    Oh man. A nice hotel room with a shower and a lamb shank dinner! Coming back to the city has its perks. If you wanted to take a little extra time and capture those moments where you finally get that first bed/hot meal in a while... Well, I think everyone following these journeys would love to celebrate those things with you.

    You have 3 under 8 children sat here hung off every word right now as we watch this episode.

      That is awesome to hear they are enjoying the series. I hope they liked the Giant. If any of them are into trucks the second episode in Karijini might interest them, and if they like trying to ride through rivers the next two episode coming should be fun. Oh and if they haven't see it, in the first series in Tasmania we get to see a platypus close up playing in the water.
      thanks for watching and the support.

    "Conduisez à gauche" is in French. (Drive on the left) Some Québécois were deported to West Australia in 1838 and built roads and houses! Seems the English didn't like us revolting and wanting our own country! Most came back eventually but a few fell in love in Australia and built a life there. Wish I could go visit your country. Take care.

      oh I missed the French how could I🤦🏼‍♂️. I spent a lot of time in France and the first things I learnt were à gauche, À droite, tout droit as I was racing on a bicycle and if you are in a group you need to know what's happen or it gets messy. I knew the French were the first to arrive in Esperance in the bottom of Western Australia as the town is named after a French ship the Esperance (hope). There is a fascinating history with the French in Australie.

    Ah, that was a white sponge blob from Mars eating your vegetation. Very fascinating to see. Your landscape is so different from this Canadian. What kind of tools do you carry to deal with flats and how much space do they take? This RE Himalayan is on my radar for my next bike (as long as it has a comfortable seat), but I've never dealt with replacing tubes except for bicycles.

      Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the episode. I carry 3 tyre leaves and an electric pump. I actually change a tyre at the end of this episode: th-cam.com/video/Vm0CcMUSNUo/w-d-xo.html if that helps.
      Changing a tyre on a motorcycle is exactly the same as doing it on a bicycles you just need to get the beed of the tyre in the centre of the rim at the opposite end that you are using the leavers on and you need more force as a motorcycle tyre is not a pliable as a bicycle tyre.

    New air mattress! Good on ya mate! So, was it really self inflating? 🤔 Deb and I were looking forward to this episode, beautiful landscape! Did I miss something? I thought you had just put on a new back tire. I have a little over 4,000 miles on my stock Ceat, and I still have decent tread left.

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the new air mattress is good, a lot stronger material I think, the old one was probably may for laying it on soft grass, not the hard rocks, sticks and branches I end up putting mine on. I could only get another Donlop 605D which is a real off road tyre but handles the HWY ok. They are great in rocky, muddy, conditions where you really need the grip but only last about 6000km. I had only done about 4000km on this on but there was no where north I could get another with out ordering it in and that could take a week or 2 so instead I got the Heidenau which would last 15,000 20,000km so I wouldn't have to deal with the back tyre again. But it has more aggressive tread than the CEAT.

    • @terrycavender
      @terrycavender ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freewayproject I have heard those are good tires for the dirt, and last long, that's what I'll get if I can get it in Mexico. I'm still sorting my Himalayan out. I have a few details like finding a tank bag, I'm running short on storage. I am running the RE panniers, a 30 liter tail bag, and 7 liter side bags, but I'm still short. It never ends does it? 🙄

      I talk about the mirrors in episode 1 of the second series. The width was one important thing as our eye are side by side so a longer width works better with 2 eyes.

    Great. What was the tire? Still on the original but will need a new couple soon. Another question, do you take 2 spare tubes or just the large one and jam it in? They take up a lot of space.

      The new tyre is a Heidenau K60-Scout great for long distance on and off road. not as good as the Dunlop 605D off road like the terrain I road in the flinders rangers. but still great for dirt roads single track etc.
      I have 2 tubes with me one fro the front one for the back and also patch kits to repair the tubes. I lay the on the bottom of my panniers to also help reduce vibration to the gear in the panniers like the lithium batteries.

    Great trip! What headlight are you using? Looks super bright. My Himalayan headlamp is not very bright, from factory.

      Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the series. It's a LED head light, it came with the bike as I got my bike second hand. You can find them on eBay.

    Did you have many mechanical issues I'm looking to emigrate across and I love the Himalayan but don't fancy getting caught out in the outback.

      hey mate, I have done 40,000km on my Himalayan and have had no mechanical issue (this is just my experience), I was told by RE Australia's head Mechanic, make sure the oil is never drops and change the oil every 5000km and I should have no issue, and so far this has been the case.

    Do you bother changing to knobblies when you know you’ll be riding mostly in sand, or is there a general dual purpose tyre you stick with? There’s so much talk on line, so want to ask someone who knows what they’re doing. Thanks for answering our questions btw. Good luck on your next section of your beautiful journey.

      I ride a dunlop 605D when I know it is going to be rock wet, muddy etc.... otherwise a duel sport with a bit deeper and wider grip which is find for HWY and dirt roads, on sand the main this is to let your tyres down, that will provide more grip unless you get a paddle tyre.
      The 605D is fine to ride on the HWY but you will wear it out faster probably around 6000km

    Are you running your Himalayan on stock gearing or have you changed the front sprocket to 16 tooth? We always watch your videos and are amazed at the mileage you cover

    What tyre is best in your experience, rear tyre??

    • @freewayproject
      @freewayproject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are going to be riding terrain like I did in the Flinders Ranges (see the 2 videos in the current series) the something like the Dunlop 605D is great as it gives you a lot of grip through the rocks, mud, dusty trails etc.... But they do not last as long as other maybe only 6000 - 7000km. They are fine riding on HWY
      If you need your type to last longer as you are spending more time on the HWY with a bit of off road riding then something like the Heidenau K60-Scout is good, it will last 15,000 - 20,000km but isn't as good off road in the trails as the Dunlop 605D, but is still good for dirt road single track etc.. when it is not to technical.
      So it depends on the terrain you are riding. But I have use both those tyres and they both are really good at what they are intended for. Hope that helps.
