene would have Shao Khan already planning the invasion of Earthrealm from MK 3 instead of doing the Outworld tournament from MK 2 (which, if adapt in a sequel, could make the movie feel way too repetive).
Infinitely better. 👍
They could've made Cole TURN into Scorpion rather than tag team with him (and I don't mean in a "Hulk" way, I mean ceasing to exist to become scorpion's vessel), that would not only get fucking rid of cole but It would be a fresh explanation on how Scorpion has a new living body
After watching this movie I couldn't understand why they didn't do an MCU on the Mortal Kombat Franchise.
- Start with a Movie titled "Sonya Blade" - Jax supporting, Kano as the Antagonist.
- Then make the Scorpion-SubZero Prequel
- And give us a Liu Kang movie too, detailing his backstory and friendship with Kung Lao.
- THEN Make Mortal Kombat!
I am just so sick of Liu Kang being sidelined in everything. The dude is the hero of the series and the best fighter earthrealm has. Yet he's rarely done justice. Liu Kang should have a demanding presence everytime he's on screen. The enemies of earthrealm should fear his name. I mean this is the dude who has saved earthrealm multiply times almost single handedly. He's literally beaten the devil. Stop treating him like he's nothing... he's the chosen one for a reason!
This guy gets it
Too bad most people I see deemed him boring.
He's really not though. Plus 4th snake said it best "Liu Kang may be a bit boring, but so is superman. It's not that uncommon for the protagonist to be not as interesting as the supporting characters, but they still desve respect" or something like that.
@@Vergil666. I know, and I also don't find Liu Kang boring. I respect Liu Kang and his importance. It's just fans think he's overrated, this leads to writers playing favorites, and have Liu Kang get the shaft in some works.
I wouldn't say feared. The MK1 Comics written by Ed Boon and John Tobias had him clearly as an underdog type figure since he was basically the youngest fighter in the tournament.
Wait wait hold the fuck up did he say mk 9 could have been worse holy shit this movie really messed with him
