Hey matt loved the vid but a correction for the HDMI part, the spec is on the device itself, not the cable. So when it says hdmi 2.1 you don't need a hdmi 2.1 cable you need to see if the device and the display support hdmi 2.1 . The only thing you need to look for is "high speed" spec on the HDMI cable that differentiates it from quality and cheap.
I use Dex allll the time and it is 100% fantastic when doing typing or using GeForce NOW or Stadia game streaming. Handles both perfectly. Note 20 Ultra.
if youre using all the time then you probably know but just in case: you have to use an app called dex max or desktop hub... those will fullscreen every app. also use 2.4g keyboard or if you can usb wired mouse. thats best way to go. and 60fps cable. and if you want you can even use stadia or shadow cloud pc. with 5g wifi it should work really good and you can play pc games on max settings on 1080p on 60 fps. I use dex when I am visiting my parents. they have 5g wifi and I my old monitor is there. it works fine and I can play games :D
Wireless Dex is the best of everything. I don't play games, so I never have any lag. It's perfect for my needs and the wireless option is as clean as it gets. Plus, I can plug in my phone while I'm using it as my PC. I have an S9+ and ever since receiving the One UI 2.5 update, I've been having a blast.
Samsung DeX is pretty much like using a beefed up chromebook (that can also do some phone stuff like call); and thats okay because i'm sure alot of people prefer that but I find the experience to be alot better when you're using DeX inside of windows 10. That way you can have the best of both worlds.
Install the Brave browser and watch your connection speed soar. Have 50+ tabs up and it doesn't even blink. -Have to grab and go with your phone? No problemo! You don't even need to power down or reboot. Take your phone and then come back, plug it in to your monitor and you are up and running. No waiting to boot up.
I use an Asus Miracast dongle for general productivity on my Note 10. The latency is surprisingly low and you can use it on a tv, chill in an armchair and either use the phone itself as a mouse and keyboard or use an OTG adapter and plug in a mouse and keyboard or a controller for game emulation. Of course if you're playing a supported online game where latency has to be at a minimum then a USB-C hub with HDMI out is best. It probably won't replace my pc at home, but it's great if you're away and need to pack light.

Hey Matt. This is supratim from India. Dex supports upto 1440p as per my knowledge. I am a big Dex fan right from day 1.
1:33 DeX supports up to 1440p output, not just 1080p. =)
I personally use DeX for my old Note 9, and it's outputting to 1440p. A quick Google search also confirms DeX outputs to 1440p.
It support 4K UHD also
Does it also support more than 60hz on external Monitors?
Why are there people still saying 1080p max like this video, was it they never done their job properly or has something to do with Dex or the cable?
I really hope they keep polishing dex for years to come. I really like the idea of it!
They should make a dock to put your phone into on your desk and once it’s put into said dock dex immediately works on your computer screen. The dock should have LAN, 2-3 usb, usb c, hdmi at a minimum while being as compact as possible! I honestly think that’s the future for home computers. At least mainstream and basic tasks
@@mattdagger1480 ummm those usb c hubs already exist, lan, hdmi and usb ports all in one. There's an option to tur dex on automatically when the device detects a keyboard/mouse.
@@mattdagger1480 You're fairly late. Since the first S8/Note8's. they have, You can still get them. But a little rare now. But it's called Dex Station/Dex Pad. Station has USB C in charging, HDMI out, 10/100Lan, and 2 usb A 2.0's. Pad has similar besides missing the lan port. Both have fans to blow off the phone to keep cool. It also opens their limited 5app on display, to allow 10-20 up on the screen at a time on Dex mode. While if you use 3rd party adapters, or wireless mode, or PC mode. You are limited to 5apps up on the display at a time, Older apps will get minimized if you get 6+. Though you can run 2-3 more apps on the phone itself at same time as dex.
I just set mine up and its great! I can even see my calls come through the screen!
