I had exactly the same, mine was just newer than recall and Land Rover were having non of it. I even went to the DVSA here in the UK to highlight the danger, they too not interested. Zero concern from Land Rover on this one, glad your highlighting.

In Australia a few years ago I had one of Australia's biggest selling cars. The a/c hose leaked out all the gas right on warranty expiry (on time, the car was low klms). The dealer said they had never seen that issue before however the internet was full of discussion on the exact issue. Even a mate who worked at a dealer said it's a common problem. Never trust what the dealer says 😞
Greetings from the UK! I am a Land Rover technician and have done a few of these recalls now. I really think Land Rover need to provide that crack spray to do the recall. It’s worrying what you might not be able to see! I had no idea that the recall wasn’t worldwide so I think that it’s brilliant for sharing this information, I wish you the best of luck with getting a safety recall in Germany.

Excellent video ! I love your brutal honesty and typical German humour, but also treating the lady at LR with respect (as a salesman should). Greetings from South Africa !👍
Brilliant video as per usual. Christian, your next project car should have the JLR 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel engine in it. There are a lot of them around, and by all accounts it will surely provide you with endless video footage for this channel, especially if you get a car where it's mounted transversely, because that appears to be related to all sorts of grief related to emissions reduction systems.
Hi Guys, another great video. As per your last comment, my 2015 discovery is actually a "hybrid", because it is very often connected to a battery charger.
I would love to see you pick up an XJ. I think it's one of the nicest Jags ever produced. Massively underrated. You don't see many of them on the road.
Had MB, BMW etc. XJ V8 3.5 Petrol was the best of the lot. Wish I’d never sold it. Towed a big caravan with it and still got up to 23mpg. My previous MB E320 returned 15th!
Christian, I think we have very similar taste in cars. Thanks for taking the time to show everyone this problem and trying to address it in a country that drives on the right side of the road.
That is definitely a recall. Once you have notified Land Rover all these vehicles need to be stopped and taken off the road. They will have huge liability here if they can’t prove an aftermarket torque problem.
They should be banned from Europe completely since they are building unsafe vehicles, not fit for purpose and essentially operating as a scam business selling a defective product.
Wonderful, Land Rovers always deliver. I'm a desktop mechanic and I thought your idea about crack testing was overrated, until I saw the other side cracked as well, so now I'm having a moment of cognitive dissonance. lol. Best of luck getting something to happen before the end of the universe, but we must live in hope. In the meantime, I know now not to park next to a Queen in case it falls on me, so for that I am grateful. I hope you enjoyed your holiday Christian, always nice to have some time.

This is public service broadcasting. I can't see why the clamp bolt is that long, surely that can't be OEM. Well done Christian & Vera, you might have just saved someone's life. Well done.
The first part of the bolt isn't threaded, probably about 25mm or so. I assume it's for helping to locate the slot and taper on the ball joint before being able to pull the full diameter of the bolt through.
Buy the Jag, it’s good to get challenged from time to time. Re: Metal fatigue. Many years ago, I worked for Hawker Siddley in Hatfield UK. My office window overlooked the water tank they used to test the hulls of the doomed Comet aircraft before they knew about metal fatigue. The windows of the plane were square shaped, the cracks happened in the corners.

Oh wow. Good for you for taking this to the Department of Transport. I must say that doesn't look like a big or strong enough knuckle for a 2.5 tonne 4x4. My fiancée's Prius barely weighs half that and has two M14 pinch bolts torqued to 153Nm holding the knuckle to the strut! I know the geometry of a Macpherson strut results in different loadings, but it's still a useful illustration.
Really excellent and very interesting. I think if this was taken to the dealer there is a possibility that the dealership may change the knuckles with Land Rovers approval and raise an inspection request rather than have an official recall. Your approach was 100% correct. I'm sure now that this video has been on youtube and viewed 100,000s then Range Rover will act, they have too. Always a great show and very informative.

