  • "Training Day" is a 2001 American crime thriller film directed by "Antoine Fuqua" & starring "Denzel Washington & Ethan Hawke".
The film earned mostly positive critical appraisal. Washington's performance as a corrupt cop, Detective Alonzo Harris, a departure from his usual roles, was particularly praised and earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor at the 74th Academy Awards. His co-star Ethan Hawke was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as rookie cop, Officer Jake Hoyt.

Or, did Alonso actually have some level of control over that? Keep in mind he set everything up that day; is it really a stretch to think he might have paid those two crackheads to accost Smiley‘s cousin in that alleyway in hopes that Smiley and his homies would kill Jake? If so he obviously made a mistake (as everyone eventually does) in that he didn’t count on the gang letting Jake go out of gratitude for saving her.

One of the most iconic scenes in the movie. Watched this on my birthday April 19, 2022 and meant to comment on this sooner, but every year on my birthday on April 19 my twin brother always buys a movie for us to watch together on our birthday and all I have to say is you can never get disappointed or go wrong with a Denzel Washington film. This is probably 3 years in a row where we've watched a Denzel Washington Film and by far one of the greatest actors of all time as well. Such an underrated film like many say that covers such a well written story with such an iconic cast of characters, track and a cast that if not known is now known with many special appearances and examples like Snoop Dogg, Terry Crews, Dr Dre, Eva Mendes and many more and of course Ethan Hawke where if he wasn't already known to many, became known to many. By far one of the best movies I have ever watched on my birthday, just like every year where my twin brother never fails to amaze me with his movie picks. This is by far definitely a movie where if you haven't watched it yet - should watch and definitely a must watch. Not going to spoil it for anyone, or give any hints to what happens in the movie but it is much similar to what many people have said so far with many more reviews yet to come in the future, however it is very much underrated even if it has mixed reviews. A very intense movie filled with scenes where you can't help but be interested in where its almost as if that you yourself are apart of the movie, where you also can't help yourself but be in the moment and also be in a rollercoaster of emotions of what happens next or is yet to come alongside the fact of getting up from wherever you're watching it on to be in the moment. There's honestly so much to say about this film and of course the cast especially with Denzel but I'm just going to keep this short and simple and let you be the judge of it. - April 19, 2022. 🥳🎉🎂 🎈🎁 💙🌍♾️

I remember that some people got pissed at Cliff Curtis some time ago for race bending and/or cultural appropriation etc. in this scene, but to those people I want to remind them that race bending and cultural appropriation is only an issue when it reinforces offensively misleading stereotypes, which is not what Cliff Curtis is doing with this performance.
In the director's commentary track for this movie, Antoine Fuqua said that before shooting this scene Cliff Curtis spent his free time consulting with Latino gangs in Southern California making deliberate efforts to ensure that his portrayal of a Sureño gang member would not only be accurate, but also not insulting, which was more than Cliff Curtis was obligated to do at the time.
So before someone else decides to preach about how Cliff Curtis was being offensive with this performance, just remember that in 2001 the people he was representing basically had no complaints with this performance, so unless those gangs have problems with the performance now (and to my knowledge they haven't even spoken out about it, probably because they don't care about such small issues), this is one of the least problematic performances of all time, and it would be much more productive to get bothered about something else.

    This scene is a Masterpiece!
With all the corruption, greed and backstabbing the higher ups in the restaurant, Alonzo and his soldiers made…..it eventually led to all their downfall.
Hoyt being an honest cop and doing the right thing in saving the girls life led to it saving his own and most likely becoming the Hero that took down the corrupt in the end.

Well, you see, movies are rarely (if ever) filmed in sequence. The scene with the three guys in the frame could’ve been filmed on a Tuesday while Ethan Hawk in the bathtub on a Friday. By the time it got to post-production, the editors probably noticed it but said fuck it because they couldn’t afford reshoots. Or they didn’t count on someone incredibly observant, like yourself, to notice it. Had they had the foresight to see that happening, I’m sure it would’ve been corrected.

Would be interesting if it was somewhat a reversal. Smiley was actually not doing anything illegal but did have warrants out for his arrest. Wrong place/wrong time kinda deal. Hoyt could legally f*ck him. But decides to let Smiley go, with a reminder of that line.

I doubt he would do that. I think he knows enough about that world. Neither of them will forget what they did for each other. In a cut scene at the end of the movie Jake was walking away from Smily and Smily said to Jake "Remember me"