Even the Tab s6 lite can use Dex and for general productivity it works very well. I pretty much run my life from my S6 lite and regret nothing
Dex and S-Pen are my engagement and marriage rings to Samsung.
ive been using dex for a long time and ive always loved it its by far the best feature of any phone ever made to me at least
I really aprove the idea, i always use dex connected to my pc and its so cool
Man U are the best I like ur content and u deserve more subs .
Thanks man! I appreciate that
So basically you don't need to buy the dex station, just the cable, great video man, greetings from Mexico!
THanks Sergio!
that tiktok dance Matthew, that's an instant like from me 😂👌
Hey matt loved the vid but a correction for the HDMI part, the spec is on the device itself, not the cable. So when it says hdmi 2.1 you don't need a hdmi 2.1 cable you need to see if the device and the display support hdmi 2.1 . The only thing you need to look for is "high speed" spec on the HDMI cable that differentiates it from quality and cheap.
Nice review! You can edit videos in DEX. I use Kinemaster and VLLO and it works quite well.
I use Power Director. Also works well in DeX.
Is it have some trouble when playing semi competitive game such as DotA 2 on Dex via GeForce Now?
I guess hes got everybody beat with the minimal desk set up!
Wait you got it wrong Matt, you can get 4k on dex IF you use a Samsung branded hdmi to USB c adapter, or if you use the dex station
Ahh didn't know that! Thanks for the tip
Having a samsung S10E and Tablet S7+ and just heared today about Dex.... thanks for your video.
"Yeah the mouse is for right handed people but I'm left handed".
Aaaaannnd I'm subscribed. Left is best, bro.
haha thanks man! Welcome to the channel
that was a really good professional like setup. good stuff guy. good info too
Nice to see DeX getting focus, would love a more in-depth video! Also more on wireless DeX, what refresh rate it supports. etc.
60 hz max
Wireless Dex is the best of everything. I don't play games, so I never have any lag. It's perfect for my needs and the wireless option is as clean as it gets. Plus, I can plug in my phone while I'm using it as my PC. I have an S9+ and ever since receiving the One UI 2.5 update, I've been having a blast.
DeX is awesome - one of my main reasons for choosing a Galaxy phone!
Great content as always Sir
Thanks Usman!
Get you an powered hub version only. You get better screen resolution and it unlocks more power for multiple apps running or games.
Great vid. Dex is so underused it's criminal
Thanks! I agree its pretty neat
Great video.I am actually using samsung dex right after I watched this video.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is a Halo phone, pun intended.
Samsung DeX is pretty much like using a beefed up chromebook (that can also do some phone stuff like call); and thats okay because i'm sure alot of people prefer that but I find the experience to be alot better when you're using DeX inside of windows 10. That way you can have the best of both worlds.
I am gonna try this with my new Tab A7 Lite I got for Christmas, even if it doesn't work, thank you for the video :)
I’m super impressed with samsung dex.
Neat. Dex for Windows works pretty good too.
I like how he became one of The Lopez brothers for a few seconds in 5:01. LOL
Very nice I might get a s22 ultra this holiday season. :)
Is this worth the switch? as an apple user I like this feature a lot
that refresh thing in gamepass is just because of slower internet speed and happens on pcs aswell with cloud gaming
Great video. Best one I found on the topic.
That's an awesome Dex setup! I'm more of a Chromebook person, but those iVanky cables/dock look perfect for Chromebook use.
Ya they work with everything. Great quality!
You can also use up ton4 1 terabyte SSD drive.
im ten years Apple will finally have a usable desktop function for the iPad, and they will present is a 'revolutionary' new idea that changes everything.
Samsung Dex has been an long evolution in the making. It's basically just a continuation of Remix OS and the Android x86 project... Except rather than being a portable live operating system that you boot from USB memory to any computer, it is embedded into the phone instead as the memory device.
@@TwistyTrav yes. and?
