Desert Raid 2023 - An Adv Rider Rally Thru Outback Australia

  • Desert Raid is a Bi Annual Motorcycle Rally aimed at getting Adv Riders off the couch and explore some places they may not have been before. The locations are always remote, void of infrastructure and must include at least 250 km of unsealed road to get there. In 2023, the location chosen was Jupiter Well on Gary Junction Road in the Gibson Desert region of Western Australia. About 30 Riders made the epic journey…but a lot more failed in their attempt, myself included.
    I guess that’s why they call it Adventure Riding!

    Such a bummer to have that happen, lucky for it to not have been worse or have a rear wheel lock up and throw you. BTW where did you get fuel in Menzies, everything I've seen indicates its diesel only there at Eagle Petroleum so I'll need extra containers on my trip next month that includes Menzies back to SouthernCross via the same dirt road you took out there

      That tyre was a runout from a previous trip. I'll use them for the longevity but I lean toward big block knobbies if the trip is less than 5,000km. I don't care how tyres perform on the blacktop...i only ride the bike on the blacktop to get to the gravel.

    Thanks for the entertainment mate, always a pleasure to see a new Mongrel Dog Production. On a number of your videos now you make a point of camping away from the road and mention that the fire can't be seen from the road. Why is this, is it a security thing?

    • @mongreldogproductions
      @mongreldogproductions  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, sorta. It is quite remote out there and the only traffic after dark are normally 'the locals' transiting from one community to another. All these communities are alcohol free (banned) and if they see a fire they might think that beer is on the menu. Nobody likes surprises in the middle of the night. There is an Australian movie called Wolf Creek. I've never watched it because i reckon if i did, I would never go camping again. Glad you enjoy the Channel content.

    Shame about that torsion bar but knowing you from these video blogs I'm sure you'll resource something. I saw Uluru in 1985 and climbed it back then. So glad I did as these morons who run our country are closing off so many national parks such as Mount Warning National Park in northern NSW.

      Mt Warning closed? That's a crime. I climbed it in the 70's as a school kid. I think they've closed the rock to climbing again now. And I've not climbed it yet!. Still hope too. It's a national treasure and should be open to ALL Australians.

    • @mongreldogproductions
      @mongreldogproductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was life or death, I would’ve taken the chance but….
      The rear wheel was able to move forward and back by about 40mm. I wasn’t sure if it would have caused damage to the universal, shaft or gearbox. We did a bodgy fix to move the bike but only briefly. Finalè out in a few days.
