Thank you, I appreciate it! That's what we try to do on this channel, simple and applicable tutorials, straight to the point that anyone can do immediately after :)
For all the people who don’t have the “equalization” option; use the one named filter curve then click on manage and finally select the option you need. It’s exactly the same. Btw i upload music covers, in case i helped you, give it a shot;)
I'm fairly new to voice over work and am having a heck of a time figuring out the editing aspect of it. I have watched countless "experts" on TH-cam show me how to apply and adjust the Noise Reduction, Compressor, EQ, Limiter, etc. ALL of it pretty much sounded like crap. My actual voice acting is good, but my voice was not being captured properly. I have good mid-range (for now) equipment, sound booth, etc. It all came down to not getting the proper tutorials. This one video hit the mark! You have helped me more than ANY of the others. I can not thank you enough. Bless you
I have to say I am very happy to hear that! I'm more of a video expert, my knowledge in audio editing is not that great, I'm still learning a lot myself. But knowing some very basic things well can make a significant difference in your voiceovers. Best of luck with your voiceover work!
Excellent help, I've just got the gist of how Audacity works, but needed to know how to improve my voice-over, and you explained in a clear and simple way. Many thanks!
BTW , for me Noise reduction will not work after I do the other effect on it .. so what I did is : 1) Compressor . 2)Equalization Bass & Treble . 3) Normalize . 4) Here I do the Noise reduction part and I increased the " Noise Reduction (dB) to 18 " works like charm . thanks again bro !
First of all, not all audio is the same, so the process of editing audio has to be flexible and adapted to each situation. So if you found something that works for you, I'm happy to hear! That being said - I would still strongly suggest that you try and do the noise reduction as the first step, that's when it is the most accurate. Otherwise, you will edit the noise too with compression, equalize, etc. and make it more difficult to remove later. But again, if the final result is good and it works for you, that's all that matters!
Thank you for these tips! Is there a way to set up Audacity to automatically implement these steps as a default, pre recording, so one won't need to do all this in post production each time?
I had the same issue, sounds like you downloaded version 4.3.3, uninstall that and download and install 4.3.2 instead, then you will match most tutorials on TH-cam
It must mean that somewhere on the audio track you have a part that peaks really high, as this shouldn't be happening. Try this: - Normalize (as the last step) - Hard Limit at -4dB (I don't remember exactly, but this could have been an external plugin you have to install - it's free) - Normalize again Let me know if this works!
Excellent ... I already knew how to eliminate audio noise but no other processing ... do you also know how to remove reverberation and echo? .... anyway thanks.
Hello, if someone could help i would really appreciate. So when i followed the tutorial the first time the test voiceover came out very well, but when i followed it again this time, the background noise would get louder after i used the compressor. If it helps im using a TC-777 mic. Thanks in advance
It's hard to diagnose just from that. Maybe you accidentally changed some settings. It's mostly trial and error, but play around with the Remove Noise step a few times until you get it right. You've done it once, you can do it again!
@@VideoPlastyOfficial Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and did the noise reduction step multiple times and it works great. Thanks for the tutorial :)
Well... it’s not magic :( you need to start with a good source file, in a quiet environment, where the background noise is only a subtle “hiss”. You source file also needs to be high quality .WAV uncompressed, rather than a compressed and low quality mp3
What if I’m recording in obs do I have to record these at the same time? Do I have to mute myself in obs and play the voice audio on audacity? I am really confused please help.
I've never used OBS, but I know it's a recording software, which I think people use for gameplay footage. There would be two options: 1) RECOMMENDED - Record both in OBS and Audacity. You need the one in OBS to be able to synchronise it with the audio from Audacity, as you won't hit record at the exact same time. You edit the one in Audacity to make it sound cooler, then mute the original one in OBS. 2) Record just in OBS. Then export WAV from the video you made. Import into Audacity, do the audio editing, save again, then replace the audio on the timeline of your editor with the one that's edited and sounds nicer (delete/mute original audio track). They will match perfectly in length. Not recommended as you might lose some quality due to compression of original video recording in OBS (unless you can save audio as uncompressed). I would go with Option 1, but you are likely not going to notice any difference on either one
I should make a new tutorial. Audacity released a new update and it changed a few things around. There are some solutions in the comments, you can download an older version of Audacity, for example.

Could be multiple factors. Hard to troubleshoot in YT comments. Play around with the background noise removal until you get it right. If you still can't after sampling a very good portion of silence of 3-4s (with BG noise only), then it could very well be the quality of the microphone.

Hi Neil - that's great! I just listened with headphones and the difference is very obvious, v2 sounds much better! Now, of course, there's no perfect "one size fits all" solution, so if you want even more out of it you can keep playing with the effects. For example, you can boost the bass and the treble a bit more by moving the line even higher when applying the effect to see how that sounds Also, a bonus part that you can use is after all previous effects have been applied, you can use a Hard Limiter Effect at like -4dB, then do a Normalize again which should amplify the whole thing as much as possible without peaking and while keeping everything else constant, to bring out more richness out of it. Especially with a Blue Yeti. As for the "prerecording settings" - I don't have anything like that, I just use the Blue Yeti on cardioid mode, open Audacity and do these simple post production steps
