It really comforts my soul. In H.S. I played keyboard with a local band. We played the top 20 with several Al Green songs in the mix. Our lead singer was a gifted imitator. Al Green’s song saved my marriage during my postpartum depression and my husband’s cocaine addiction in early 80s while I immigrated from Korea to U.S by marrying an American . His soothing voice and heart wrenching lyrics was the my best medication during the horrible marriage and we are still happily married after 40 years with five children .

Al Green has a natural, amazing voice and he’s one of the best singers ever.

Back in 1979 on 7 July my son was 1 & I married his mum same day, the next day I was 21, my son now 45, his mum gone, I'm 65 today, and still listening to Al, will listen till I die, then have played at my funeral 😊

Enjoying college and hanging out with friends from different races combating in our own way the rampant racism that existed at the time. I also fought on the front lines to relieve our community from a very unjustified systemic unnecessary racist practice. Born in 1952 I lived all the Jim crow practices that were meted out. I loved and enjoyed my white friends and acquaintances and never regretted doing so. But I can't blink out what was the reality. But our country has made it through some very tough times, with African Americans living the brunt and the worst of it. The majority of Americans are really good. But we allow the minority of evil doers (like Trump)rule the narrative. As long as we let em, they will continue instead of hiding. We must make them go back into hiding. Goodness is on the rise. 😊

Right, I’ve been single for a long time and I love listening to Al Green and imagine and feel the love he sings about. I’ll get up and dance by myself. My teenage years were in the 70’s, best ever.
Al Green came out during the Motown era ,but he was the Memphis Tennessee sound.

I haven't heard anyone sing his songs like him never in my 71 years of my existence, to me he is the best of all time. I just remembered one thing back than I will wake up early around 4:30 am and put on at very low volume and lay down and listen to it believe me the whole neighborhood within hearing distance of house tells me thank you for the music.

It may not seem like the obvious choice for someone with my musical taste, but being from the Mississippi River Delta region in Louisiana, there’s no way I could avoid it. His music is timeless. Rev. Al Green has a natural, amazing voice and he’s one of the best singers ever.

your story sounds a lot like mine .. after my dad passed away, I could hardly bring myself to listen to Al Green , without crying my heart out .. but I eventually healed through lots of tears just persevering and listening to his favorite or only artist , at that time I was 15yrs old when he passed away ..now I'm 54 and enjoy listening to Al Green.

I love y'all's comments, just not true. As a musician I lived those days playing on nightclub stages, enjoying the fun. Enjoying college and hanging out with friends from different races combating in our own way the rampant racism that existed at the time. I also fought on the front lines to relieve our community from a very unjustified systemic unnecessary racist practice. Born in 1952 I lived all the Jim crow practices that were meted out. I loved and enjoyed my white friends and acquaintances and never regretted doing so. But I can't blink out what was the reality. But our country has made it through some very tough times, with African Americans living the brunt and the worst of it. The majority of Americans are really good. But we allow the minority of evil doers (like Trump)rule the narrative. As long as we let em, they will continue instead of hiding. We must make them go back into hiding. Goodness is on the rise. 😊
