Genius solution. Just got Kenmore fridge from the client the same way you did. Will do the same. Not about to spend 400+ for a compressor and a firmware rewrite tool. Thank you. You ever in NYC, beer is on me.

How do you wire the compressor at the circuit board area in order to send 120 volts needed down to the compressor so that it comes on as the same time as the condenser fan?

Just had my son’s 7 year old LG compressor done this morning, fortunately on extended warranty. Tech was LG authorized and compressor was here 2 days after ordering plus motherboard and software updates. Took about 90 minutes, lots of equipment needed.

Great comment! Was the motherboard and updates part of the warranty with the compressor or did LG have you make up the difference?

@@dporrasxtremeLS3 All on Extended Warranty purchased at Home Depot Canada. I only had a month or two left before warranty expired so very fortunate. The best part other than not having to pay for it is that it has operated 100% perfectly ever since. Obviously a design or manufacturing fault. Good luck.

  • @eemc2cu745

Fantastic instructional video. Does it matter if the conventional compressor is smaller than the original linear compressor? Since the conventional compressor is not a variable speed and does not provide a pump down option? (this I am not completely sure of, please correct if I am wrong). I am going with the assumption that those features will not work with a conventional compressor. With that said, original spec on my LG is 5.01oz of R134. Since the pump down does not take affect in these dual evaporator system with a conventional compressor. Should the amount of R134 be doubled? Reasoning, since the original design called for 5.01oz in a dual evaporator system . With the pump down taking place and the 3-way valve closes one evaporator off. Should the system be filled with 10.02oz instead. My logic here is the system needs 5.01oz per evaporator after the 3-way valve pumps down and then closes. I look forward to hearing from you.

Bought my 1st LG REFRIDGERATOR 6.5 YEARS AGO, thought they were a good brand at the time. They have proven me wrong big time! First I had the local appliance repair co. come due the ICE MAKER not MAKING ICE. Fix $248 and change, no fix, compressor bad. Good news compressor is under a 10 yr. warranty but I have to pay labor(they got you again)$450 labor.Repair man here only 2 hrs and he is paid hourly and was LG'S MAN THEY SENT. At 25$/hr that's 50$ so where did the other $400 go? The fridge made about 1/2 bin full of ice then has went on the blink again. Called repair man and told him the news. He is supposed to come by when he is in this area again! What a deal is this. .........RAY W.

The really SAD story is this. Looking in several stores(Lowes. Home Depot. 3- Badcock stores (EASTPOINT, ST JOE, AND P CITY) and only 1 badcocks could get a fridge here as soon as 3 days but that was another LG for 3,000$ plus delivery and supposeably set-up (COST $139 DOLLARS). We were assured by the sales lady the men would set-up and move the older fridge out the kitchen door and 4 steps to where I was going to hook it to hot water tank inlet water line to make extra ice. Delivery men called thirty minutes ahead BUT SAID they did not move furnture or the old fridge, so then it was to call the sales lady and let her handle this problem. The men showed up and uncrated the new box, and came in they never said boo to us. They were very rude looks and did not talk, which was a good thing.because by then I was ready!
      NEXT CHAPTER:
NEW FRIDGE IN PLACE AND MAKING ICE AGAIN; After 7 1/2 days going to buy ice twice a day to ice 4 four coolers and ice tea.
The new fridge ice maker stops and ice ran out on the 17th Opened up ice maker door and found the shipping tape and all the other factory stuff still in place. That and the fact wife noticed the handles on doors were upside down and on the wrong door the day after delivery, she calls badcocks owner(IT'S THE ONE ON TYNDALL PARKWAY). Guess what, the lady must think her customers are all fools, she tells my wife that no the delivery men are not to move old stuff out for new stuff to take its place. WELL HOW BOUT THAT, I'M 81 AND WIFE IS 77 AND SO GO FIGURE, how does she think we gonna move appliances out for hers to go in. I DON'T THINK SO! ANYWAY , just giving yall a heads up so you can prepare, THANKS: RAY WALDING

There are 4 wires to the condenser motor. The pink and white/red wires are the only 2 that gives 12 Vdc. It is also noticeable that once power is applied to the control board, 12 volts is available, and the fan doesn't start until after the system has run through diagnostic checks and go to normal operating mode. 12 volts is always present as long as power is on. How do you control the cycling of the compressor when the set temperature is reached and what happens when the system is in defrost. Very anxious to this cause I'm trying to fix one of those same lg.