@@mrplease66 I was just trying to imply that Apple is actually closer to 20 years behind, instead 10. Sorry, I didn't make that as clear.
@@TwistyTrav ok, i get your point. I don't actually think that Apple doesn't have the tech or the know-how. They just intentionally keep their products crappy so as to be able to proclaim some great advancement down the line. It's a matter of arseholery and not of incompetence.
@@mrplease66 We are definitely agreed on the
Your setup looks amazing
Good looking on the 1080p! I use the left handed version of that mouse (best feel and use). Goodbye carpal tunnel. DeX on the go is great too...cast to any compatible screen, carry a mouse! Or Nexdock is sooooo awesome--everything all in one except the cable
Use an 8BitDo Pro 2 Controller. Use wired peripherals with your dock for low latency.
Does it have a split second delay through HDMI ? Casting wirelessly does ,so I was just wondering ,been thinking about getting this as a productivity laptop and emulation machine .
I can edit and use CAD programs...I'm running Catia on my Ultra...
Yes this is great for people who have experience for desktop environments but don't have them. It's outclassed by a Chromebook but you already have the phone. And everything you would be purchasing has multiple uses.
Actually you can edit videos even 4k 60fps, and its flawless, beats the point of having an actual pc set up because you can also just stream games on xbox game pass, you also have your Microsoft office apps for that productivity, so basically you dont need a pc or a console just a phone, a monitor and a few other accessories
I always wanted to try this setup except with a portable, external monitor. Would be a great laptop replacement in the office.
Ya try it but dont crazy and buy stuff. Try with the stuff you currently have lying around! Its a lot of fun
@@MatthewMoniz Not that much around but will do. I only need the portable aspect of it. The rest will remain a laptop base setup.
Watching this on DEx mode, while working on word, emails, gmail, whatsapp and excell open!! Samsung DEx is massively underated!!! been using
the DExtop since 2020!!
I've been in To couple of years ago and think about in one of the greatest city I've seen...I'm Brazil-amazon.Congrats for this video
DeX is my computer for almost two years now. For work (regular office) and personal use. I love it, specially the convergence of one device for all.
PS: if you use the Samsung hubs (Dexpad or Dexstation) you'll be able to use 2k resolution. It's so much better. I use it in a 65" TV.
Motorola launched a similar desktop mode recently for the Android 11 on the Edge+. Looks like a true competition. Would be amazing a video about it too.
Android 10 has desktop mode built in it. Most tablets can u lock it under developer options.
Huawei also had a desktop mode on their phones since like 2017
@@allthenamesaretaken2 Dex is older firstly. 2nd. Android 10 desktop mode is experimental, It's not really usable for general usage like Dex/Ready For/Screen+ (LG)/ Huawei Easy projection.
Microsoft also had a thing to called Continuum since 2015/2016. But they just tossed it last year of 2020. So most windows phones have no updates anymore.
WOW! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!! Now it really makes me think of switching into Samsung from Apple. I have been contemplating about getting apple m1 before this.
I have Honor V20. About 2 years old phone. Monitor with an integrated hub. What can I do is connect the phone to the screen with USB C directly and everything just works.
That's so cool. I'm just trying a Motorola g100 and I got a pretty nice experience with a usb-c cable 3440*1440 resolution. Thanks for a great video.
It’s not obvious because I do edit videos on Samsung Dex on the S10+. I have a hunch that you never tried.
It’s an awful experience and yes I’ve tried.
Thank you for your all the informations you gave as.
With your s21 ultra , did you have any high temperature issues?
(I am thinking to get S22 ultra)
Wow I love this set up! Looks fresh!
You can remotely display the Dex program through your Xbox one, using the wireless display app. Or if you have a the Microsoft wireless display b5, you can display your phone in Dex mode through that. The only thing extra you need is wireless keyboard and mouse. It is truly a great program.
I use Dex all the time. So worth it.
