- It's odd that Helen Shapiro's biggest Australian hit didn't even make the charts in her home country the UK back in 1963. But "Not Responsible" reached #1 in Oz & charted for a massive 6 months Of course she had many others in England including this one's Aussie flip side "No Trespassing", which made it a double sided smash here. But Not Responsible is one of my earliest musical memories at the age of 3 or 4, which I distinctly recall more than any of Helen's other hits. Here she is on Australia's Bandstand in 1968 in a rare performance clip of that great song

It was released as the B side of "No trespassing". One of those B sides that was much better than the A side ....
HIT AFTER HIT,SUCH A TALENT
Absolutely love it. Beautiful Timbre (tone color/quality) voice as they say and the way she gets into it and delivers - years older than her 17, bringing through underlying longing emotion with a tinge of sadness. I wonder if I can sing it as she does while I walk into my office at work. It does bring life whereever it is, as a few sixties songs do. And in the case of this one maybe heritage from her Russian-Jewish grandparents and the council flats where she was raised. It hits a cord deep within and stays there, Ben Raleigh and Marc Barkan's words as she sends it to us on her heart strings.

What a superb voice
A really great talent. Hard to believe she was only 17 at the time of this recording with her chart career all but over. It wasn't just the American artists who were blown away by the Beatles Tsunami.

Rob O'Brien Her record company. They didn’t release her first proposed single from her Nashville sessions. It didn’t even make the cut for the Helen in Nashville album. The song was then recorded elsewhere and rush-released to universal acclaim by another (but American) mid-teenage singer. Lesley Gore and It’s My Party. Helen’s version is on the expanded album.
As best I recall, Not Responsible and No Trespassing was a double-sided hit, but only in Australia and Possibly New Zealand. And like so many British artists at the time, another example is Cliff Richard, Helen didn’t crack the US market.
