      @@BlestinTexas24 it's children playing. Many synagogues are run out of homes, like Chabad houses the community rents or a chavura (think of it like a Jewish home church) so the children play and do their lessons in another room not far from where the adults learn. It's considered a blessing to have children among the community so before a certain age children are handled with a soft hand when not doing lessons. In my synagogue it's not rare for the Rabbi's kids to come up to the front asking to help lead the prayer songs or bring toys in to play with at his feet while he reads Torah. As long as they're not interrupting services, it's all good. It gets them used to the mindset that the Jewish community space is theirs for when they get older, rather than a place they have to be allowed into.

    Powerful insight of the book of Job. Just had to listen to it again. Thank you Rabbi. My Dad had to undergo a brain surgery last week, I was so confused and did not know what to do. I turned to prayer and suddenly an idea poped up that I read the Book of job . The surgery was to be done the next day, So I started reading the book right away with breaks in between. The next day (day of the operation) I continued with prayer and reading the book of Job. Just as I finished reading the last chapter of the book, and said my prayer, I received a call from my brother that my Dad was back in the ward and the surgery was successful. My Dad is now at home recovering. I praise and thank God for being there and comforting us. I believe we go through bad situations in order for something better to come out of it.

    This was so well done and it had an impact on me for the good. When you talked about our freedom to respond to the bad things that happen to us, it took me back about 25 years. My son and his wife and 2 month old son had a terrible accident when they slid on ice into an oncoming semi truck. His precious wife lost her life, he had many severe injuries and the baby a bad concussion. In the hospital in the midst of his grief he started to become angry and bitter. He suddenly stopped himself and said,”No, I am not going to do this. I’m not going to be angry at God! “ From that moment on he worked on being a spiritual man and never mean or bitter. He is still a very good man. He remarried and had a whole bunch of kids. Kind of like Job.

    Led me to read the scripture. GOD gives and GOD takes away. But trust not in our own understandings. We go through trials and tribulations. But never give up. GOD has something better in store for us.

    Rabbi Breitowitz gives a wonderful, in-depth and heartfelt explanation on the complex questions presented in the book of Job. A book that, at almost 4000 years of age, is as relevant today as it was when it was written. I have also wrestled with the meaning of this text in my struggles and sufferings in life. I think the essential idea is always missed... God doesn’t give an answer to Job because it would rob every other human being of the same satisfaction. Everyone wants to no why they are suffering at the moment of suffering. But what Job never knows, is what the author of the book wants us to know: That when you are going through the sometimes horrible pain and seemingly senseless suffering that so many of us endure in life, at that exact moment... you are God’s Champion!

    I have suffered a lot in life and so I have wondered about the Book of Job. (I am a Christian.) This was so very helpful to me and I appreciate the Rabbi’s insight into this perplexing topic of suffering. I remember reading about the Holocaust when I was a teenager and although I had been to Sunday School sporadically, I couldn’t fathom a God who allowed such severe and prolonged suffering of good people. I was an agnostic for many years until I couldn’t take any more suffering in my life and started reading the Bible. Thanks so much for your video! ❤️🇨🇦

    Im a Christian but I love this Rabbis teachings. Throughout my short life ive noticed western Christianity preaches too much about the new testament and searching for happiness with very short lived motivational speeches. One of my great findings in life is ive learned to love the old testament more than the New, just my opinion. I have great respect, appreciation, admiration and understanding for suffering and learning to endure hardships in life. I find suffering a necessity in life, theres something about being in that dark place hurting in immense pain with complete confusion feeling of lost and misery, but in that moment you figure it out and learn to adapt and find comfort in the pain during those dark moments. I understand for those who do not recognize this path or havent found it yet...It sounds borderline psychotic but when you wrestle with suffering and find that place or thing you pour your heart out to God while being drenched in sorrow, theres nothing like it. I found it extremely rewarding not for personal gains but to evolve as a human. You find more understanding and wisdom of life every time you endure suffering with God and end up finding enjoyment in the opportunity every time. You will never again run that never ending race of chasing happiness as those moments will be enjoyed but very short lived. The balance is more than a necessity and that is what the Old testament has taught me.

      The book of Job, The test of Job, but was it really Job on test?
      all the teachings i have heard teach it is the test of Job, but that does not make sence under inspection.
      God had already judged Job, God alread knew Job, God had said;
      Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
      "perfect and upright" !!! does God say that lightly? does God speak and then 2nd guess himself, did God call Job perfect and then need to further test him? NO, God new Job and said he was perfect, and indeed Job was !
      the test was on satan? like after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, God asked where they are, here God asked satan where he has been / come from, this shows satan is fallen and disconnected from God.... then God asks satan an open question.
      Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
      that is an open question, God is testing satan to get satans answer... satan could of given any answer, satan could of said "yeah i see him, he is a good guy", but that is not how satan answered, satan said;
      Job 1:9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
      10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
      11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
      So God has satan's answer now!!! God himself knows satan is a liar, but how should God handle the matter? should God rebuke satan or could he use this to prove satan is a liar?
      the book of Job was God playing chess with satan and Job was the pawn in the game.... God made satan look like a liar, then told Job not to question his ways, but then made Job have a good future.
      Satan failed the test, satan was not forced to do what he did, he did what he did to try and prove his own lie but instead he was proved a liar.
      i really want people to realise this is the test of satan, who knows what would of happened if satan made tea cakes with Job, maybe God would of taken that as a repentence from satan and things would of changed.
      i think believers should rebuke satan telling him to repent, i genuinly believe satan could repent and work righteousness on the earth if he wanted, and i believe he would be accepted... judgement is getting closer and the texts kind of tell us satan wont repent, but i think there is a code in the programming that allows for satan to repent.
      anyway, i hope you like that insight, i would be very supprised if you have heard it before because ive not heard anyone else teach it as the test of satan.

    If you get to see this comment, Rabbi, thanks a lot for this lecture on the Book of Job. As an RC, remember reading the book in school but that was a long time ago and much H2O has gone under the bridge. For the first time, really understand the meaning of the story and your mentioning that it might have been written by Moses was really interesting. Read VF's book and that was very interesting. Actually, now I'm an atheist and a humanist but also a scholar and a historian and hearing lectures and learning will never leave me until I die. Thanks again. P.S. For what it's worth, my father was a tanker in WWII and broke into a concentration camp. He was affected by what he saw and became enraged by deniers. He was a member of the Greatest Generation.