Today I learned two things: 1. When something really is bad Vera says ''Oh my God....Oh my God.'' 2. In Germany, when you have a highly efficient functional vehicle lift, when working on suspension you just raise the vehicle 0.5M so you still have to get down onto your knees. Maybe it saves on electricity?
An absolutely brilliant public safety announcement from LR Time. Will be looking forward to the response from the German transport authority. Well done, Christian & Vera
Aluminum, over time, it will "work harden". Clamping against an air gap, putting the material into a bending overstress situation is bound to cause problems eventually. One reason I'm not a fan of aluminum suspension. They may as well have made the component from hard cheese.
Good find! and letting the lr time community in on it with serious and entertaining episode. will have to ck in on this in US. my l322 is serving well but have been mulling an L405 because I can get a v6 diesel to join in with you in the v6 diesel russian roulette gambit! Get the XJ. If you do I might get one also. I drove one for a week. After driving my favourite road the comment from the wife was that the seats could be more supportive. Honestly I spanked it!🎉
Great video again. I am watching your videos not as a Landrover owner, but I do drive Jaguars. In fact I just bought an XJ with the three liter diesel engine so plenty of similarities. I realize I might be prejudiced but I would love to see you taking on a Jag as a project car. I am sure you’ll have an opinion or two about these cars.
Great video. Shows how things were made wrong as you pointed out Christian. Land Rover need to deal with this. It is the bolt no doubt which is causing the issue. As you said it has no doubt been overtightened. It could have been made differently to save this issue. I as I have said previously do not own a Land Rover product but love the way you both look at the issues and address them. Very entertaining but covering issues which manufacturers do not think about properly when they make them. That was particularly the case with the recent engine rebuild you carried out.
LR UK recalled D4s for a faulty fuel tank grommet, likely to cause a severe fire risk, but the same VINs in Aus, no recall at all! Dealer said no recall in Aus, then no action on my car. How cheap of LR!
Thank you for another wonderful video! I hope the authorities and JLR take this seriously as it's such dangerous problem. My vote is to stick with the Queen if you can get enough content, or an old Defender? I know those old Defenders are so overpriced nowadays though.
Dear Christian and Vera I have no interest in land rovers or anything mechanical but I love your videos so it must be down to you guys..keep it up please.
Great vid Dean. It's got to be about the best rush ever when a bass hits a live mackerel especially if you can watch it happen. The ultimate catch in my opinion.
Dear Christian and Vera, I wonder if anybody from the management of JLR watches your videos? If they do how do they justify this potentially life threatening issue not being the subject of a recall outside of the UK? Thanks for another interesting video.
will definitely make sure to check the queens in my shop the xj is a amazing vehicle normally the supercharger Teflon bush goes and causes a knocking noise simple to check
As an owner of not just a Land Rover but a jaguar XKR with the 5.0l supercharged engine I would love to see you get the XJR and work on it 😊 great video as always 👍
D5's must be getting affordable now. Having been driven around in both a few times I personally prefer the D4, but Christian & Vera getting a D5 would add a bit of variety to the channel. 👍
@@AJB1 I think Christian's train of thought is getting a petrol Discovery to work on! Since he mentioned a supercharger. We are all bored of him fixing the TD6's.
Its a crap design (having the split/clamp) and the 'wrong' material. My Cayenne 955 has similar long travel double McPherson strut suspension but the knuckle is grey cast iron and the top ball joint is a taper/doesn't have a split. The material choice of aluminium will improve ride quality (sprung Vs unsprung weight) and weight saving fuel economy but comes at the cost of potential catastrophic failure!
Christian, don't be too angry with people that drive RHD cars as they aren't the ones that force the vast majority of drivers to remove their primary hand from the steering wheel to change gear 😂
Remember if you drive on the right, you drive on the FRENCH side of the road. The people that brought you snails and frogs legs as a food source and bread in the shape of a schlong!
I agree, that's much worse than fried Mars bars with greasy chips; jelly; Mother's Pride bread and best of all what the french call Soluble coffee (Instant coffee)
Driving on the left hand side of the road is a direct result of being conquered by Napoleon Bonaparte. He was left handed. Being so meant that cavalry were forced to pass the opposition with the sword hand (in this case his left) nearest to his foe. Such was his arrogance, he insisted that all his soldiers used their left hand to fight. Blame the French, but for the correct reason.
I always look forward to your videos. Entertainment and knowledge in every episode. I was looking at buying a Jaguar XF or Landrover last year. After watching lots of videos, and reading posts on social media, I cannot buy anything from Jaguar Landrover. They do not look after their customers, and it seems that the quality of their parts leave a lot to be desired. Can't wait for next weeks episode.
Good day, Christian and Vera. I want to thank you for your competent, informative and humorous videos. I wish you good health, a speedy recovery of your hands and less strain on your back. In Moscow (Russia) there is a private workshop that has developed and repairs aluminum steering knuckles. As far as I know, TH-cam does not allow links in comments. Therefore, I can only give the name: "LR-West". They have a TH-cam channel of the same name. There are several videos on it about repairs. For example: "Cracked knuckle on Range Rover? There is a solution" ("Треснул кулак на Range Rover? Решение есть"). And several more videos about this and other repairs. Of course, I do not know how profitable this solution will be from an economic point of view. I am very sorry about the current situation in the world. I hope Vera (or a translator) can help with the cyrillic alphabet and russian language. Nochmals vielen Dank und alles Gute.
Well done Christian, take it to JLR. The designer of the L405 was Gerry McGovern, blame him. The fault would have been picked up on the R&D testing, so shame on you JLR.
Yes I do, I have worked in RnD departments on prototypes, let’s face it cheap and poorly designed parts have been used and should have picked up on the pre-production vehicles that have in most cases traveled 1 millions miles plus.
As always, engineering explained and demonstrated in the best way possible. As for the Jaaag, maybe it’s time. Fix it up, put the roof tent on it and go grand touring. Or try the tents that start with hotel.
I look forward to seeing more on the queen. I have really enjoyed problem solving some of the issues I have had and look forward to seeing more content from you guys.
The xj is a beauty it just needs some tlc. If it's meant to be the opportunity will not go past you. Great show once again what a serious catch in today's episode many thanks on pointing it out it could save people's life's.

