Thank you very much. A small feedback: Would it be better to speak less about others doing it wrong, just jump to the point and also maybe give more info on the reason why you change the curves to the way they are? Like whats the theory? Thank you again! 😊

There may be another more polite way to do it, but if other channels are making more work for people than neccessary, it helps to inform about it.

    Hi, Josh!
For several years I watched all kind of Audacity tutorials, and I reached that „OCD” level where I kinda watched almost everything.
I was so confused because every tutorial has a lot of questionable settings.
I am not an sound engineer, I am just a simple person who wanted to improve my voice recordings.
Boosting everything and Normalize-ing after each/few steps was something I suspect is not correct nor logical.
You managed to explain so much better, you bring solid arguments for every step you recommended, and the simple fact you're a sound engineer make me thrust your recommendations.
Usually I avoid writing comments because it is a waste of time (usually no one reads them nor replies) but I wanted to thank you for sharing these precious information with us, and also for taking time to make this tutorial.
Thank you! I subscribed and I am binge watching your whole channel.

Subtle, yet positive changes, when your settings are applied to an audiobook recording. I'm *OLD* sir. Broke into radio using Ampex reel-to-reel tapes, grease pencils, editing tape and razor blades that you could never find (because). Digital recording and editing destroyed ten years worth of knowledge and know-how. Plus, I stepped away for a 20-year cup of coffee elsewhere. I just want to say that you really helped. I noticed a difference immediately. I probably need more classroom instruction. Thank you again.

great tutorials, quick question. is there any possible way i could fix my microphones buzzing sounds? is there any settings on audacity for that or any free plug ins i could install for it? my mic is pretty cheap but im hoping for a fix. thank you

Maybe. Is it buzzing during your speech or in between? We can get you a solid mic without the crazy buzz for like $40. Blue snowball is cheap and good for the price💪

Quite an improvement from the first to the second track.
Actually, in the interest of accuracy and understanding for those watching this, you DID boost levels (when you Normalized), and iIt would appear from looking at the files, it would appear the second file (with your 'Male EQ') was boosted more than the first. (I think if you checked RMS levels of both files, the second one is louder). Also it is good to understand that within reason human ears tend to subjectively think louder sounds "better", all things being equal. Of course this was made possible by first reducing levels on unneeded frequencies and the silly Smile EQ, so the point was well made.

Sung all my life. Never sat behind the engineering board.
Now I'm trying my hand at audio recordings of books.

great vid. I am using audacity as a way to use my headset microphone in my classroom as a teacher and I have a headset mic and I want my voice to go through the computer and will be heard over the computer speakers. It works but am I able to EQ my mic as I am monitoring? thanks!

You know how I know he's correct about this stuff and that he's an engineer? He's pragmatic. No B.S. Straight to the point, and knows his stuff.
I know this, because I am also an engineer. Not a sound engineer, but a computer/electrical engineer. But engineers think alike. And Josh? He gets it.
