I've been on both sides of the street , addict & not an addict for the last 30 years , it's not that non addict's don't like or love addict's , it's that when you're high you don't care about others so it's the addict that neglects the other people.
Find happiness caring about others , not the dope , make love your drug , you can do it.

Totally true. An addict who loves others would not put people through the pain they cause. They say they want to be loved, but define it as being enabled in various ways. So sad, but so manipulative to use the L-word in this context.

I been going to a methadone clinic everyday for 2yrs so I'm not completely sober I've slipped up a few times and was still pissing fentanyl every month for a year and a half I'm 6 months clean except for smoking alot of weed.. Now, I don’t know if you hold some resentment towards your sister for giving you that first dose of heroin, but in her defence, she probably believed she was doing the ‘right thing’ or the ‘helpful’ thing at the time. Since you were already addicted to opiates, she probably didn’t realize that the heroin would take you to a whole other level of addiction. She thought she was helping you not be sick
And since she was an addict at the time as well, she probably wasn’t able to make the best decisions herself at the time

I typically make it about a third of the way thru these videos. The heavy alcoholics, maybe 30 seconds. They are just so plum burned out of all their energy, they don’t have enough left to push their lips out of the way. Some people find themselves more bored with this world than others. Some suffer more. Some seem quite content and happy. Sobriety doesn’t necessarily provide that happiness. I can just expose the boredom more fully sometimes. Just the way it is.

She asks how you can be happy sober and the answer isnt as complicated as they make it seem. You find happiness through healing, it creeps in. You cant tell me you have happiness while using...so all you have to GAIN IS HAPPINESS.
AND in sobriety, it presents in many forms. You find happiness getting to restart your life and rebuild relationships, in getting to know yourself and participating in the things you missed out on. You find happiness through finding purpose and setting and achieving goals (whatever they may be). You find happiness through gratitude. Just the fact knowing you're now in control and not chained to a substance brings happiness.
You find it by healing and doing the work you gotta do. By establishing and living by the values you want to live by and probably couldn't before.
Addicts love scaring themselves out of things and want everything all at once. You'll find happiness by living One day at a time, patience. When you're sober and doing the work for real...everything comes little by little and happiness is included in that. Just no using isnt recovery, theres more to it which includes healing and being the best version of yourself. When you're in recovery, you no longer let fear and shame dictate your life and that brings happiness. Everything builds. You make small goals and work towards them. If you keep at it you'll learn the value of a dollar and rebuild your finances, you'll make amends on your relationships...make new ones and rebuild old ones. You'll identify things important to you, new passions, career goals and slowly work towards them. You cant complicate it by making shit up that hasn't happened yet, trying to live all at once, making excuses or your own version of things that aren't real, and so on.
Happiness is a journey with levels and experiences just like life. It isnt a static thing. If you work on your relationship and understanding of it, it will come. Happiness is fluid, some moments are happier than others and its OK to not always be happy. It's how you learn to cope, reflect, build skills and deal. The happiest people I know have certain qualities...mostly they have lots of gratitude and they're living in line with their values every day.
Good luck to you and all those struggling. Recovery is possible, is do able, and you can have an amazing life. And...DESERVE IT!

    • @catzska

I know for a fact that many people in chronic pain who don’t have options other than being on pain medication it is because of Doctors who chose to give out pain medication to people who are NOT in chronic pain just had a short term issue yet Doctors chose to give prescriptions out like crazy so then the Government came down hard core, changed the laws, regulations and so forth which makes it much more challenging to get pain medication prescriptions and the Doctors, pharmacies and every day people put the blame on chronic pain suffers instead of holding Doctors accountable for giving out pain medication far too often for patients who should not have been prescribed opioids because their pain is not chronic. This is a really big issue and what accrual started people being so judgmental, also the media lying about what Doctors did and do by giving opioids to patients that are not in chronic pain. Sadly people who are NOT in chronic pain do not understand nor do most pain management Doctors anymore because Doctors who we should be able to trust screwed everybody by giving out opioids to patients who are addicts and not in chronic pain. Also some pharmacies and Doctors started stealing opioids for their own use. There are many different factors involved. I do agree people are judgmental when the hear anybody is prescribed opioids. Most Doctors are forcing patients that suffer with chronic pain off opioids because of all these factors. I had breast cancer and my Doctors screwed up my surgery which caused me to be in chronic severe pain and there is no way to correct the damage and chronic pain I suffer with. So I basically am forced to take opioids to manage the severe pain I am in 24/7. Yet my Doctors are making me take less and my pain level is so bad I feel like I want to die. I struggle to get through every second and the Doctors will cut off my prescriptions so I will be forced to suffer in insane pain. It pisses me off too. I never wanted to be stuck in severe chronic pain or have to take pain medication in the first place. My Doctors don’t care. They are doing what our government is telling them to do is get patients off opioids all together.

I am like Mark who has never done drugs and just interested in all of this information because human beings are so interesting. When I was growing up my parents parents became alcoholics over time and all I remember is us constantly taking care of them and bring them back to normal conditions after a long spree of drinking nonstop. Well, watching all of that I became disgusted and back then I knew I never want to be like them. Jodie, I just want to tell you that when you are raised with parents that gave conditional love then you have adopted that mindset to yourself. Instead, you just need humility. Finding that it is only human to error. Most of the time people use pride as a crutch in this area. So judging someone is a type of supply to people that have only grown up with conditional love upbringings. Please love yourself. Even if you did all of that to me, seeing how much you care about what you did especially, would allow me and humble person to WANT to forgive you. True humility is knowing that I can and will make mistakes in the future. I believe that this world we are brought into, is a place of learning. You have a good heart deep down and I believe you know that so please just be humbled by what you did and learn from your mistakes. "Good nature and good sense must ever join; To err is human; to forgive, divine." ~ Alexander Pope

I think they also use it just to not get sick because they were once prescribed it and then cut off, ect. They dont feel the "messed up" either but when they stop, as with anyone, they cant. Not all addicts are like this but the functioning are. I think it can evolve into stronger drugs when they cant find what they were originally on.

I tell you what, the US and Mexico missed a big opportunity to steer cartels back towards heroin when the cartel screwed up and kidnapped 4 Americans and killed 2 in a mistaken identity hit. The cartel thought they were Haitian cartel, because they’ve been operating there. Anyway, they cartel realized how bad they F’d up that they gave up their own men trying to appease the US. If the US was smart and didn’t stick to this same old BS ‘War On Drugs’ tactics theg could’ve thought outside the box and used the pressure the cartel was feeling to get them to smuggle heroin instead of fentanyl. If the the government laid off let them a bit, letting them operate and profit with heroin while targeting fentanyl smugglers, other cartel would get the message and make the switch. It is impossible to stop drug smuggling into the U.S., all you can do is try to incentivize the more responsible smugglers. If they could get them to smuggle heroin again instead of fentanyl that save 10’s of thousands of lives a year in the US alone.