It's important to get the power supply wires to that fan. The other two are pwm and feedback wires. On my fridge (LSXC22486D) those wires were gray and black/white at the board, but red and black at the fan. When my fridge starts, the power supply to that fan does NOT come on until the board enters the compressor "on" mode and it cycles on and off as it should. I suspect that either some models control that fan differently or maybe some people have tapped into the wrong wires but it worked perfectly for me.

There are several problems with this install. First is when the board doesn't sense the comp running it will error out and shut off the cond fan, this will shut off the comp too. It will run for a little while shut down on error and stay off for a few mins and then restart. The second big problem is why in the world would you use a hardstart kit instead of proper comp relay? Hardstarts should not be used on any refrigerator made in the last 25 years as they will fry the compressor windings(the hardstart cap is 40 times the capacitance they were designed to take). Honestly though its still better than the LG linear comp. I don't know if this will work for dual evaps though, I'd be willing to try it because I've got a ton of Embraco comps sitting on the shelf.

    • @TheNYgolfer
      @TheNYgolfer ปีที่แล้ว

Older models can be converted because the inverter does not get monitored by the control board the way newer models do.
As for the hardstarts, what burns out the compressors is using the RCO410 when you should be using the RCO810. The 410 has an overload with too high of a locked rotor amperage rating so that burns out the compressors when the compressor short cycles for whatever reason. Short power outage for example. Overload takes too long to cutout and burns the start winding a little everytime it cycles.
Hardstarts are meant for one purpose and that is to start a compressor that won't start without a cap assist. I've had occasions where a compressor will not start with a new oem relay but does start with the hardstart. I only use them for that purpose and I wire in the oem overload because it mounts to the compressor and gives thermal cutout protection and proper locked rotor amperage cutout.

Just take the multimeter and test in the 4 wire plug. Look for 12 volt. Them look for continuity with the plugs that get in on the main board.
And them just take the 12 volt from there.

Get a Pwm to constant voltage output converter and a led driver module. The pwm input on the converter will get the Pwm “signal” wire from the control board. The converter then uses the led driver to activate a solid state relay

You showed 41f for fresh foods and 11f for freezer...way too high...41 and above is danger zone for pathogen (e coli, salmonella, listeria) growth and 0f is required for freezer long term storage. Spoilage bacteria grows above 0f and doubles its growth every 5 degrees above 0f. So at 11f, food in freezer will eventually spoil...it won't hurt you like pathogens but will taste horrible.

But can you do it with a 4 wire condenser fan motor?
    The answer is. No.
Im fighting that battle now. The Pwm signal to the C-fan motor doesnt have enough umph to activate a solid state relay. And the + wire to the C-fan is always +12v... which means no “control” over the compressor.
I wrote up a arduino code to use the pwm signal to activate the relay, but the Fridge motherboard didnt like the power consumption of the arduino...
Round 3 im going to try a Pwm converter and separate power supply to see if that will work.

This happened to us with an LG 8 years old. Problem is the actual refrigerator is set up nice, rollers on trays doors open nice shelves all adjust up and down to whatever height.
Yes was warrantied from LG, finally found guy in Bennington, Vermont who would come over and diagnose. After 2 weeks and bought a new Whirlpool side by side just to get by $2000 with $350 in lost food. LG out in garage for almost a year to prove itself. Then we brought it back in and have been using it ever since. The Whirlpool side by side has issue with electric door from freezer/refrigerator wall that controls temperature in refrigerator side not working temperature fluctuating in the High 40s. Called Whirlpool they can't find repairman to do warranty work. Plus the interior of the Whirlpool sucks, can't adjust shelves, and sliders are friction style.
And when this LG compressor dies there will be another one installed. The technician told me to try and find a refrigerator with the large cooling grate on the back said these were the most efficient and reliable.
One more comment, I hear no one speak of Danfoss compressor? I have read where they are one of the best on market unless they were bought out.
When the technician from Colorado brought out the temperature probe checking temperatures , did anyone else notice how high the temperatures were?
As an aside after that experience losing that much meat I bought what I thought were temperature alarms for RVs. Still using them but they have no alarms.
SensorPush Company is the brand of sensor you want, it attaches to your phone for real time temperature monitoring. But these are expensive. LG in kitchen small freezer in closet and Whirlpool and old top and bottom given to us from neighbors plus large chest style freezer also in garage.
So 8 sensors at $75, control base at $99 so have to sneak up on that purchase.
