Pastor Barry, I'd like to know why John the baptist said according to John 1:31 "the reason" I came baptizing with water... I mean, we know the true birth in Christ is not guaranteed in the ritual of baptism, could have happened before (my case) or later (hopefully). I know people baptized in water as so called christians (adults) but I'd say their fruits may indicate otherwise. So why such ritual was "the reason", for the jewish people so accostumed to rituals something visual and/physical was needed? Or which other symbolism the water baptism has? I know Jesus is the water of life, but in my personal experience I was born again before having the chance to be baptized in a a congregation, so I'd like to get some additional insight on this verse, thanks!