Mine hadn't failed but were changed by LR as a precaution. That's the good news. The bad news was Taunton Land Rover involved 3 visits to get it done. 1) Booked appointment, brought car in, parts aren't in stock. Pick car up. 2) Booked second appointment 6 month later once the parts were in. Leave car for whole day, workshop was too busy, asked to collect car & re book. 3) Booked third appointment 2 months later and finally got it sorted out. Love my Range Rover, thanks to LR time I can DIY and avoid the dealers.
The Jaguar would be a fantastic project car. I did the timing chains, tensioners and guides along with a cooling system refresh and a supercharger rebuild on my 5.0 L322 last year. It's a great engine which makes fantastic power and is great on fuel economy. I absolutely think Christian should go and buy that Jaguar! Can't wait to see content on it!

The right side of the road is the side that everyone else is driving on. Otherwise it hurts!
Love your Wisconsin license plate! @33:05 Lot’s of good wishes from Minnesota, their neighboring state.
We lived in Michigan for almost 10 years👍🙋♀️
❤... your wife is a great help x
Exactly; aluminium should never be used in a safety critical component like suspension.
Totally s as agree. An open clamp in Aluminium is a no go. Christian
All the braking accelerating and turning and suspension actions of the car transfer partially through that piece of stressed stretched aluminium…..
Good find! and letting the lr time community in on it with serious and entertaining episode. will have to ck in on this in US. my l322 is serving well but have been mulling an L405 because I can get a v6 diesel to join in with you in the v6 diesel russian roulette gambit! Thanks again u2 for the great channel, always a bright Sunday with Vera und Christian🤠🤠
Don't forget the biggest island in the world 🇦🇺australia🇦🇺 also right hand drive, loving your vlogs guys 😁

