I'm a 3rd year undergrad and I second your recommendation of "Understanding Deep Learning". I had an okay understanding of everything, and have even done some research, but diving into this book has been priceless so far.
Hey Boris, thank you so much for this and all your other great videos, they've been really helpful for me so far! ❤ Are you planning on doing a video on the paper implementation part, e.g. your tips on how to start, your own experiences etc?:)
Great overview! I love the point about projects, honestly , as someone who has been in the industry for 14 years I would go as far as saying that all best ML Engineers started with a personal project. When things get hard, you need the motivation of whatever attracted you to ML in the first place. For me it was photo organization (this is before Google Photos was available). Fingers on the keyboard is the best way to learn. Also, I'd say in 2025 PyTorch matters a lot more than Jax or Tensorflow
There is no single best resource for anything. I always say, if it works for you, then keep going, if not, then try something else. Everyone is different. Just don't give up, because only then you have a guarantee of not succeeding :) Keep it up! ❤️
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years Boris. This video is amazing. I am an embedded software engineer and I have decided to make a switch to ai. The "How Machines Learn" is a really amazing recommendation for us beginners. Thank you so much for this video!!
Thank you for the great video. It would be great to get more on reimplementing papers or give us a few papers to work through (hopefully from beginner to advanced levels).
I liked your video, most machine learning roadmaps or guides to learn Machine learning are really overwhelming for me but yours madw me feel like i can do it
My school organises optional Machine Learning and artificail Intelligence classes yearly but I'm just starting school so it all looked too bulky and hard for me I had to leave it cos I was not understanding anything. Thanks to you I'm going to take my time and learn ahead so by next time I will be very prepared and maybe even be ahead of them. Thank you very much :)
I think I am good at math ( integrals, derivatives, medium probability and metrices) have studied python basics. Can't wait to start on this journey in a few months. Will be religiously following you from now on.

I'm scared that I'm not gonna be good enough at maths for understanding all this, last time I tried to learn, in 2020/2021, I got discouraged while learning tensorflow. I'm trying again, hoping this time I can make it. Math's scary af and I've always been pretty bad at it. Got the 2 books, fingers crossed 😂
Thanks again for these golden tips and roadmaps Boris ! One question I would ask is how can you keep up with this to land your first ML job ? Should you emphasize on having a degree or doesn't it matter at all in the future job market ?
The best way to learn AI is to start in 1987, write your own algorithms in "C", because that was the only way. Read lots of books (there was no internet) and get on to IEEE paper journals (tons of them). 10 years later you might be able to buy groceries. 10 years after that have a team of people. To be ahead of everyone else, you really have to be DEDICATED to the art and work DAMN HARD (and smart... try to be smarter than your algorithms lol)

Understanding Deep Learning or Bishops Deep Learning Fund!mentals the new 2024 version?I usually don't like Bishops rigorousness, have you read it boris?
depends on the role, but what might be relevant is implementing efficient training, serving/ inference, efficient data processing, and efficient evaluation pipelines. There are many different techniques for implementing such things, and which ones to use differs based on the requirements. You would also want to be able to quickly implement new ideas into an existing code base and ideally keep it readable, modular, and extendable. All these things are just „simple“ best practices for proper software developmental you learn those by writing a lot of code yourself and learning from code written by others. I hope this somewhat helps :)
It is really impossible to say, because it depends on how quickly you learn, how much pure study time you can invest in a day, and to what you define as "having learned ML". It can take anywhere between 6 months and 2 years. Or even more. Sorry for the probably unsatisfying answer :(
I guess my guy here did now also arrive at the point where he just uploads slight variations of the same video over and over again for the sake of maximizing views. It's a pity given that Boris seems genuinely enthusiastic about the field and that it offers so many interesting topics worthy of a video
That is very true, and I am looking forward to creating as many videos covering these different topics as possible 😊 Nevertheless, I plan to create this video every year to provide slight updates on resources and topics to learn, so, naturally, there will still be a fairly large overlap with previous versions. I am super grateful that you seem to watch so many of my videos that you recognize the repetition of certain arguments and points. However, there are a far greater number of people who don't watch my other videos, so this repetition will still be quite novel to the very most people. I try to help as many beginners as possible get into AI and actually learn it properly with the limited time I have, so I hope you can understand my arguments :) Yet again, your point is very valid, and I am aware of it. Thank you 😊❤️
@borismeinardus Please continue doing this. Many of us start but fall off the wagon due to other commitments or shifting priorities in life. An updated roadmap like this encourages us to hop back on seamlessly. Thank you for what you do, and keep at it! 🙌
I'm gonna defend Boris here mate. If you know how TH-cam works, you will know why repetition is needed sometimes. I wish it wasn't like that either but that's the algorithm you're up against. Besides, there's only a few different ways you can learn something. @BorisMeinardus Keep it going!
amazing simple content . i have a question do we need high end laptops to work in ML , deep learning , i have mac book m3 16-256 model is this machine enough to learn AIML , deep learning hope you will response soon !
if someone spent 6-7 hours a day working on these and building projects do you believe they could get an entry level job in ml or data analyst job within 4 months without degree?
Yes! If you put in enough time and effort to learn the relevant skills and show projects that demonstrate the relevant skills, you can :) It will take time though!
I would say that's not a compete answer. Be realistic, 2 people going for same job interview. You and another person. The other person is exactly the same as you but with computer science degree. Who do you think will get the job? Now realise that it's not only 1 other person, it's hundreds of other candidates, all with computer science majors. You don't have to do any fancy integrals or differential maths here. The probability of you getting that job is almost 0%. Good luck but stay realistic. The time we have here in this life is finite.