Get the XJ. If you do I might get one also. I drove one for a week. After driving my favourite road the comment from the wife was that the seats could be more supportive. Honestly I spanked it!🎉
Love the content. That's so bad that the recall isn't global. 😊
I love watching you guys. Very informative yet lots of fun. It's wrong that the recall is only for right hand cars. I hope you get it sorted soon
You two are brilliant, thank you for a great start to Sunday :)
I use to make Pinzgauer off road vehicles we always click click about 205nm !! Good job Vera ❤
In Amsterdam we see a lot of cracks but not like this. Schönen Sonntag 🎉
You was thinking what I was thinking 😂.
Were they found by using pink spray?
@@grahameroberts8109in the dark room uhh garage usually by feel
@@grahameroberts8109 talcum powder and a pink flute, or so rumour has it...
I have seen this issue in many cars that have aluminium axles.
Usually caused by over tightening the pinch bolts.
Assuming the importance of your TH-cam channel (and maybe the safety of their customers) Tata motors will send you the recall Monday.
I think I’ll get mail from their lawyer first. Hope this will not harm us or our channel. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian They should give you a new Range Rover for bringing this to their attention. Thanks for the lovely videos.
Dear Christian and Vera I have no interest in land rovers or anything mechanical but I love your videos so it must be down to you guys..keep it up please.
The roads in the UK are terrible and we are constantly banging in and out of potholes.
Great vid Dean. It's got to be about the best rush ever when a bass hits a live mackerel especially if you can watch it happen.
The ultimate catch in my opinion.
Dear Christian and Vera,
I wonder if anybody from the management of JLR watches your videos? If they do how do they justify this potentially life threatening issue not being the subject of a recall outside of the UK?
Thanks for another interesting video.
I know I would loose sleep over such a issue if I would be responsible. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christiangenauso ist es Christian. Total unverantwortlich so was.
will definitely make sure to check the queens in my shop the xj is a amazing vehicle normally the supercharger Teflon bush goes and causes a knocking noise simple to check
Checked mine ...everything was fine, my wife has one crack on drivers side. Not had a recall. Will contact them on Monday.
Wow.
As an owner of not just a Land Rover but a jaguar XKR with the 5.0l supercharged engine I would love to see you get the XJR and work on it 😊 great video as always 👍
I think it would look great next to the Jaaaag😅
👍
Well Well Well..... I am glad that I have the "Problematic" L320 and L319... Glad that you have highlighted the problem.
I also double click. Nothing wrong with doing that. I do hope that LR upgrade their recall for this issue. Thanks for the video.
Double click is the only way to do it, in my opinion. Just feels so wrong to stop after one!!!
Drainage grills are usually not flush with the road. If it's the same in Germany that may be the reason for more failures on the passenger side.
Buy a Discovery 5, or a Defender you'll have a lot of content. Also, they're challenging cars to work on, since they're not home mechanic friendly.
D5's must be getting affordable now. Having been driven around in both a few times I personally prefer the D4, but Christian & Vera getting a D5 would add a bit of variety to the channel. 👍
I just somehow can't get past that rear licence plate positioning on the D5!
@@AJB1 I think Christian's train of thought is getting a petrol Discovery to work on! Since he mentioned a supercharger. We are all bored of him fixing the TD6's.
My neighbour is a Land Rover guy, I'm a Nissan truck guy. Because I enjoy the channel.... Cameron knows a lot more about Land Rover than he used to 😮
Its a crap design (having the split/clamp) and the 'wrong' material.
Yes, the Audi A4 has a similar knuckle but without the weak design. Christian
Love the way you said "Solihull" Christian, I grew up very close to Solihull which means muddy hill in old English :)
Definitely buy the Jag, will have plenty of content potential.
Bound to keep them going for years, but they'll need to change the channel name to "Cat-astrophic Capers.
That’s what I say too. Christian
I understand the l322 has low resale value but i think you will gain a lot of subscribers and views. Keep up the good work. 👍
Christian, don't be too angry with people that drive RHD cars as they aren't the ones that force the vast majority of drivers to remove their primary hand from the steering wheel to change gear 😂
Aah A Scania man 👍 .... So what he says must be right!
Remember if you drive on the right, you drive on the FRENCH side of the road. The people that brought you snails and frogs legs as a food source and bread in the shape of a schlong!
@@terrortorn I live in France 🤣
He said “Fahrt” 😂
LOL 😂 😂😂
@@Vera_and_Christian sorry, very childish I know ❤️🇬🇧 😂
Good day, Christian and Vera.
Don't you understand engineering not same as styling?
@@richardsheil5289and the accountants couldn’t care less about any of it
Yes I do, I have worked in RnD departments on prototypes, let’s face it cheap and poorly designed parts have been used and should have picked up on the pre-production vehicles that have in most cases traveled 1 millions miles plus.
No coffee shop to watch from today, small guest house just south of Stuttgart is just fine though.
You would have thought this would be a worldwide recall
Another excellent presentation thank you both
As always, engineering explained and demonstrated in the best way possible. As for the Jaaag, maybe it’s time. Fix it up, put the roof tent on it and go grand touring. Or try the tents that start with hotel.
😂👍
I've never been so excited to hear about a "death trap"! Thanks for sharing your near death experience with us Christian and Vera :)
I look forward to seeing more on the queen. I have really enjoyed problem solving some of the issues I have had and look forward to seeing more content from you guys.
She was just too reliable until now. 😅👍🙋♀️
You have some of the best content and actual knowledge on LR. thanks for sharring!
😃🙏👌🙋♀️
The xj is a beauty it just needs some tlc. If it's meant to be the opportunity will not go past you. Great show once again what a serious catch in today's episode many thanks on pointing it out it could save people's life's.
I'm so looking forward to your next repair on DISCOVERY 4, Vera and Christian brilliant viewing as usual, don't forget DISCOVERY 4 repair?😊
Hi vera and christian.very educational episode.you go get landrover christian.its obviously a manufacturers problem, needs a recall.especially at that price!!! Looking forward to the outcome.😊😊😊
A very good morning Vera & Christian 😊 Glad your wrist is better 👍🏻 Been waiting for a Queen 👸 video but I never expected this on cracking knuckle joints 🤔 It’s unbelievable that one of the most expensive vehicles on the market that has such a dangerous fault and they just brush it off if there’s nothing wrong 😩 LR need to wake up 😝 Love the humour is this episode as I laughed all the way through it 🤣 Keep safe guys 👍🏻 Bug hug 🤗 for Vera xx
Ours goes to Land Rover next week, we kind of do expect a similar ordeal. 😅👍🙋♀️Vera
Both of you are hilarious, so good. I also love your grasp of the English language
Hi you two crack me up 😅 pure entertainment and info . I have a Queen of my own after seeing this I went out and put it in giraffe mode and checked all good it appears keep up the great videos
👌👍but keep an eye on it. Maybe do a crack test at some point🙋♀️
30:01 Buy it please, the car is fenominal!
I own a LR4 (Discovery 4) with a SCV6 (3.0 SC) engine, which is basically more or less the same engine as the Jaguar has. The 3.0 and the 5.0 engines are popular in the USA and Middle east.
👍👌Check out our videos on the SDV6 3L Discovery 4. We have more than enough of them. 🙋♀️
